I had a similar problem and just replaced the switch.

#57 10 years ago

I bent mine for a while which helped a bit, but didn't solve it completely. A new switch had the correct amount of "give". Not guaranteeing results, just sharing what worked (and didn't work) for me.

Quoted from rviguet:

I am adding a 12V LED strip to my Jurassic Park while I have it apart for a shop job.

Is this to light up the Jussaric Park letters in the back? I want to do that. Can you post details on which strip you bought and the wiring solution once done? Thanks!

#177 9 years ago
Quoted from rviguet:

Nope, I am lighting up the banner that says "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" and a backboard mod I made. I have plenty of LED strip left over, however. What Jurassic Park letters are you talking about?

Doh! Total fail. Yes, those are the letters I was thinking about. That's the danger of a bad memory mixed with posting something far away from your machine. So, that clarified... I wanted to do the same but the strips I've gotten from Comet for other purposes are too short. And, wasn't sure how you would need to connect into 12V.

Had to share... My 17 year old had friends over last night. Just went into the basement and even in the dark saw that it was a mess - cushions out, blankets strewn about, etc. Ignored that and flipped the power on JP. As usual, the T-Rex cracked the silence with it's roar. Well, I guess 1 or 2 of the friends must have slept over because instantly I saw at least one very confused head pop up from the sofa nearby. Sheepishly turned the machine right back off and went upstairs. Would rather be playing now rather than browsing pinside, but it did give me a laugh. Probably not the nicest way to be awoken after a late night.

Very nice setup. Is the armory a sticker or poster? Did you make it yourself?

These really are nice mods. I was watching the game play video you posted to show them off (two great games in a row) and noticed that your pop bumpers are a lot livelier than mine, the flippers are stronger, and was impressed that you could backhand the ramp repeatedly. Need to put some time into it to see what can be done to improve mine.

Who on here is reproducing the T-Rex with teeth? I think I saw a comment awhile back with prices around $400. Thanks

Anyone else ever have music from Chaos stay on after the five extra balls have drained (so only one is left in play and Chaos is over)? This has happened to me multiple times. The only way it stops is when the last ball drains. Just curious if this is a known bug.

Hopefully there's someone out there who already has a burner and is willing to do some burning and distribution. If no one comes forward during the next couple of days, I'm happy to buy a burner and split actual cost between the number of people are interested. Everyone should also make a donation to Chad on top of what you pay to cover burning materials costs to thank him for making all the great information available and sharing his personal efforts with the community. I'll be doing so when I get my ROMs installed.

Wow. The new code is just awesome. Chad is the man. There are so many things, but the things I appreciate the most:
1) extended ball save time
2) skipping the trex diagnostics on start up
3) additional chaos call outs for each shot hit

The first two just make the game so much more pleasant / less frustrating. I know it's stupid (diagnostics don't take that long truly), but if I had only time for a couple of games, I often would skip JP in favor of another game that was ready to play immediately at powerup. Having the ball drain out of the pops after 4 seconds was just demoralizing.

The chaos callouts add much more than I could have imagined. With so many balls coming at you, you usually don't see when you hit the chaos shots at first. Hearing it is extremely satisfying.

I got inspired yesterday and spent some time fixing a couple of little things. The machine is completely dialed in and I'm loving it. Had been thinking of trading it not too long ago, glad I waited.

Quoted from goatdan:

Immediate drains shouldn't have been an issue before either

I agree that this is frosting on an already nice cake. That said, I assume that he means that if by chance you do drain immediately, it is no longer an issue because the timer has been extended by more than the original 3 seconds. This was a big improvement - especially since sometimes you really would drain immediately but the time the ball spent bouncing around before fully draining would allow the ball save to expire. As mentioned above, I consider this one of this top improvements.

Quoted from goatdan:

I'm not overly surprised that people haven't raved about this code yet

Should have made it more clear... This is an official rave about the new code. I'm raving.

Quoted from delt31:

You know what? You're right - it is scoring everytime!! haha

Some people will do anything to rack up the points.

I just "fixed" something on another machine that was wrong, but allowed me to get much higher scores. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't just a bit tempted to put it back now that I see my average scores drop. But will resist the temptation.

Quoted from Edenecho:

Does anyone know if its possible to get modern stern quickness in the pops if they are rebuilt?

This is a regular complaint. I know that some folks have mentioned swapping out the spoons with Williams versions. I'd try adjusting the leaf springs first though (power off - lesson learned). And, be sure to clean them. I used a business card to clean the contacts on mine and made a world of difference. After that, I dropped all notions of more drastic rebuild. Got all the liveliness I wanted.
