Fantastic response by Stern.
They strongly condemned the alleged crimes, yet also gave a very slight nod to "innocent until proven guilty" with the "not currently reporting" language; it's a very fine line to walk, and they did it well.
I also think the charitable donation was absolutely appropriate, and lends credibility to their statements that they are experiencing a flood of emotions. Yes, it's obviously a calculated PR move, but it also helps the employees begin to cope and serves as a nice reminder that most people are motivated to perform acts of goodness when confronted with something so inhumane and deplorable.
It might have been a bit better had they jumped in front of this a day or two ago, but the overall response is probably about as good as anyone could pull off given the circumstances.
