Since I'm getting back into it I think it's time to upgrade from my old POS Radio Shack soldering iron.

Picked up the SMD rework soldering station 898d+ : Stock Photo.

Not a bad deal for $83

That have a solder sucker/desolder as well? Also where did you get it?

Found a great price on it from Buy.com (Free Shipping)

Does not include the sucker but got a nice cheap one off Amazon.

The gun works great to desolder.....much better than the iron IMHO. You can dial in the temp on both. Pretty slick for the price. Came with 11 different iron tips and three for the heat gun.

Wow... not bad at all! You'll have to give a review on how well it works.

There's not a lot of surface mount stuff on pinballs. Not sure if you'll use the hot air gun attachment much.

Good luck with it, keep us updated to how it serves you!

Heat gun could be used to lower lifted inserts.

Could it also be used to remove mylar?

I thought they were using freeze for that... Not hot...

It's personal preference. I have always used a heat gun with great results, but you have to be really careful. The freeze method is probably safer for a newer collector. Too much cold does far less damage than too much heat.

Someone find a pic of the guy that burned the mylar into his playfield with a heat gun.... looked like the plastic caught fire and burned onto the whole PF... lol...

Just a little follow up. Great (best?) for its price. Both heat up very quickly and maintain their temp. This thing can go really hot if you needed it. I've used the gun and the iron several times each now and I'm really impressed with this purchase.
