Quoted from PtownPin:

Great comments....I'm curious why 7 degrees is the magic number? I say that because I just picked mine up last week, and from habit just set the game to 6.5 degrees at the flippers

If I am not mistaken, there is a quote from Elwin himself (in this thread somewhere or the LE/Prem thread I think) where he says it was designed for 7 degrees.

Thanks .... I actually just made the adjustment, and I can see an improvement

I don't know why people keep repeating this when it's not substantiated and it was even directly commented on by the designer. Elwin said in a recent podcast that it's a myth that he designed to a certain pitch and said he always recommends to set a game to whatever feels comfortable to you. This was even discussed earlier in this thread relatively recently:

Quoted from Had:

It has been discussed that Elwin suggested a pitch of 7 degrees for this game. However, he recently debunked this.
Set it to whatever feels right - typically between 6.5 - 7 degrees.

Even with that said, I am pretty sure there is a post by him somewhere that he said that. I could be crazy but I'm pretty sure I saw it myself when I first got mine.

EDIT:

I may be thinking about his post stating the position of the flippers being "saggy" by design.

Pretty easy thing to just check by filtering for all his posts in the JP threads:

Got my gnarly raptor shooter rod from Diddy's yesterday...sharp teeth too.

I notice about 1 in 100 times going up the left ramp my ball won't register. Has anyone else had this problem? Obviously, the opto's are working the other 99% of the time. There's a plastic piece at the top of the ramp that should keep the ball from getting airborne and not registering. I was just curious if anyone else has this problem? I own a Pro.

Yes others have come across this and it's been discussed in this thread. Some have found the opto slightly misaligned, others have used black tape over the lower part of the opto hole to ensure fast balls are detected, while others have found the plastic hole in the ramp to refract/reflect so have bordered the hole with black tape to ensure only the direct opto beam can be seen by the receiver.

Quoted from purbeast:

- Lowered slingshot power but not as low as the ones like I explained above. Can get exact number if you are interested.
- Lowered flipper power to I believe 225 on the lower 2 - kept the upper default.

Thanks for this, I had read others lowering the flipper power and dismissed it until now. I have now done both of those and my scores are better, I think the lower powered slings are helping me more. But after getting used to the lower powered flippers I think I'm slightly more accurate and the bricks are less punishing.

What setting do you have your slingshots on? I have lowered mine too but I don't know the exact number off the top of my head.

I've just had my game a few weeks and a couple of times I've noticed the gate on the raptor cage only comes down about halfway and then gets stuck. No matter how many times it's hit by any of the players, it just stays there. But after that particular game is over, it goes back up as normal and works ok on the next game. Is this normal, or a glitch? Thanks.

Mine never stops half way. Something is blocking yours underneath somewhere.

There's been reports of this by others over the last couple of months, but I've not seen a fix (there has been speculation that the issue is a bug in the s/w). My suggestion would be to place a support call with Stern - the more people let them know of the issue the more likely it'll get addressed

My slings = 12 (default 32) they are still very responsive and seem to have about the same power as a common 90's pinball. At the default 32 they were so strong and fast that they would send the ball down the outlanes at lightning pace. Which might be good for operators, but not much fun as a home player.

I have always left my pins at default settings in the past, but JP at default is just too hard and random.

Lower flippers I now have set at 245 and I find that I'm shooting better and still have plenty of power for the ramps.

(Top flipper I kept at default 255)

If this is happening on start up of the machine I would say it’s likely to be this bug other people have reported. If you notice it happen on start up you can go into the diagnostic menu—>game—>gate and reset it there so it works from the first game. Please report it to stern as a bug, email [email protected] or call 1-800-542-5377

I’d also encourage anyone else having this issue to report it, takes 2 mins to write an email and the more people that report it, the more likely they are to do something about it.

#14171 1 year ago

I still have this happen occasionally. It is fixed by going into the menu and resetting the game by using the test function. Once set up it won't fail again until you turn off the game and you MIGHT have to do it again. IT happens randomly so there is no way to replicate it.

I have reported the bug to Stern but a one off report will not be enough for Stern to pay a developer to open up the code and work on it, It needs to be reported by ALL owners who experience this and they might look into it.

The way to report the bug is by sending an email but I can't find the email address I sent it to. EDIT: @noskill beat me to it! thanks

I can echo what the others have said that it looks like it is a code issue. I have 2 versions of the code on different cards and it only happens on the most recent stern code. When I switch it goes back to working normally.

I got am insider connect kit in the mail I wonder if I should hold off on adding the new code and kit until this is resolved sounds like hassle I don't really want but that explains why I seen the gate half up on the game at my location.

First pinball machine ever and part of the Jurassic team! Loving Elwin’s design philosophy and I’m looking forward to more of his games coming out.

Since I’m a few years LTTP, are there any default setting adjustments people recommend?

I wouldn’t hold off because of it. It’s not a big problem.

#14176 1 year ago

It's really easy to reset if you have the raptor gate problem, I'm one of the users that reported it, just hold down the start button and left flipper to restart the game and it'll reset the gate properly.

Totally agree - I believe with IC you get the benefit of being able to get to Goat Mania, which was the topper specific mode (Although I don't believe I have gotten to it myself)

Not only does it look much better and is of better quality, it costs a fraction of the price too lol. I got in on the second run they did this past fall but I don't think they are doing anymore unfortunately, so only way to get it is 2nd hand now a days.

It may be worth shooting them a message though. I randomly asked them about it back in November if they were going to be making anymore and that is when they let me they were currently working on a second run that they weren't advertising and they put me on that list.

Update: The raptor gate is sticking at least 75% of the time now, both at the beginning and middle of games. I reported it to Stern but haven't heard anything back. Major disappointment to wait a year for a game and then have an apparent software glitch that shuts down a good portion of the game and which they won't even address.

The soft glitch does not affect the gate mid game. It never has in mine.

Have you checked the assy and the switches?

Here's a crazy question, has anyone who has done the Jada toys Jeep upgrade tried to put any figures in the Jeep? I do scale modeling and am trying to see if there are 1/32 scale figures that could be repainted to represent Ian Malcolm, Dr. Sattler, and Muldoon (the three in the T Rex chase scene). I'm not finding much except for slot car figures, most of which has helmets on.

I just had a generic figure that I painted to look like Nedry in a yellow raincoat. Not to perfect scale, but I like him. I probably have an extra figure if you are interested (will need to search through my stash of stuff). Here is the set I bought: ebay.com link: itm

I started seeing some weird behavior today, such as the C and H shots were registering without hitting them and the raptor gate going down right after the start of a game. There weren't any stuck switches, but after some troubleshooting in the switch test menu I found that moving the T-Rex mouth triggered a bunch of switches off node board 9. I figured there was something going on inside the T-Rex head and it wasn't too hard to find out what after taking it apart.

I soldered the ground wire back on and everything is back to normal. The head moving back and forth combined with a weak solder and not enough slack in the wires seems like what caused it, so something to look out for in newer builds.
