I think it's far more likely it was Stern or one of the people who Kaneda screwed over. Remember, multiple people have said Kaneda tried to get them fired in a similar manner. That just sounds like Karma, people using his own tactics against him.

I think it may be because a bunch of people jumped to the wrong conclusion and think it's because of something he said. It's much more likely it's because of something he did.
