Quoted from KimCHilla:You have been able to deal with the mouth sticking open by cutting a slice of the upper jaw didn't you?
Could it also be a problem with the coil?
I already tried to cut a bit of the upper jaw, but it did not help so far. I am hesitant on how much more I should cut of.
The coil drives the jaw open, and it is sprung closed, so likely not the coil. You might have a look at the jaw hinge binding on the T-rex head rubber cover. Hard to see, but when the jaw is wide open, the hinge can bind on the inside of the cheek or eye area. The rubber can be shimmed out a bit if it is. I believe another poster had that issue.
Quoted from KimCHilla:Thank you for your tip.
Some days ago it worked perfectly three times in a row. But now the Trex never went through the chomping motion in about twenty tries in a row.
My issue was also temperature related. The jaw stuck open more when the room was cold, and before the machine (and the room) warmed up.
Quoted from KimCHilla:Now after 2 houres of playing the game, it suddenly started working properly. Maybe it really has something to do with the temperature. But the temperature of what exactly?
Also do you know, what mecanisme closes the Trex jaw?
Thanks so much

In my case it was the temperature of the T-rex. The T-rex rubber seems to contract a bit when cold (my machine is in a room that I don't fully heat when I'm not using it). The lower jaw rubber was binding with the T-rex rubber, but like I mentioned there can also be some binding of the jaw hinge with the T-rex rubber that can be an issue as well. Before I fixed it, if I powered up the machine and turned on the heat for a couple hours before playing, it would always work, but if I started playing with the room cold it would bind. The jaw should open and close freely with the jaw open test.
Quoted from datakyki:Hi all. New JP owner here. Just recently picked up a premium. There's a bunch of threads on the T-Rex and I've been hunting through them for an answer to a question but not (yet) finding it.
Still getting used to the game but I'm not convinced my T-Rex is working right. Grabs the ball just fine when it's time to feed her but she drops the ball nearly every time when her head moves to the left after grabbing it. It's dropping right on the plastic there that covers the left loop. I'm concerned that isn't right and it will eventually crack that plastic.
I've seen videos where she drops the ball into the return rail. Mine doesn't do that. It does move back to the right and stops over the rail like it wants to drop it there but the ball is long gone. I've done a coil test and it does seem to grab the ball when I stick it in there but only briefly. I'm guessing the coil test only pulses the magnet and doesn't hold it on?
I've seen lots of posts about alignment with the ramp, which I've done. Also about the opto sensors on the ramp not triggering but I don't think I'm having any of those problems since it does grab the ball and start the multi ball rather consistently. Mine is an April '21 build so I think that's after Stern made changes to the opto height anyway. I've tried turning the magnet power all the way up but doesn't seem to make any difference.
Any thoughts or advice about this? Any other adjustments or tests I can run? Or is it doing what it's supposed to do?
Thanks!
That sounds like how mine was acting when the jaw was not closing properly. The coil drives the jaw open, and it is sprung closed. If there is a bind, it doesn't close right away and the ball drops out early. Check out Post #8555.
Quoted from ExportZ:When a very fast ball enters the "O" orbit, the opto does not see the ball and the post does not rise to stop it.
Any tips to help the opto see a fastball?
The post only pops up when the truck is facing one direction (left IIRC); it doesn't pop up when the truck is facing the other direction. Are you sure that's not the case?
