Being a mistake prone human is one thing. Being an absolute lightning rod that gets your ass banhammered from every single community that you ever approach? Eh. Might be a real asshole of a common denominator problem.

    Quoted from greenhornet:

how can we profess to know something to be unequivocally 'wrong', when humans are imperfect and capable of mistakes ? just because we are in the here in now doesnt mean what we doing today is right. isnt it possible that how we deal with matters today are the real mistakes and that the 80s were just hunky-dory ? who is to say that mankind wont be looking back at 2020 as a pivotal point in the degradation of society and that unchecked political correctness/cancel culture was one of the biggest human mistakes of all time.

Well, if your argument here is that deciding to be not racist (sexist, fill in your blank here, etc.) and not actively promote things that are might be looked back on in 20 years as a "mistake", I'm honestly not sure I can help you see how wild of a take that is.

I think this thread goes to show that literally nothing goes "unchecked" in 2020 - just take a look at the downvotes I got from suggesting that admitting just because something was "fine" in the past, it's ok to know better today that maybe it was not fine and contributing to the problems we're now facing. The Fox News boomer crowd is convinced that yelling "cancel culture" helps to validate their racism (or use your fill in the blank from above here) and pretend like it's everyone else that's wrong for being "offended". The only people that would see "cancel culture" as a mistake are people who view it like this (well, and people who use the phrase "cancel culture" earnestly and think it's an actual insult and not some cringy Fox News old guy sound bite). Calling it "holding people accountable" and see if it helps?

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Yeah Kathy Griffin didn’t work for 3 years because she needed a vacation and Colin K hasn’t thrown a pass in 4 seasons cause he felt like needed a break lol.
Nothing worse than people who think their shit don’t stink and these people who try to assign a political "side" to “cancel culture” are among the worst.

You dont think Colin K's asking price was little to high for a back up QB? I thought it was reported he wanted 10 mil a season which would put him as the highest paid backup. Maybe that had something to do with it?

    #954 3 years ago
    Quoted from vdojaq:

... I do not agree with some of his purchasing habits either. ...

He buys what he thinks will impress others - limited runs, hard to find, Super Special Editions
Why else would anyone buy a Magic Girl

Colin had a 5th year he rejected. Griffin isn't funny, but by all means, go on!

I believe the term cancel culture is somewhat accurate. I would like to know what racism you believe I am validating? I am perfectly able to think for myself, make decisions for myself, and decide what is racist or not for myself without someone telling me I must blindly follow the leftist trail you are blazing. Toppling statues, cancelling shows, removing pancake syrup and 86'ing Uncle Ben are going to put us in the right direct too? Laughable at best. You cannot demand respect because of one's color, it has never worked and never will. You are respected when you are part of a positive society. Right now, society is in the garbage.

I thought his name was supposed to be "he whose name shall not be mentioned" on this site.

It looks like we have a lot of members with short memories or new people since then.

    #966 3 years ago
    Quoted from grantopia:

No one has "forgotten about it", they just choose to acknowledge it and own it and try and be aware of it and correct it going forward. The people that say things like "well this was totally cool in the 60s but wouldn't fly today!" or just scream "cancel culture" whenever something racist is called out are just either hiding their head in the sand or still agree with antiquated viewpoints.
We are imperfect and make mistakes, and that's why we don't let the crap from "back in the 80s" that was totally "cool" on the air today. It's not because everyone is a libtard snowflake, it's because we know it's wrong. I don't even know what "woman from Michigan" is, but you seem to be aware it wasn't appropriate since it "would be pulled off the air". That doesn't make you a cancel culture libtard socialist, it makes you a human who is learning from their mistakes. That's a good thing to recognize, not a bad thing.

Having everything sanitized is people forgetting about it. Look at the person who tattle told on Kaneda. What the hell is that? Just because you don’t like someone.

You know what I do with people I don’t like? I ignore them.

What do I do with people like David Duke and Al Sharpton? I think both are a perfectly good waste of a carbon based life form...and I ignore everything they say. I don’t pay attention to their garbage.

I don’t own the morale high ground to dictate what they can and can not say. That goes for the same person who had their feelings hurt by Kaneda.

In this free country, I have the freedom to choose who I want to listen to, who I want to ignore, which games I want to own, which games I don’t want to own.

    Quoted from HydrogenHuman:

This is going to be the new normal now that activists have become so powerful and out of control, especially in the USA. If someone doesn't like what you say or don't agree with you, they'll try to get you fired from your job or do anything to ruin your life.
2020 sure has been a hellish year, and it's only halfway over!

A good friend is an avid Trump supporter on facebook. Well, somebody mailed him a letter with information on his home, family etc and made death threats. He cancelled his facebook account.

    #968 3 years ago

We really need Kaneda to do a deep dive story on Kaneda! I always hear these stories but would be cool to see some sort of Kaneda timeline showing all the various things he did to upset people. It’s a documentary I’d watch

Yikes. Definitely not going to be able to change the mind of someone who thinks opposing what the KKK says is assuming the "moral high ground". I thought that the KKK was pretty much accepted as "not good" in 2020 but apparently here we are.

But Al Sharpton, is good? I don't think you got the jist of his post. There are bad people on "both" sides, just as there are good. To deny it, is to deny the truth.

If you want to compare the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan to Al Sharpton, with a straight face, and suggest that they are comparably bad at being humans for whatever you perceive their slights to be — well, we probably don’t have much reason to converse at all about anything.

I'm going to drop this because it's clearly not going to matter anyway, which is a bummer.

Okay. Go on. Continue to tell me how his involvement in an instance of being duped and hitching his horse to a bad wagon, taking a huge credibility hit forever afterwards, is as bad as being the Grand Wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. I’ll allow you as much rope as you want to use to get the job done here.

Cancel culture existed in the 1950's with McCarthyism, led to public outcry and moral outrage against crime, horror and superhero comic books. The worry was that they would lead to delinquency and Communist takeover.

In fact, there were even Senate hearings to censor them. Which is a shame since EC Comics, which testified, was responsible for creating some of the most iconic stories and artwork of last century. Many stories were ahead of their time, exploring social issues such as mob justice, drug use, racism. Unfortunately EC's comics only lasted five years, but in those five years they became inspiration for Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, George Lucas, and Stephen King.

Here is one of the iconic covers that was referenced as part of the trial, and can now be bought for the price of a Stern L/E. Crime SuspenStories #22 been homaged many times since.

I'll never understand the whole twippy thing. I thought it was fun the first time around but that anyone actually gives a shit is beyond me. Do you actually believe people are tying to silence him so he won't win a twippy. Hmm I wonder if it's just that he is an asshole.
