All true. But also undisputed in this thread.

You ran into opposition when you said "innocent until proven guilty" in response to people assuming that he actually did whatever it is he's accused of. You're applying a legal standard to a factual judgment being made outside of the legal system. That's a very fair way for you to view things, but there's no social norm in the US compelling everyone to think about criminal cases that way, and most people don't. Just think back to the OJ Simpson trial (the first one, not the one for stealing his own shirts).

The rehabilitation thing is interesting. It's counter-intuitive, but sex offenders have much lower recidivism rates than other criminals.

That said, of course I wouldn't let him babysit my kids. Who would take that kind of risk?

Incorrect, not how it works.

The first "count" might be "possession of child pornography" (meaning it's found in the memory of a computer you possess). That could be one image, or it could be 1,000. Still just a single count.

The second "count" might be "distribution of child pornography" (meaning you sent images to someone else, either actively through email or passively by "sharing" them through an FTP or torrent program). Again, could be one image, or it could be 1,000.

Note that these are hypotheticals, I don't want to do any research on this case as it's just depressing. Point is, you cannot draw conclusions about the severity of an alleged crime based on the number of counts charged.

Check the PD Facebook post that DeathHimself posted: "seized computer equipment ... which contained numerous computerized files depicting child pornography."

Assuming they're using "numerous" in the traditional sense, that means they found lots of files, not just two.
