I was planning on having my Global Warfare at the Louisville Arcade Expo this year, but it turned out my playfield was warped! It had water damage by the upper left drop target assembly (not sure where this was stored prior to me), and the playfield delaminated a little. I fixed the delamination with the advice of Mike Mills (big thanks Mike!) using a thin wood glue and a horse syringe. The warping was another battle. I made a frame out of 1x4" poplar and used furniture clamps and shims to slightly bend the playfield in the opposite direction. I used a steamer (OMG! water into a playfield!! Very scary), to make the wood a little plyable. After a few months in the frame, I took off the playfield from my poplar frame. It sighted good! I then made a new set of wooden side rails out of oak (closest to the GamePlan standard speaker paper grain). Rails were mounted to the playfield, and reinstalled in the cabinet to see how it fits...and WHALA! Flat playfield that has been fixed, minor touch ups, clear coated, and ready to reinstall all of the freshly tumbled machine goodness to bring life to my gem.
Anyone else have any crazy/should I be doing this type of pinball fixes?
