The Jared Subway dude was also charged under 2 counts... Earliest release date is July 2029, this was after a plea deal otherwise he could have gotten 50 years according to his Wikipedia page.

News article just posted. Mentions JT and Stern pinball.
    http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/noted-pinball-machine-designer-charged-with-child-porn-possession/
Even has a link to a John's Arcade Stern pinball tour video.

I was surprised that Stern had a "no comment" when asked. I would have assumed that they expected the call to come and would have a canned response ready.

    That WAS the canned response.

It's not like Stern is some huge corporation with a floor of lawyers crafting clever press releases.

Maybe in a Catholic church or something, but has anyone at work EVER asked you if you if you were into Ephebophilia?
I've been on this earth longer than most of you, and the subject has NEVER come up.

Who said anything about a person being formally questioned?

    Certainly not me.

My point is there are certainly circumstances... yes, beyond one of the most well known of recent memory: Penn St... where a pedophile was recognized and nothing was done about it. It happened here in DC with the founder of one of the Nation's most prominent swim teams. He's in jail now, but it took decades for it to come to that point.

Whether it's bad legal advice, hoping it just goes away, or being flat-out ignorant, there are certainly circumstances where these creeps are ignored.

That's why all sports should be eliminated from our school systems.

No taxpayer's dollars should be wasted on building stadiums either. If you can afford to pay some nutsack $100,0000,000 to chase a ball around, you can afford to build your own arena.

You're lumping Penn State into a school system?

I've never agreed with you more. Not to derail, but back when I was in high school, I was the student who spent his time in the science labs more than anywhere else. While we science kids were using shitty old microscopes and scratched up glassware, and leaky bunsen burners from the '70s (I graduated HS in '09), the football kids were getting a brand new stadium lighting system installed. Mind you, the old system worked, but the board of ed claimed they weren't bright enough... They spent at least $100,000 (probably more), just so some sweaty ass kids could see each other better as they slammed into one another and gave themselves concussions.

I'm all for diversified education plans, but holy cow, I felt like we pulled the shortest straw on that one.

When I went away to college, one of the requirements for me was that the school couldn't have a football team. I didn't want a dime of my tuition to fund that nonsense.

    Just stop it man...please.

You're going to extreme lengths to say that maybe an institutional cover up could maybe be done possibly casue it liked happeend before those other times...what does it matter?

Pinball News is like "Hey Stern, remember banning us from the expo 2016 factory tour? Well this story will forever be one of your google search results"

I'm not saying that's the case here... you're misinterpreting. But I am saying that's it's impossible to know until the facts come out. Much like the man's ultimate guilt or innocence is up in the air.

You can't make any assumptions until the facts are public.

    #816 6 years ago
    Quoted from vanilla:

I took that fellow's post as a challenge to the intellectual honesty of some folks' stated positions.

As did I. And I feel like I've explained several times that it has nothing to do with that. One person is uncomfortable owning or playing the game. He is not trying to tell other people owning it is "wrong" -- he just doesn't like it HIMSELF. He is not compromising his values by selling it to someone who isn't bothered by the game. He doesn't find the *game* morally repugnant. But the game reminds him, personally, of something gross, so he'd rather own something else. I think it is bs that so many people are going out of their way to attack someone simply for not wishing to own it anymore. Is he really the monster in all this?

Lot of Penn State grads here, you really want to go there with that sort of sophomoric response?

You've brought Penn State up multiple times now in this thread and I've held my tounge...recall my post about guilt by association?

    Quoted from vid1900:

I'm sticking up for human rights.
Get a clue, real Americans fight for the rights of everyone.

Absolutely, man. These days you have to fight for what's right; fight for your life.

    #819 6 years ago
    Quoted from pezpunk:

I think it is bullshit that so many people are going out of their way to attack someone simply for not wishing to own it anymore.

I think its mostly people who are worried the value will plunge or feel weird about it yet want to keep their toy which would be easier if everyone was on the same page of "nothing wrong with keeping the game or letting my kids play it" which is a personal choice so either accept it or sell it but why would you give another owner any kind of grief because they feel uncomfortable? that's just foolish

You're right, it was a poorly worded response and not an attempt to diminish PS as an institution that grads shouldnt be proud of. Point was: the swim example has nothing to do with a school system, but a private institution.

It is always interesting to see how people who see the world in absolutes of black and white operate in a world that is mostly filled with shades of gray.

Yes, but there is a big difference in the circumstances (as we know them today). He was party to hidden cameras placed in a residence, where very young children that were known to the perp were filmed which likely moved it into an "aggravated" category.

We don't have any of the details in JT's case, but I would assume this wasn't the case or the charges would have been much different, and the investigation would have been much more intense. If it is simple possession, it won't be considered aggravated, and he will very likely never do any jail time. But keep in mind the PC is likely being sent to the lab for forensic examination, so there could be additional charges if they find additional material.

