There are plenty of viruses that can install and download shit. He could have been looking at just normal everyday porn, and one of those pop boxes shows up. has the download button looking like the X in the corner. Now you just downloaded and installed a bunch of porn pics all hidden in your harddrive. 2 accounts seems extremely small. I'm not going to judge until I know more about the situation.

It's kind of like the sex offender register. Everyone is lumped into one big pot and labeled as such. But there is a big difference between the 30 year old after 10 year olds, and a 18 year old with a 16 year old girlfriend. Not a topic I want to dwell on but virus/trojan/etc activity generally has a goal more profit driven than, "Let's see if we can hide pictures of 15-y/o cheerleaders on John's PC." If his computer was hosting something he wasn't aware of, I would think most of these investigators know how to differentiate between that and a spank bank and certainly wouldn't risk the potential liability for thrashing some old dude just to pad their stats.

I disagree. When I was working for the webfilter company. Some viruses would instantly download all kinds of illegal shit all over the computer, and then try to hit you up with an FBI lockout and a number to call and pay a "fine" to unlock it. Seen it at least 50 times. and these programs threw major child porn all over the computer. I worked for that company for 4 years. I've seen pretty much all the dark shit the internet has to offer. Some real nasty shit out there.

well it was at work. It was my job to stumble upon those sites. we didn't call the cops from the 100's of child porn or beastality sites we seen either. Just put them on the block list for all customers and move on. we had 100k's worth of site to sift through. No time to dilly dally.

This same type of situation happened when I was in the Army with a guy in my unit. He was arrested in a sting and they found child porn on his computer. He was found not guilty in a court martial as I guess it was shown that there was evidence that these images were remotely stored on his computer without his knowledge. Everyone thought it seemed shady at first but I guess that it can happen.

Like others here, I'm sickened and saddened by this.

I was reminded of the Ghostbusters preproduction images leaks last year. I wonder if the leak was from an investigation; or more likely the leak was from a file sharing program. The default behavior of some file sharing programs is to share with everyone anything that's an image on your computer.

i've run into that virus around 50 times in 4 years. Why would we call the cops. It's not our job to police the internet. It was our job to categorize the internet so our filters would filter out the stuff our customers wanted. We did the filtering for milwaukee public schools and many other organizations. so it was our job to seek out and block the child porn before others try to find it. Child porn was blocked for every customer. no exceptions. but we had to categorize others as well. Like proxies, virus locking sites, video (like youtube), forums and shit like that. There was like 12 categories a customer could request to have blocked. So the entire internet had to be looked at, and filed under something.

Most of the big child porn server type systems are overseas anyways. Calling the cops would be pointless.

I had a childhood friend who after college had a roommate that was into that stuff but they shared a computer / he didn't know the shit his roommate was downloading. At any rate, my friends life was ruined.. between jail, then being on those sex offender web sites, people keying his cars, not finding places to live, not finding a job, etc.

Given that was the 2002 compared to now with viruses/bots and all that.. it is even easier to imagine someone getting caught up on the wrong side of over zealous cops and/or jurys who don't understand technology... And this crime being so horrible that people easily pre judge guilt.

So, yeah.. sucks.. hopefully justice will prevail in this case regardless.

I am a father of a 3 yr old daughter. I am upset that anyone would ever exploit or harm the innocence of a child or children. He could be guilty or innocent. I own about 5 games he designed. I do not advocate his actions at all.
I bought those 5 games and did not buy in or support his alleged sick perverted behavior. He was conpensated for his designs and for me that is where it ends. I will not sell those games or worry about values going down. It's not supporting him by owning those games. If that were the case; I'd selling all my Sterns and Williams games because that are linked to Trudeau.
It's not about values or a connection to someone disgusting. It's about punishment if applicable, by the law and God.

When Police lock a person up at their residence for child porn, and already have a warrant to seize personal property and electronic devices from a judge. You can be dam sure they already had a subpoena for your ISP in which already complied and handed over your IP along with the logs of that IP(s) in addition the site itself could have been a bait and login site setup by the authorities. They are already laying out all the digital trails showing the dotting of the I's and the crossing of the T's and leaving nothing un-turned.

What about the games he helped with but didn't get credit for? I've heard him at shows say he helped out on this game or that game, and I've heard other designers say the same thing about stepping in on a project. Do you need a list of those games, too, so you don't accidentally play them?
