I remember buying my first game ten years ago and rec games pinball (google group) was full of “it could just be a fuse.”

Today I am cleaning out my pinball cabinet. A decade and maybe 60 games have come and gone. Number of times it was “just a fuse” = 1 and that was on a STTNG. And of course the fuse I needed then was not in the collection of what I had on hand.

I was lead to believe I would be changing a lot more fuses.

I wish I had a dollar for every ad I have seen saying "Its probably just a fuse." I HATE to see that. Like saying "Its probably just out of fuel" for a car that doesnt run. Another fun one is they assessing a value to a repair when they have never had the glass off of a machine.

Yupp, "probably an easy fix" is another sales line you see often...

I just think it’s kind of funny. Rookie me thought that if I was going to be getting into pinball that I’d be changing fuses very often. It’s been quite the opposite.

However I bought a lot of fuses when I first got started. I actually found even more after I took that picture.

What is kinda funny--a fuse is now the last thing I check when there is an issue. Probably should be the first, but as it has been said they hardly ever are the problem. It is always a surprise when a fried fuse actually is the issue--but if you don't have one on hand good luck finding one locally.

I bought a Diner a couple years ago that “had a bad display.” Turns out it was just a fuse!

I helped a guy one day who had changed his spark plugs and then his car was running poorly, kept stalling. We looked it over a bit and noticed he was parked on a slope and also had only about a 1/4 tank of gas. Had him turn the car around and it ran fine.

I would never tell you "it's just a fuse", but I might say something like "it's probably just a loose wire"..., or "it worked the last time I played it"...LOL.

    It’s probably just a ‘possum.

Bad monitor in an arcade? Probably just the bulb.

People pay me to fix their games and you'd be surprised how often a fuse fixes a game. I don't like it because I usually can't figure out why the fuse blew. I can check solenoids, connectors, diodes or whatever the fuse protects, but often there's no sign of what caused the fuse to blow.

It happens more often on older games and games kept in unheated garages. Cold and old games draw more current. I explain the situation to the customer. That it may blow again as soon as I'm around the corner, or that the fuse may have just died of 'old age' and they won't see me again for years. More often than not, I don't hear back from them. Sometimes it really is just a fuse.

Well, EVERY SINGLE GAME I’ve bought had at least one incorrect fuse installed, usually a few.

I have bags full of pulled, but still good fuses. I have quite a supply of new fuses too. I like having lots of fuses. Helps me sleep at night.

Well, all the positive remarks on how often it really is just is a fuse gave me confidence to bring this home today. Seller said "It just needs a fuse and maybe a couple of legs--good as new!" Hope I have that fuse...

    This.

Same for me, every game I buy have at least one wrong fuse (often 4-5 wrong ones) and ofc always rated higher.

I have seen numerous machines for sale where something isn’t functioning properly and the seller has in the ad “probably just a fuse”. My first thought is, if that is all it is, why didn’t you buy a 25 cent fuse and fix it, if that’s all it “probably” is. SMH!

Probably, wouldn't the "working pin" be worth more too...

First DMD game I ever bought (T2), I got from a little sandwich shop in town. Backbox lights didn't work, guy said "probably a fuse_...I said "if it was, you probably woulda fixed it...i don't know how to, so it's prob gonna run me $100 to hire someone that can"...he knocked $100 off the price.

It was the connector (notorious on this game).