Much of life is black and white.
    If you're a thief you're a thief.
    If you're a liar you're a liar.
If you abuse another you're an abuser.
    Morality is not relative.

I disagree. And a lot or stories are based upon these grey area's. Like robin hood or every vigilante story. It's sometimes hard to say there is a difference between very wrong and very very very wrong. But I don't think that's for me to judge, that is what sentencing is for.

What if your significant other asks you if their clothes makes them look big?

    Quoted from HighProtein:

If you abuse another you're an abuser.

That term isn't ambiguous, so there probably isn't a counterpoint to this one like the ones above.

    Quoted from HighProtein:

    Morality is not relative.

Actually, it is. Philosophers can go in circles and have endless debates about morality. Different cultures also have different standards of morality. There are also different degrees of how bad or good something is on the morality scale.

    Ehh

Don't want to get involved with semantics but if someone goes into Chipotle gets a water cup and fills it with soda, is he a thief? (Yes a little) but is that the same as Bernie Madoff stealing billions of dollars? (No) there is some grey here.

    #828 6 years ago

Manimal - How would have the charges been different? JT has been charged with 2 counts of CP... Jared was also charged with 2 counts - the first for distribution and possession and the second for travelling to solicit minors for sex. JT has been charged with 2 counts as well. If it was just distribution/possession of CP that would be one count but there is a second charge laid so there must be more to the story than just distribution/possession such as in the Jared case.

Seriously---there isn't a person on this planet that technically isn't a liar. I don't care if you lie to not hurt someones feelings, don't want to invite them to a dinner party, or to avoid doing something distasteful. These are all way different than lying to steal, swindle, defraud, etc. and are socially acceptable. Yet would call these people liars?

And what if you think you're taking what belongs to you, but someone feels differently. Even if you're right, does that make you a thief?

And don't get me started on "abuse". The word has become so overused, it's essentially meaningless. Obviously, in any case involving children, it's less ambiguous, but everyone who divorces, sues, or has regrets over past relationships tends to throw it around to the point where it's lost it's meaning.

Appreciate that... I'm choosing to think I'm either accidentally going to out all the POS's in the industry though... like a divining rod? Maybe? eh... a curse def seems like a plausible explanation tho ...Def a poor judge of character tho...

And I have had a tremendously difficult time processing this, and as a result have chosen to be tight lipped, which is a first for me... I have 3 kids and can't fathom the perverse illness that would possess a human mind like this... just sickening...

...but I wanted to pop in to settle something (or add my 2 cents if that helps) and that is that I do NOT blame anyone for ANY response or reaction to this horrific situation. Hell, I can't even play my GB since this came down. I HOPE that feeling passes - but at this stage, with no resolution for a sick f*** that deserves to be removed from society - I'm not sure you can rationalize a bad taste... MANY MANY good folks made that machine what it is despite the man credited - so I hope they don't suffer from the stain in the end, but understand the fallout and do not blame anyone (except the bad guy)...

I've got no jokes here either - that's a first for me as well... the closest I have to a joke is not really a joke - but perspective... maybe JPOP wasn't so bad in hindsight? I'd like to publicly apologize to him and thank him for just being a criminally stupid guy versus a depraved pedophile?

And lastly, for those hitting Stern - I can't speak for them & am only speaking for myself - but I KNOW it's sickening to everyone I've spoken with and they will do what is in their power. No one supports this behavior under any circumstance...

Please don't let these experiences drive you away because your work has been treasured and nothing any other loser in the hobby does can devalue that. Quoted from vid1900:

Google does not find the phrase "Do people know who Mr. Trudeau really is?" except for today's date, on the German site:
    http://www.flippermarkt.de/community/forum/showthread.php?p=1481237.
You'd imagine that if it's been up for 4 years on Performance Pinball, it would be indexed by now.
The OPs name is "Ghost of pinball past" and does not have a link associated with it, just like the other posts created by Kevin.
    I'd say clickbaiting .
    ..
How long will it take Google to index it on Pinside, now that I've just put the phrase up here?
    .

I believe that I can provide some clarity here regarding the dates. A friend just let me know about this post as I am aware of the unfortunate news I no longer spend much time on pinside but I thought I should respond to this here. The comment on my website is not clickbait and completely legit time-wise and was in fact something that I saw when it was posted in my news blog in 2013. I do not know why google has not indexed my site though I do not believe that I had ever made a site map so perhaps that is why? I am not sure.

I did think it was strange when it was posted but did not dig any deeper into it. I even mentioned reading this in a Facebook thread when news broke and thought it was something I saw on pinside years ago, not remembering it was a post made on my own website as the site has not seen much attention from me in awhile as I have been busy with other businesses. Vid, we had talked previously and you had even provided some content for my website in the rest tips section if I recall correctly.

