Since JP is my favourite game and I have learned most skills on this machine you might check out my latest tutorial too, good stuff.
Credit goes to Escher Lefkoff, I learned the Ski jumps from his JP streams https://www.twitch.tv/steveopub

cheers

Nice! Hey, where did you get those flipper decals? They look cool.

#10102 3 years ago

I got the Ultra-Skillshot (4 way combo) for the first time last night! Man that was satisfying. Basically left ramp, right ramp, tower, “O”.

Here, but the letters fell off right from the start. However it looks cooler without them anyway

Thanks, hadn't seen those before and I'm not a caution tape fan.

Once you you learn how to get all 3 extra balls it’s really not that hard to get to Escape Nublar. I think the hardest part is to remember to hit the truck and start T-Rex modes as your capturing all the dinos. Getting to “When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth” is a whole different story.

I agree, it’s half skills and half having a solid understanding of the rules and how to implement them and progress to the end. If you focus on getting to visitor center, playing all three control room modes and completing Trex modes you’re there. This game is really about not getting distracted by things that don’t bring you to the wizard modes.

I wanted to show the new shooter plate I'm just finished with the help of @markharris2000. I'm taking orders immediately, but will post an ad in the Pinside Market later showing it installed on the pin. I've designed options for both the standard shooter plate and the one that comes with the Stern amber shooter rod.

The price for the shooter plate mod is $20 (includes US postage), so please PM me if you are interested in purchasing, and let me know which version you prefer.

PS: I'm also developing for other Stern titles, but JP is the first to be revealed.

Quoted from swampfire:

I can get the extra ball from rescues pretty regularly. Is there another way to earn EBs? With the game set to 3-ball, I can rarely get past the 3rd paddock. For me, there are just too many shots needed to advance, especially for the later paddocks. We’re not talking about Whitewater here.
I’ll probably set it back to 3 balls once I’ve seen the Visitor’s Center, and those hidden Control Room modes.

Remember also that you don't HAVE to capture the dinosaurs in the paddock to advance to the next paddock if you're just interested in making it to Visitor Center. After a dinosaur munches on all the employees (failed rescues) in a paddock the dinosaur will escape and then you just light MAP again to advance to the next paddock. So you don't absolutely have to go for rescues and trap the dinosaur to advance to the next paddock. You can start a paddock and then go for T-Rex modes, control room modes, or Pteranadon Attack while the dinosaur does its thing until it escapes.

Also, you can set your Replay award in the menu settings to give you an Extra Ball and you can adjust what level to award Replay at. Most importantly, just have fun playing!

I've been away a while and haven't even turned on my JP in weeks. Are more code updates expected?

I am sure timlah79 is cringing at the thought of any new version being released, but I am sure it will happen at some point in our lifetime since its just a 2-1/2 year old machine!!! LOL. That said, if you have 1.03stock or Mod40TS installed, then you are good to go and current for the foreseeable future. Turn it on and enjoy...

Here is a follow-up to my earlier post regarding the 3D shooter plate cover. Just finished installing, and looks great.

I know there’s a lot of options out there for GI lighting but could you guys recommend some bulbs to replace my dimly lit ones with as I’d like to try that route first before I’d go Pinstadiums. White ones are fine I just need something a lot brighter then the crap bulbs that are currently in there. Thanks.

#10115 3 years ago

Hmmm...I like the frosted warm white that comes stock. Have you checked your GI brightness setting in the menu?

Yes I have. Pretty sure it’s at 255 if I recall.

#10117 3 years ago
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

It’s not about being competitive but actually learning how to play the game IMO. The fact of the matter is that pinball is hard, I have friends who won’t even set their games to 5 ball for their children and you know what? Their kids will smoke you. Practice makes perfect. And in the end you can feel proud of what you’ve accomplished. Slapping away on a $6k pinball machine just to see pretty lights is just...such a waste.

I would argue increasing your margin of error helps you learn. It's why we practice in sports. It is not an exact facsimile of a true game, but it allows you to see the facets of a game, learn the rules, learn the skills and learn how all those things interact in a more forgiving environment. Which is what practice is. To say nothing of the fact that the 3 ball standard is a pretty arbitrary historic thing and is only meaningful because it is the standard from which a competitive score becomes comparable. If you aren't competing, who cares if you have fun wracking up a billion points in 3 balls or 5?

#10118 3 years ago

I finally upgraded from 1.01 to 1.03, and now it seems like all my non-flipper coils are stronger. The defaults are maxed out in the settings, so I must have had the strength dialed down before. Now the chaos target in the pops gets hit a lot more frequently, which will make this more fun.

Modding...boy oh boy, we sure have time during Covid, thought I would share some mods and how my JP looks. First thing I did was add headphones and Pinmonks quite fan. JP with headphones sound great!!

https://images.pinside.com/a/70/a704062d787b13f17c1f038ac2784671c15b7936/resized/large/a704062d787b13f17c1f038ac2784671c15b7936.jpg

Then, I added Mezel Mod Raptor pit mod, trees and jungle diarama I bought off of minivictorianlace (thanks Wilberto757 for the info!!) ebay. The jungle diarama is very well made. As well, there a spitter I found on Amazon.

https://images.pinside.com/8/1a/81a9fcda7ffc9af6c77e14e76bd010ab8c503bc1/resized/large/81a9fcda7ffc9af6c77e14e76bd010ab8c503bc1.jpg

Then added the pteranodon and more trees, love the tree effect for sure...

and then had to do the matchbox chopper and tied its light into the helipad light, super simple :

Finally, over the weekend picked up some PDI glass:

and the piest de resistance is the fan edit code. I have made up SD's of stern's and the Fan Edit. Stern is ok, but love the edit. Love this pin!!!!

