I had this conversation with someone last night....even at a 3k delta it's not just money thrown away and an LE isn't "just paint" as some have said.

Quoted from Jj557:

Buying an LE now may be silly in terms of value but that absolutely has not always been the case. The price difference between Godzilla Premium and LE was $1500. For that price you got art blades, side armor, mirrored black glass, shaker motor, HD glass and better decals. While that doesn’t represent $1500 in value it’s fairly close and you were also getting rarity. When stern bumped the difference between models on Bond to basically flipper pricing it changed the value proposition significantly.

"To celebrate this milestone anniversary, the team at Stern has created a software update available for all existing versions of the game. The update offers new ways to play; including Co-Op Play, Team Play, and a 30th Anniversary Insider Connected Quest. The update also brings additional polish and refinement throughout the game experience. Co-Op Play gives players the unique ability to collaborate in order to escape Isla Nublar and reach the ultimate wizard mode, “When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth!” Team Play allows players to challenge each other in any combination of 1 to 4 players. The new 30th Anniversary Quest will be available to users as part of Stern’s award-winning Insider Connected™ system. The Quest will challenge players to collect Dinosaur DNA strands throughout the game to create amazing dinosaurs and earn badges."

Oh i've been crossing my fingers for co-op and didn't think it would happen. Thanks to everyone else who asked Stern for this feature. This made our house happy for sure!

Just received the JP 30th Anniversary email from my distributor. Even if I liked the art package better than the Premium (which I don't), just the idea of the time and money involved in reapplying all the upgrades/mods I've done to my Premium is enough for me to pass.

Does anyone have an idea of when the new code update will be live? I just checked from my game and it doesn't appear to be yet.

Stern announcement says "sneak preview" of the new code tomorrow on stream. So I'd guess it's not likely to be out before then.

#17606 3 months ago

You can finance it! Only 16k!

Quoted from Pinball-Cruiser:

While new code updates would be nice, it's just a peace offering since they knew this release would upset a lot of people. I don't like where things seem to be headed with uninspired cash grab releases like this and pricing in general.

Seems like you were cool with “cash grabs” when you bought a Mando topper. Seems like a lotta “do as I say not as I do” around pinside lately. Stern can’t win either way. They release a substantial code update for a 4 year old game and you’re complaining that they did it as a peace offering.

#17608 3 months ago

We got to try and get the movie code project moving again, it is so good but needs wifi, insider connected, and home team. Is there nobody in the community that have the skills to do this? I'm not a coder but we got to have a couple here with a JP. TMNT has different code and Stern or the IP holder (Paramount Global) didn't come after them. Also, you can remain anonymous online with some basic steps.

I love that topper and not complaining about it at all, but now selling my Mando premium. Btw, I doubt this will be a substantial code update (asset wise). Also too many Stern fanboys on here as well.

When stern bumped the difference between models on Bond to basically flipper pricing it changed the value proposition significantly. In the old pricing structure I don’t see releasing new LE variants as that big of deal, but now that stern is pricing way beyond the extras it’s a crappy move that makes LEs less appealing.

I'm mostly with you on this but I can't even be mad about it since it was our own doing that this happened. Everyone wanted to snatch up LE's to flip, and people were willing to spend a lot of extra money to buy said flipped LE's. Hard for me to be mad at Stern for changing the price the way they did and makes it hard for me to feel bad for LE owners. Yes I know many LE owners simply wanted the game, but it doesn't change the fact that it was easy to change their mind at any point and make money, which A LOT of them did.

I'm pretty excited about the code updates - whatever people want to think or complain about. That's Pinside!

New machine is beautiful IMO though.

Quoted from shovelhed:

I have a loaded premium with a ton of mods I would let go for $9500 or best offer.

I tried that to clear room for an incoming game. Very little interest with JP Prem NIBs available, summer slow time, and so many new games coming to market. So I made room to squeeze in (by inches) and keep my JP rather than dump it...

I’m not saying I don’t like Stern, have several, but I’m moving on to other companies recently.

I think you are missing the point. Selling overpriced accessories is not nearly as egregious as making more LEs simply because you can sell more. The JP feature matrix was pretty clear that LEs were limited to 500:

Quoted from beelzeboob:

Well aren't YOU a f**king ray of sunshine!

I've got the movie code and love it. I'm interested to see what's new in the code update, but think I'll probably leave it as is.

While I really enjoyed the movie code for awhile, I switched back around the time home team was introduced. As someone who did enjoy the movie code, switching back isn't so bad at all and I think I prefer it now. For me the movie code call outs were more entertainment than informative. Tim was polishing up the length of callouts making them better etc but of course he had to stop development. So in a way the game now feels like i'm playing it more to play pinball with the Stern code. Hope I explained that in a way that doesn't bash the movie code because it's pretty amazing what he was able to do. IMO things like home team, co-op, and bug fixes are well worth going back to Stern code.

I'm coming back to Stern recently. For various reasons with each of the other manufacturers. I'm sticking to Pros and Premiums though.

These aren't LEs though they are "30TH ANNIVERSARY" with different artwork. So there are still only 500 LEs with those colors and artwork. If they were making another batch of LEs then your argument would stand.

