Also, I changed my mind about the sling plastics - they’re great as they are. The cutouts at the top let you see the posts and nudge if needed.

Yeah I was inteding to pull them off before I got mine but haven't really even noticed them

Quoted from jacksparrow0112:

Got lucky and found 2 pros on location this weekend...

Darn, been checking the FWPinball site to see if any showed up yet. It isn't listed yet at Summit or Floyds. I know where I'm headed this week!

Thanks for letting the Indiana guys know where some are out in the wild.

11 days in and I finally hit the double super skill shot. Had the first 2 down but always choked on the watchtower shot.

That shot feels amazing as you start to dial it in, doesn’t it?

Anyone else have trouble downloading the latest code 0.87.0 can't seem to get mine to go through.

#1106 4 years ago

I’m thinking of doing a video with my son JG, who will be 21 soon. We’ve bought 3 new Sterns since he was born in ‘98:

2004: LOTR (he was 6)
2013: MET (he was 15)
2019: JP2 (he’s almost 21)

I thought it would be fun to get his take (and mine) on the evolution of Stern’s art, rules, display, gameplay and audio over 15 years. We’ve bonded over these games and many others for 20 years, and he has no filter on his opinions. I think they are all instant Stern Classics, and it’ll be hard for me to pick a favorite. I feel very lucky that I can still keep our old favorites around.

Lafayette has one as well, and I'm pretty sure Indianapolis should have 2-3 on location from what I've heard.

Quoted from TheLaw:

Wonder if it's the ramps or just the inlanes?

It is the ramps, the spinner works kind of similar to the spinner on Nine Ball, build value then collect. I also realized T-Rex multiball has levels kind of like Tropper on Maiden. I put up 74 million in the T-Rex Multiball last night, and later jdoz2 told me the jackpots are worth even more if you hit them from left to right on the playfield so I'm going to give that a try later tonight.

#1110 4 years ago

Have spotted this driving around town a few times lately.

At first I was getting bored with T-Rex multiball as it wasn’t worth much. Then I discovered you could build the value before you start it by hitting other orange shots and now it’s fun again to me

Quoted from Da-Shaker:

I purchased the longer thread, but decided against it. After measuring, I didn't think it would fit with the nut. People might not like it, but I just used JB Weld and screwed it back in, then added a green rubber to it.[quoted image]

JB Weld might end up working out just fine. I decided to apply a fix that should hold up and be serviceable, too. Took a spare flipper baseplate, ground some material off of it, installed this flipper baseplate in a slighter different position, maybe swiveled it about a half inch to fully expose the t-nut. Now there is room for a longer post with a nylon nut holding it in. Used an old post from my parts bin that has a longer male thread. This is a location game and I just didn't want to keep messing with this post.

Quoted from Blu:

While I agree that the secret skills shots are valuable, they don’t hold a candle to the awesome feeling of hitting that 3rd combo of the standard skill shot. I can’t think of another game that has a skill shot that feels that good.

It took me a week, but I finally hit all three skills shots for the Double Super Skill Shot. What a rush!

#1114 4 years ago

I’ve got my game on 5 ball temporarily so that I can get a little deeper into the modes. At one point I heard the callout “Amber Ramps”. I hit the ramps but didn’t notice anything. Cool mode, if it’s in there. Even on 5-ball, my best game is just 325M. I need to play better.

I’m finding the Helipad shot to be pretty tough - it takes a precise hit to make it all the way up. Fortunately the reject from this shot goes right back to the left flipper, so you can try repeatedly.

I’m not sure how I feel about this mod yet. It’s not mounted, just wedged in place currently. I feel bad that I had to cut his tail off to make him fit. You can upvote this post if you like it, and downvotes won’t hurt my feelings at all. Curious what folks think.

Do you have the details of the longer threaded post? (Where and what?).

What about drilling a hole in the base plate to allow for the longer thread with nut?

Probably the toughest shot in the game for me. I guess the tower ramp is worse but only because it doesn't get as many opportunities.

