Quoted from Needmorcowbell:

I’m getting some plays on my JP and I love the game. However I have two issues that I cannot iron out.
2) T-Rex Ramp. See pic #3. I’ve had a ball stuck here 3 or 4 times. Hits the T-Rex, bounces up there and gets stuck. Any thoughts on fix? The plastic seems very short to me but I’m sure there is a reason for that …? Is there something I could put on top to push the ball to the left so it does not stick between that and the wire form?
Thank you
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

You can put one or two clear cabinet bumpers there to make the ball go to one side or the other so it doesn't get stuck there.

#16802 3 months ago

You can actually pull that white switch out, which bypasses it and then you don't have to hold it in.

Quoted from AMartin56:

You can hold down the safety switch so you can leave the door open.

I’m getting some plays on my JP and I love the game. However I have two issues that I cannot iron out.
1) Raptor Wall. I posted earlier that it would not go down all the way. Got a couple responses to lower the screws underneath and I did adjust the screws. I actually took them too far down. Then back to what I think is proper. However, the wall still does not always go down flush. It does sometimes but probably 75%+ time does not. See first two pics, you can see it does not go flush. Any thoughts? I have not once had a raptor multi ball release properly. It is always stuck.
I believe the underlying issue is not the screws because when I had them down too low, it would still lower to this height most of the time.

[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Here's a key post from the other JP club forum. I just searched "raptor height". Not sure if you've seen it or not, but might be helpful:

Just noticed there’s a “30th Anniversary” logo on the backbox art of my new Premium. Seeing as the 30th anniversary is next week, is this something they just added this new run?

#16805 3 months ago

Pic? I don't think mine has that. Unsurprisingly. Lol

Edit: ya it does, actually.

I think you can pull out on the safety switch to bypass it also.

I'm possibly, maybe considering picking up a JP Premium, but have only ever played the Pro. I probably have 150+ games on the Pro from having it in leagues for 4 or 5 seasons. I absolutely love the game.

Does the dinosaur head kill the flow of the game? Are there issues with the head mech? I like the raptor pit upgrade and the helicopter, but wasn't sure about the dinosaur head so I thought I'd ask.

I don't have access to play the Premium.

Thank you!

It does kill the flow but for those that like animatronics, I guess it’s cool. A lot of owners say their kids love the Dino, but I think they would love a static Dino just the same. I think it’s one of those toys that look cool the first few times but also give u a break between shots as a trex mode kicks off. It’s not inturrupting every shot at that ramp.

There have been issues with the mech reported in this thread, I’m not sure about the variety of issues but others I’m sure can report back.

#16810 3 months ago

If the cost of a Premium isn't too big of a concern you can always turn the T Rex off. Personally I find it amusing.

I still have the NIB power blades… retail is $350 plus shipping and I will sell them $325 shipped

I hate to disagree with you, but where's the B referenced in NIB?

I've never had any issues with the T-Rex since I've owned my premium (purchased new a couple of years ago), and I've even added The Art of Pinball T-Rex skin. Just because a few people complain about issues with it, doesn't mean it's prevalent. Also, personally, I enjoy the occasional few seconds of rest when the T-Rex is shaking the ball around in it's mouth.

I think the animation of the T-Rex paired with the roaring and shaker is great. Just had some friends over the other day for the first time to play it, and their thought was how awesome it was, and even commented how it feels like it was shaking the entire house.

Has anyone in the States received their JP2 Prem from the latest (May) production run?

Here in the UK, my retailer says he only gets a week’s notice of new pins arriving and I’m working out whether to reschedule a tournament being held at my house. So, just wondering how long mine will be…

Yes.In the US I think the majority of them have gone out. But apparently Stern built more last week..

#16815 3 months ago

My optos are out for delivery today from pinball life, so hopefully that's all that's wrong I'll have a working game. Lol

I agree it's worth it.

I think the moving T-Rex is a must- have, especially when it activates in conjuction with an external sub that shakes the room during the roar.

Add in the movie code showing the on- screen T-rex and you've got the trifecta.

#16817 3 months ago

Turn it off when ur playing seriously and leave it on for everyone else!

I love the random nature of the T-rex throwing the ball wherever the heck he wants. To the previous point, you shoot at that ramp a ton and it only rarely grabs the ball. So while it does stop the flow for that one shot, I see it more as a build up like many other games do before a multi-ball scenario.

Kept having issues with the one-way gate in the spinner lane, so I just took it off. Shouldn’t effect gameplay much, right?

Flipnout Greg says Stern hasn't decided what to do on these yet, but it's "safe to play it", as if I can do that anyway lol

For "one of sterns biggest dealers" you'd think they'd be doing more to get your game running...

At the least sending you optos on their dime while they get replacement from Stern, rather than making you buy replacements.

#16822 3 months ago

I love the STATIC TRex. No issues to worry about. No the head only sometimes works, No break in the action.

Always found it funny how people complained the hand in JM "takes forever", but the TRex gets a pass.