#17619 3 months ago

Im confused, so other than the decals and the powder coating, there are no other major differences?
Thanks

For the new code, can you even go back to older codes or once updated that’s it?

Yes, just swap SD cards.

Quoted from AMartin56:

Nobody at the current asking prices when you can get a NIB delivered to your door for MSRP. Sellers are still a bit delusional IMO. They'll come around to the new reality eventually.

This exactly. I put in an order for a JP Premium after the 30th announcement and staring at silly people trying to get more than retail for used ones. Sorry, but 8.5k is the max any used JP Premium should be going for. Capitalism works both ways.

Extremely basic economics is being put to work right now.

We have a glut of Jurassic Park games for sale. The demand for the new LE may be there, but the demand for the premiums that need to be unloaded is clearly not there.

Would I like to get the new LE? Absolutely. But I also don’t want a Jurassic Park Premium just sitting in my basement at the same time.

Oh come on, my argument stands - they ARE making another batch of LEs. Giving it a different title on the plaque and new cabinet artwork doesn't change that fact.

I wish someone would post yesterday's email to distributors as it would be very clear. My distributor paraphrased the email as "since we only made 500 JPLEs and not 1000, we feel it's appropriate to come back and make another 500".

Whoa!! That code update announcement is incredible!
I gotta say…feels like a classy move there. Some great updates for everyone that was funded by 500 machines feels like a fair trade.

I am hoping they do some sort of super douper anniversary Maiden edition so it can get new code!

So will I need to have the insider connect apron in order to install new code. I have a pro with regular apron. Or is there a way to install onto flash card or corded connection?

Who did the art on the 30th anniversary LE?

Looks like Johnny Crap. The funny thing is they probably had him draw a few extra translites back in the day and you're just now getting the fourth best one at an inflated price that didn't make the initial cut. LOL

Love this inserted ad from Pinside... need some AI in here to read the room... lol Marked up new LE's already. Awesome.

You'll be able to update via USB or write the 1.10 full image to an SD card.

#17632 3 months ago

I just looked and saw 41 premiums for sale. That is more than GNR's lol That rules out the chance of upgrading as the JP market is saturated.

Some new code updates coming to all owners. That’s great news. Hopefully features like coop and team play make it into every Stern release.

I dig it.

If you're doing a new version of the game and it funds an update for all owners of previous versions that feels like a win all around.

It's just pinball. Your LE or Premium that you've played and enjoyed for years is still fun. If you liked it last week you can still like it next week, despite knowing some other version exists now.

And, you'll like it even more with new code. Just be happy and enjoy your games.

How about the NIB for 9k?

Just shows how over saturated the market is for Jurassic Park premiums.

How does this affect your enjoyment exactly?

It lowers the value of his LE (if he has one).

#17639 3 months ago

I got one. From what I hear the smaller distributors are sold out that got 3-5. Larger ones have a few left. I see them selling out soon. JP is sterns best game imo. This art package is how it should have looked back when released. Love the look.

#17640 3 months ago
Quoted from Damonator:

And they still are.

Quoted from Trekkie1978:

It lowers the value of his LE (if he has one).

This shouldn't be a concern ever. Don't buy an LE or any game if you're worried about the value decreasing. Is it preferable if it doesn't decrease? Of course, but these things aren't investments and you have nobody but yourself to blame if you ever thought otherwise.

#17641 3 months ago
Quoted from Trekkie1978:

It lowers the value of his LE (if he has one).

I do own one - and I love the game (and actually like the original LE art better than the 30th) so the value is a moot point for me. I bought mine before the prices went crazy so I'm not upside down even after the dip.

But for those that bought a JPLE during the last couple of years, I'd be pretty pissed at Stern if I were in their shoes.

Quoted from Palmer:

How does this affect your enjoyment exactly?

I'm not experiencing less joy, I'm experiencing less trust. The ENTIRE point of a limited edition game is that the quantity is stated by Stern before the game goes on sale. Doubling the number of LEs by changing a plaque and the cabinet art is a shady move. This will cost them in the long term.

#17642 3 months ago
Quoted from PoMC:

Yes, just swap SD cards.

Does that still work if the node board FW was updated in a newer release though? Is there a definitive answer on whether you can go backwards, or does that risk bricking a game/board? I would assume that all the node firmware revs are back compatible so this wouldn't be an issue (no way to control what happens when things RMA etc), but I haven't tried it.

Fool! Did you not see the lone hidden pinball price bubble thread here on Pinside. I know it's kind of hidden and you really have to search for it, but if you try really hard you can find it.

Ha no, this is one of my only keepers. I do however regret passing on a NIB for $7300 in 2021, pretty much right before the GZ price increase

#17648 3 months ago

Wish I could get my hands on one of those new aprons with the full decal. Love that look on my Godzilla and wish JP was the same.

#17649 3 months ago

Here’s my question:

How many premium owners will upgrade to the new LE, while still holding onto their premium?

If so, how long are they willing to hold the premium?

As I told one of my friends yesterday, I would love to get the new LE, but not while I have the premium, which looks like could sit for a long while.
