This poor thing was once an NOS fully populated playfield that never got installed in a game. Sadly, after having most of it's parts removed to go into another Shadow, it spent the rest of it's life in the garage.

There's a bit of corrosion on various parts but I can't wait to get everything off and see what the playfield itself looks like.

Wow, nice!

I know of 1 NOS Shadow playfield out there, albeit unpopulated. Amazing to see them with no Sanctum wear!

Chris

#3 10 years ago

Was it hidden in the back of that crate that Khan arrived in?

More bragging and showing off.

#5 10 years ago

I never saw one without any Sanctum wear.

Bite me, McCune!!

I'd say it turned out pretty damn nice. No issue with the inserts other than the black will all have to be redone.

I'll see your drool and raise you a slobber.

Never seen a Shadow playfield that nice.

#11 10 years ago

First we drool over your BSD find and now this, you lucky bastard.

#12 10 years ago

WOW, that's a nice find!

#13 10 years ago

Please tell me that you are going to clearcoat this with 1000 layers of clear to preserve for posterity. I am so jealous.

#14 10 years ago

I think you Bryan - have almost earned the Ignore list... haha

#15 10 years ago

So who wants to put a value on this. I'm not quite sure. I don't follow Shadow pricing at all.

I'd say $1350-1500 cleared or $1,000 as it sits.

Drool...so shiny, so pretty...

Please be realistic on the pricing opinions. The reason being, the guy I'm selling this to (no price agreed on yet, but he's buying it) is reading this thread and the guy I picked this up from (he wouldn't take any money until I cleaned it up to check out condition and determine price) is also reading this thread.

Both great guys and I'm stuck in the middle trying to determine what it's worth.

#19 10 years ago

I'd guess at $1000 right now.

$1300 cleared.

#20 10 years ago

Id say 50 bucks and a right nut, wait , you sold the nuts a long time ago. So i think the 1000-1200 for it cleaned and polished, and 250-300 more for professional clearcoat job

$1300 cleared.

As a Shadow owner pretending that I'm the buyer that sounds reasonable. More and it's too much.

#22 10 years ago

That looks so sweet!

#23 10 years ago

What a cool score!

It is super nice, but does require some insert touch ups o nthe black so maybe $850-$900 as it sits and $1050-$1200 all fixed and cleared?

#24 10 years ago

Maybe CPR would like it first to scan it for future use. Just thinking out loud.

#25 10 years ago

Realistically, 1100-1200 when done but need to minus touch ups and clear coat.

In my world, that equates to a 300-500 job depending on who you use.

That means 600-900 at the top in current condition. I personally have a tough time spending that much on pf for a 2000-2500 game. I think 650-700 is a fair price in this condition/game as it will still take a decent amount of work to restore it.

#26 10 years ago

I'd give you $700 without even thinking about it, I'm a little cheap, so it is probably worth at least $900 as is.

#27 10 years ago

I had two bare NOS Shadow pf 3 - 5 years ago. Sold them for over $1k each. Just can't find them. Also, are you repopulating it or selling it bare?

#29 10 years ago

Please scan it for CPR before it gets sold. Please!

People keep mentioning this. My question, does CPR do playfields from games this new? Seems like they are always older like 80's and older. Actually, why is that? Just how it works?

TOTAN, Corvette and Fishtales are in their queue.

#32 10 years ago

Don't know how.

#33 10 years ago

They get pretty picky, it must be NOS and blemish free. So i'd imagine they can't use this since it's been populated

#34 10 years ago

So pretty!

Does anyone know why Bally/Williams puts all those holes near the front of the playfield (under the apron area)?

I was also wondering about the red insert.

I wondered that as well. Just got done shopping mine out and wondered "what's with all these holes?"

I bought and installed an NOS Shadow playfield ten years ago, and that one cost me $500. I would say today that $1000 is a fair price.

For those that are saying clearcoat it, if you care about how it plays more than how shiny it looks, I would suggest leaving it alone. Shadow is a very fast game as it is. Plus extra clear won't really help the Sanctum area that much. That magnet just grinds the ball right into the playfield and will eventually compress the wood below clearcoat or mylar anyway. I brought mine to Expo back in 2004 right after the playfield swap and it was so fast that no one broke 650 million the whole show.

Quoted from RonB:

The insert under the apron was used to "scratch test" the clear coat and make sure it was adhering correctly.

Sometimes you see one that actually has a scratch in it.

CPR wants it scanned all in one pass. Google "Cruse Scanner" for your area.

Vid1900 has gotta be investing in these scanners. I've been seeing him post about these scanners a decent amount.

Because it's the right way to do it.

#43 10 years ago

The original clear on the Shadows I have seen was pretty thick in the first place.

#44 10 years ago

Damn Bryan.. Where do you find all these NOS playfields?

#45 10 years ago

yep, cruse scanners are the way to go. it's the way that mr. smith scanned my NOS williams joust playfield before he did the artwork for that playfield

#46 10 years ago

A price has been agreed on and keeps both my guys happy. The best part is, the deal involves me restoring an AFM cabinet.

Ya gotta love this shit!!
