    Quoted from DBLM:

Let's be real clear on this: NO IMAGES OF CHILD PORN ARE ACCEPTABLE. Zero. Anything greater than the number 0 makes you a scumbag.

BS. Unless you can prove John knew they were children he's not a scumbag.

Do you think the millions of people who watched Traci Lords movies and the people who filmed and performed with her are scumbags? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traci_Lords

    Quoted from jawjaw:

Ugh. Like to think there is a misunderstanding but not looking good.

Being accused is not evidence of guilt.
Being arrested is not evidence of guilt.

This thread so far has no information suggesting he is guilty.

After you evaluate the evidence then you can make an informed decision about whether he did anything wrong. Until then it's just speculation.

    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

    Speculation?
    - search warrant issued
    - computer taken by police
    - arrested
    - sitting in jail waiting a bond hearing
Police don't accidentally arrest someone in cases like this.
This isn't a case where DNA evidence will exonerate someone. The police were obviously watching his ISP address.

None of the above is evidence of guilt. When a case is argued in court evidence is presented. Evidence like the images he's accused of possessing.

Fanning the flames of mob mentality with unjustified conclusions is harmful to society and you should stop it. When you have evidence he has done something wrong please post it.

    Quoted from Noahs_Arcade:

a harrowing read for those unfamiliar with the true workings of the american criminal justice system:
    https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/09/innocence-is-irrelevant/534171/

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

A sobering statistic for the "just sayin" and "these things often turn out to be misunderstandings" crew: The conviction rate in U.S. child pornography possession cases is 97 percent

A sobering statistic from the above article: "The vast majority of felony convictions are now the result of plea bargains—some 94 percent at the state level, and some 97 percent at the federal level. Estimates for misdemeanor convictions run even higher."

And: ""...plea bargains make it easy for prosecutors to convict defendants who may not be guilty, who don’t present a danger to society..."

When the evidence is presented for me to evaluate I'll decide if he did anything wrong. Until then he's 100% innocent.

    Quoted from DeathHimself:

Okay I have to ask a question on this comment, if you were truly innocent of any charge against you are you going to cop a plea of guilt on said charges when you know you have done nothing wrong for a chance at a lesser sentence? I know I will not.

Imagine these two options. Go to trial, 25% chance of conviction and prison for 25 years. Or plead out, no jail time, probation for ten years. Your trial lawyer will cost $50,000-$100,000 or more. The state has essentially unlimited resources to prosecute you.

Did you watch Making a Murderer on Netflix? Avery was wrongfully convicted, eventually got out and successfully sued. While fighting over the amount was framed for murder, forcing him to settle for about 30% to pay his legal team to battle the new charges. I believe he spent over $400,000 and was convicted anyway.

What seems like an irrational decision becomes a rational choice when faced with unthinkable possibilities.

    Quoted from iceman44:

Yeah its the cops fault. They have nothing better to do than falsely accuse a 70 yr old man because they have a vendetta against him, pinball designer.

Hyde Park isn't exactly a bastion of justice.

    Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

If he was accused of watching rape videos, you'd probably be worried about leaving him alone with your wife. That's what is going on in child porn videos, in case you didn't know.
Children are being raped, abused, or exploited. There is no grey area there.

Is that what John is accused of? Or did he have screenshots of the September 1984 Penthouse Pet of the Month who was 16 at the time?
There is a huge grey area. Wait for the evidence.

    Quoted from flynnibus:

My point was... the differing levels of disdain can stem from the position people have about the different degrees of "involvement"...

Another big part is one's confidence in the justice system. If you see it as flawed and unfair you're more likely to favor the accused. If you see it as mostly correct and fair you're more likely to favor harsh treatment immediately.

    #498 6 years ago
    Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

Are you arguing that a child can be a willing participant in a pedophilia video? That it is somehow not rape or abuse?
I'm arguing that viewing a child porn video is as bad as molesting them yourself.

Do you consider the porn movies Tracy Lords made to be pedophilia? She was 15-18. Are the six million people who bought her Penthouse magazine pedophiles?

Of course not. Yet some here are outraged because they assume the worst deviant behavior is what happened.

I'm very skeptical that a deviant of the worst kind would only have two images. But there are many possibilities.

    Quoted from Darscot:

Sorry but the whole she was 17 and looked older thing is as plausible as the tainted supplements defense in athletes getting caught for steroids.

Then it's perfectly plausible because I've manufactured supplements and the level of ingredient integrity for them is damn near zero. Case in point, look at the advertising Alex Jones has on his website.

    Quoted from TheLaw:

I always guess that these people are connected on the internet and swapping videos. I feel like I hear "sharing" or "trading" files when I see this in the news. One person gets caught and they follow the trail to everyone else.

The timeline fits with the takedown of AlphaBay. That happened back in July.

    Quoted from John1210:

Im left handed and i think JT is one sick puppy.
Its an illness? Hes innocent until proven guilty? The evidence was planted with a virus? And so on
Can we stop making exuses for this sick prick.

Your unfounded assumptions are a detriment to society. You and others who are willing to punish before guilt has been determined are perpetrating an unjust world.

Your actions are causing real, demonstrable harm to someone and their friends & loved ones.

You and your ilk have learned little since the Salem witch trials, the internment of Japanese Americans on WWII, the Red Scare, or the myriad other examples of a kangaroo court.

I detest the faulty thought process that you think gives you the right to deny someone the due process we all deserve when accused of a crime.

    #1276 6 years ago
    Quoted from Eryeal:

Yes that is very mysterious, but it got glossed over because it's pointless out of context. If someone knew JT was abusing children, and their course of action was to make a strange, cryptic anonymous post of one sentence on a pinball forum, then they have major problems as well.

Maybe glossed over at the time. Given the current context I think it's noteworthy. We have no idea if the poster took other action, nor who they are or how they determined what they believe is factual. Perhaps they notified law enforcement, perhaps they fiercely followed John at pinball shows and took photographs from behind. It's a lead worth investigating but without further information it's nearly worthless.

    Quoted from Gryszzz:

Sorry not sorry. YeOldPin, we've had some nice interactions before, and I'm not doubting your character whatsoever.

No worries Gryszzz. I don't take it personally. I do think it's important for people to have good reasons for what they believe. Many times it doesn't matter but in the case of crime and punishment it does. Recall the Satanic Panic back in 1992? A couple spent 21 years in prison for something that never happened: http://www.snopes.com/2017/06/23/satanic-panic
That's from right here in Austin.
Another case in the news right now someone wrongly convicted: http://www.mystatesman.com/news/local/greg-kelley-case-cedar-park-council-moves-toward-police-policy-review/QzeSIvZzUvcsKBoB25XZTK/

It's bad when people get due process and still suffer. It's worse when they're punished without due process and have little recourse against those that have harmed them.
The risk to society is almost zero if you wait for due process before punishing someone. The risk of harm to the accused is high if they're punished before due process.

    Quoted from Heaton3730:

If I'm 70 years old and think a 18 year old is yummy does that make me weird

    Yes because cannibalism is weird.