    Quoted from indypinhead:

If the 2013 statement is true, I wonder why didn't this person, who seems to have 1st hand knowledge, report his behavior to the authorities?

Catching up this morning. I'm wondering what may have been reported awhile ago and how long the investigation has been going on. Does anyone know of Trudeau's past and what children were under his care?

I try to see some silver lining and think that maybe there was just a perverse curiosity, but no. Those that are even remotely interested in this trash want to do more than just look. Looking at children in this way may be a sickness but it is too dangerous to have in society. That old post suggests he most likely acted on his impulses.

I just listened to Kanedas inflammatory and accusatory podast regarding Steve Ritchies facebook post.

I wont say too much again on the facebook post as I already have, but long story short, I think Steve Ritchie created that post out of pain he felt by finding out a colleague and a friend has horrific unimaginable accusations against him.

And after thinking about it I am not going to hold it against kaneda (as much) because he too had a visceral reaction to something. Emotions are high. Someone many of us either respected or met or even knew personally has been arrested and accused of a heinous crime and its hard to wrap your head around it. Everyone is going to have wild immediate reactions that are on a visceral level because this to us is unfathomable. Using terms like "literally" and putting emotional context on a vague facebook post and creating a whole podcast seems like a bit much to me. But like I said, kaneda was just reacting like we all are. If I was him though I would retract it as it was pure emotion and basically putting words and meaning into Steve Ritchies mouth. Can you imagine if you were Steve Ritchie and you open facebook in the morning and find dozens of comments about this? How many private messages do you think he received with links to the news article? How many people asked him about John? Of course you would want all of that to go away. This was your colleague and probably friend. he made an ill advised facebook post in a moment of extreme emotions which he realized and took down within minutes.

I don't understand the monkey pile on steve ritchie.

Well, I do. People here are pissed that Star Wars isn't "a world under glass." People are pissed that he doesn't seem to have a very high opinion of the pinsiders who shit on him endlessly. So here's an opening to sanctimoniously dump on him. And boy are people excited at the chance to fire off some cheap shots.

Steve isn't the bad guy here. Steve isn't the guy out on bail. And the hilarious thing is people DEMANDING he "address his statement" and upset that he deleted his post - which seemed like a perfectly sensible thing to do.

"This food is terrible, and such small portions!" comes to mind.

Sorry, there used to be something known as RESTRAINT in our culture. AKA, don't just spew garbage with no restraint or remorse.. and then expect the world to give you a free pass when you come back afterwards and try to crawl back with excuses. This type of behavior is part of what got him banned in the first place. It's deplorable behavior that shouldn't be welcomed or tolerated anywhere. It's a big part of the negative side of this community where people think raging is fine... as long as you come back later and ask for forgiveness (and then repeat the cycle). No.

Think before you speak.. if not, own the consequences.

Sorry you have had some sour experiences in the hobby. Please don't let these experiences drive you away because your work has been treasured and nothing any other loser in the hobby does can devalue that. We look forward to your future games, and I hope one day to own one eventually when the right game comes along.

I second this. We need ZY to stay in the hobby for sure. No one attributes any of the crap with JPop or JT to him or his work in any way shape or form.

Well said. Since Kaneda was removed from the situation (as in he did not work with JT like SR did) he barley gets any leeway in my book and I honestly think he should delete the podcast now that he has had time to reflect on what he said. I just see the place he was coming from (this time on this subject) because of emotional response, but obviously past experience and past behavior will color how people see you.

    Quoted from Spankey:

Catching up this morning. I'm wondering what may have been reported awhile ago and how long the investigation has been going on. Does anyone know of Trudeau's past and what children were under his care?
I try to see some silver lining and think that maybe there was just a perverse curiosity, but no. Those that are even remotely interested in this trash want to do more than just look. Looking at children in this way may be a sickness but it is too dangerous to have in society. That old post suggests he most likely acted on his impulses.

I understand the reaction to Steve's post. It was not well thought out, it may have come from a lot of confused feelings. Maybe he thought about it and came to the same conclusion and deleted it? Maybe Stern asked him to and not to comment on the situation. I won't try to read someone's thoughts after one comment.

Let's let everyone catch their breaths. One bad seed does not paint pinball, Stern or anyone else in a bad light.

    Quoted from Minneapolispin:

Anyone who has seen the movie "Boogie Nights" remembers what happens to The Colonel after the police came knocking on this door and find "something". I sure wouldn't want to be in prison, accused of the charges JT is looking down the barrel of.

Was reading about Jerry Sandusky and he's not allowed contact with other prisoners because well that's why.