The Amber XXXXX features aren't separate modes, just a way to increase your Amber Bonus faster (besides the pops)

From the rules sheet on Tilt forums...
http://tiltforums.com/t/stern-jurassic-park-rulesheet-wip/5644

*************
Amber Bonus
Pops build your Amber Bonus. Collect the Amber Bonus at the pops standup. Capturing Dinos provides a one-time multiplier to your next Amber Bonus collect. If you capture multiple Dinos between Amber Bonus collects, then the captured Dino Amber multipliers stack.

Amber Features: Each Super Supply Drop awards an Amber Feature to grow your Amber Bonus faster by increasing it with each successful shot/hit:

Amber Slings
Amber Targets
Amber Ramps
Amber Combos
Others???

I think it might look better cut off at the hind legs. Just my opinion.

#1123 4 years ago

Here’s how I mounted my Papo T-Rex. Totally ghetto, but it works pretty well and is mostly invisible. I may buy another one to try a shallower mount like @graysonsdad suggested.

With and without Pinstadium lighting. 1 set is in a dark room, the other set is with overhead light on above machine.

How can you stand all those horrible looking dots of light reflecting off of everything on both the sides of the playfield?

Oh if only Newman had pinstadium. He would've made it to the East Dock for sure.

I've never understood why modern Stern games needed more GI light on the playfield. These games are already the best lit and brightest games in history. I swear most games pre 90's games have like 12 incandescent lights in the GI and somehow we all survived. Even 90's games were exceptionally dim especially pre leds. Now games need to be lit up like the Vegas Strip.

#1131 4 years ago

I love em!! Its not for everyone, but they are staying put on my machine. Just throwing the pics out there for anyone curious. No need to dedicate 10 pages to debating the pros and cons of them. That's another thread altogether.

Thanks for posting the great comparison pictures!

#1133 4 years ago

For one or two machines, I use a small clamp light above with a 40w soft white bulb off to the side for each machine so as not to reflect on PF glass and it works fine for darker playfields.

Your pictures just show me that I can save a few hundred dollars by buying a $1 lightbulb and i wont have reflected dots everywhere.
Kidding aside, Phillip's Hue lighting is cheap and I can choose whatever colours i feel like. I can even control it by voice.

Quoted from cooked71:

What about drilling a hole in the base plate to allow for the longer thread with nut?

I used a standard sleeve post with a #8 thread, using a nylon nut to fasten it on the bottom. I saw a similar post on pbresource.com in the post/screw section. I looked at using a drill and decided it would be easier to just use my bench grinder. Couldn't work on the baseplate in the game as I didn't want to get metal shavings all over the place, so I knew the baseplate had to come off anyway. That section of the flipper baseplate is a curved edge and would be difficult to drill, it was a snap using the grinder. I always keep spare baseplates so I reworked the spare and changed it out for the original baseplate.

I just can't my head around why anyone in the world would think pinstadiums on this game make it look better?

Stock jp is dark as shit.

Doesn't look "dark as shit" to me. In fact, I'd much rather look at it stock than seeing all the little balls of light from the Pukestadiums bouncing off everything all over the playfield.

Quoted from Dantesmark:

Looking at a lineup of Deadpool pro, Afm (90s), Star Trek pro, Black Knight pro, Jurassic Park pro and White Water, Black Knight is easily the darkest of all of them. JP wasnt that bad and this was a dimly lit bar. Any modern game is still brighter than incandescents. I dont play in the dark when im home anyway.

Any1 put a pbl shaker in yet?

#1142 4 years ago

I put a Stern shaker in mine yesterday, definitely makes it more fun. The start of the T-Rex multiball especially.

#1143 4 years ago

Agreed on the shaker! Stompy Dino fun!

I’s like to add a spotlight or 2 near the helipad, but I’m afraid to tie anything into the Spike electronics. There must be a way to add external power safely.

I've downloaded the .87 code from Stern, I've unzipped the file. I see the 2 files stern says should be there. What exactly am I copying to the USB stick? Both files? Just the larger file? One file has a stack of books icon next to it and is significantly smaller. Sorry for the dumb question....
