Wouldn't the problem with opening the doors more frequently be the level of customer traffic when there are no tournaments to draw out-of-town players? There would be costs beyond the liscenses such as utilities, game maintenance, and insurance.

I wish it was open a few more times a year so I could drive 4 hours and play for a day or so but how many would do that?

Also, even if it were open just weekends, they wouldn't see near the traffic they see 2 times a year. When it's a big event, people go out of their way to go there. If they were open every weekend, I still have my doubts people from NY, MI, and OH would go out there for recreation very often. In addition, you have to think about how many games you saw out of order on Sunday Vs. the ones that were down on Thurs. Nearly none were down on Thurs. Almost every game that had a duplicate, and some that didn't had games down on Sunday. Maintaining along with all the extra business hours and labor just wouldn't be feasible there.

I'd love to see it open more times a year, but I can see why it's not.

Agreed. I'll mark my calendar for twice per year pilgrimages!

What about a monthly tournament? Would the local pinball community support that?

    #55 11 years ago

They already sort of have something like that.

It's not every month, but it's more than you see in a lot of cities.

The Pittsburgh Pinball League plays every week during a 9 week season, 3 seasons a year. We have so many players (80+) that you can pick from 3 nights during each week to play. Lots of local collectors open up their homes to host nights, as well as public locations. It's crazy fun and we are even raffling off a WCS94 this season. There's no shortage of large collections to play in around here.