Animal Whats the Jungle Diarama?

#10121 3 years ago

Jungle diorama are the little bushes and shrubs... you can see them behind the raptor and near the nose of the t-rex.

#10122 3 years ago

Most parts suppliers don’t have Jurassic Park specific parts in stock (eg ramps, plastic sets), but they do have similar for slightly older Sterns. Should I be concerned that I won’t be able to buy parts a couple of years down the track?

Quoted from Zanado:

I would think that the pinball parts suppliers will stock what is needed/sells and given JP is still relatively new, most issues would be sorted under warranty. So would expect that suppliers will stock parts as the demand for them starts to appear - well that's my take on it

No problem! It was a great find. For anyone else who wants them, he is talking about the jungle bushes around the raptor in my photo. They go in and out of stock on ebay by seller Minivictorialane.

Hello. I'm thinking about getting pinstadium but not sure which version. Any recommendations which version to get for this game? Anyone have a video of how the neo fusion interacts with it and if it's worth getting? Thanks

I have no experience with the Neo Fusion, but my go-to Pinstadium now is the Omega. The price is right, and there is no candy striping on ramps and other features along the sides of the cabinets.

I use the Omega as well. I have the UV flasher connected to the flasher from the raptor pit.

Anyone have links to where I can find an amber LED for my start button? I got the orange stern button kit but the light included is cool white and is washing out the orange color when turned on.

Also is there somewhere I can find amber colored coin reject buttons?

Im trying to match the amber shooter rod I have and amber colored speaker lights. Thanks guys!

I had to open my Start Button with my first JP machine since it was not lighting. I found that there was a simple wire leg that was incorrectly bent in the wrong way... easy to fix it. If I remember correctly, it's a standard T1-3/4 LED (also known as the 5mm LED) and if you search on eBay for "amber led T1-3/4" you see packs of high quality 10 for $5 or so.

ebay.com link: sch

As for the coin reject button, PBL has the greenish-Yellow one which could be lit from behind with an orange bulb to give the effect of Amber. But if you want the amber button plastic, Pinball center has some that should work:
https://www.pinball.center/en/shop/pinball-parts/cabinet-parts/coindoors-accessories/8133/coin-reject-button-30x40mm

Good luck

So, I always have been a serial modder, but I guess its been next level with all this Covid time on my hands. So, after picking up a JP prem...here are some mods/upgrades Ive done.

The first mod was replacing the Spike fan with pinmonk's fan, a hassle, but cheap and does a great job, no more annoying intermittent fan. As well, I installed headphone jack and I really recommend it - with headphones on you hear everything very clearly and it reduces the physical sound of the pinball and flippers in the machine.
20210330_222457 (resized).jpg20210330_222457 (resized).jpg

Here are some pics with side art installed and Mezel mods raptor cage mod. As well, in the background are shrubs ( you can get from Minivictorialane on ebay - thanks Wilberto757 for the recommendation) and trees scattered in a few places actually to lend to the jungle feel.
20210330_194842 (resized).jpg20210330_194842 (resized).jpg

You can get the trees on amazon and are very inexpensive. I put a bunch of trees behind the raptor tower and it is a cool effect when the t-rex's head moves into them. ...and as well, I found a small (to scale-ish) dilophosaurus you can see in the first pic...
20210330_194906 (resized).jpg20210330_194906 (resized).jpg20210330_195258 (resized).jpg20210330_195258 (resized).jpg

Maybe a little hard to tell, but I hid a couple of small LEDs under the raptor tower pointing down to the playfield to help brighten up the top half of the play field.

I bought my JP with the replacement signs which is a really nice upgrade and I bought a toy Pteranodon on amazon and mounted it on its ramp - simple, cheap and nice effect.
20210330_194949 (resized).jpg20210330_194949 (resized).jpg

What took the most work is modding the matchbox helicopter, Thank you Mr_Tantrum for the amazing tutorial. Once again nice effect since the 2d chopper plastic looked cheap. As well, I put a light in it and tied it to the helipad light.
20210330_194956 (resized).jpg20210330_194956 (resized).jpg

The last two mods are the best:
1) Fan Edit Code - hawkmoon77 & timlah79, you guys did a stellar job integrating sound and audio from Jurassic Park into the machine, thank you thank you!!!
2) PDI glass - best mod money can buy
20210330_195352 (resized).jpg20210330_195352 (resized).jpg

and was lucky to find a machine with the topper and amber mosquito shooter. I just hit 1 billion today. Loving this pin!!!

Thanks. I usually use the launch button anyways. I was just surprised by how much vibration there was. It was really not that easy to install. Those screws are barely accessible.

Yep, there is a lot of mass on the end of that shooter rod.

This is actually one pin that doesn’t need a manual shooter rod. There’s no skill shot based on plunge strength, and no reason to soft-plunge that I can see (I could be wrong).

You can soft plunge and go for several secret skill shots. Its probably in the rules wiki.

First time pin owner here. Noticed this evening that I have a few insert LEDs that appear to be out and do not turn on during the service menu test. They are the “Light Escape” arrow insert, the “Spitter” insert, and the “Amber Award” insert. What will I need to do to replace these? I looked on the underside of the playfield and the insert LED for “Light Escape appears to be attached to a larger circuit board. Will that whole board require replacement, or just the LED? Any tips are very much appreciated!

Likely have to replace the boards unless you're very good at soldering. Is it still under warranty?

Check that board for loose connections or disconnected wires first.