Greg sent me a similar email.

I think the way they are approaching it is just fine. At the very least they use complete sentences (unlike some dealers) and respond quickly. I have no doubts about their service so far. It's going to take Stern time to commit to a fix...that's just the nature of things unfortunately. I doubt Greg has access to a bunch of spares.

By the end of the year I hope to have a GZ, JP, and DP. They share a lot of boards. By sticking to Spike 2 I can justify having a spare of each common board that is reasonably priced. So I pretty much have one of everything other than a CPU board. So yes I'm paranoid but it makes this stuff easier to take in stride.

Seems like a real risk to drain SDTM if it comes back down that spinner lane.

Super exclusive ad from the Pinside Marketplace!
#16826 3 months ago

You've already established that you don't like them because they charge an advertised price for their game, clearly stated up front, it's cool, you can move along....any dealer unless they have the optos in stock will have to ask stern to ship them to you, which is what they've done. I think emails from any dealer on the weekend, after hours and a holiday constitutes being pretty solid. Go "blacklist" some more sellers that advertise a price and then charge that price in a directly and clearly communicated way lol

Which boards? And where to buy. I am going Spike 2 heavy so that sounds like a really smart move.

#16828 3 months ago
Quoted from DCfoodfreak:

I would suggest looking at your manuals and cross referencing the part numbers. I get the boards from Pinball Life. I have a power supply, a Power Distribution Board, a cabinet node board, a trough emitter, a trough receiver and a playfield node board.

I didn't buy a CPU board ($500!) and I tend to avoid the feature control boards like the T Rex and GZ building since they are a) expensive and b) you can turn those features off and still play the game if you HAD to. But I DID buy a few motors because they are cheap and are identical in both machines.

Through past experience I'll be grateful to have this stuff in 20 years...I'm even considering a JP left ramp as it's my only plastic ramp at the moment.

I'm think I'm paranoid....lol.

So does the raptor model on top of the pen do anything? Mine is leaning up there over the pen, but never does anything (and I couldn’t find anything in the diagnostics to test)

#16832 3 months ago

SHE, clever girl, bends all the way over when you hit a shot into the pen.

#16833 3 months ago
Quoted from jrcmlc:

SHE, clever girl, bends all the way over when you hit a shot into the pen.

Well, SHE is always bent over the pen (i.e. - leaning forward). Is she supposed to pivot back on her own?

#16834 3 months ago

lol, yah she's supposed to be standing up, if you look she's got weights attached to her tail/asshole and she should move freely, mine was loose at the base screws and the plastic around the pen was loose, once tight she was good

#16835 3 months ago

Also her arm can get caught. Mine stays leaning forward half the time because of that, I think a few people have used a heat gun to bend the arm so it doesn't get caught but it never really bothered me.

Find the post on bending the arm with the heat gun if you're going to do it because you need to use a very little amount of heat from what I remember or else you can melt his arm

I had my engineer draw up some playfield holders from scratch, mine that I bought (that I apparently didn't need) have never shown up. The manufacturing guys have done the prototyping and I have tested them myself already today.

EDIT: I have 10 sets queued, 3 are sold, 7 available, they work great, ship for a couple bucks (included in the price), mine don't have rubber or padding, I see no reason for it, but take no responsibility for any damage, obviously use the side protectors, etc, yada...

I'll do $20 shipped to lower 48, that seems pretty fair to me, if we end up making a bunch that can decrease after a while I'm sure. Zelle or venmo for now is all, once these 7 sets are gone I'll see about making more, they've moved onto non pinball things this afternoon, but those 10 sets will 100% be available to ship by Monday, some tomorrow. Next week they have a few other overpriced items to look at, see if we can draw them better, make them available to everyone far cheaper, etc.

Necessity and frustration are the mother of a good # of things here lol. For now, PM me and we'll get you taken care of, will see as things go on.

I picked up JP premium in a trade. Was one where I met halfway in a parking lot. Game itself it working pretty well but I noticed when I started playing that the post that guards the upper flipper was crooked. I thought the post just needed to be tightened down but the flipper coil mount blocks it on the other side. Its like the post threads are too long. I didn't want to torque down any more than I was. I asked the previous owner but he said he never did anything to that post. Rubber sleeve was taken off before I took these photos.

Bent from impacts? Pull it out and look at it. You can shorten the threads with a bench grinder if you need to. Someone else notched out the flipper plate to clear access to it as well. Buy a shorter thread post is another option.

#16849 3 months ago

Never mind. Just had to clean up the threads and it was able to tighten properly.

Is the dinosaur ball lock finicky like the Stranger Things TK lock? Sometimes it grabs the ball, other times it doesn’t.

Maybe just remove the post altogether.

The guy who just listed this JP for sale mentions how he pulled that post and installed some type of plug. I just PM'd him to ask what that's called. I want to do the same thing to my premium.

Here's his listing which has a close up photo without the post: https://pinside.com/pinball/market/classifieds/ad/158264
