It's been a while since I've looked closely, but it's just gravity that makes the ball fall backwards, isn't it? If so, it can only be that the T Rex is tilted too far forwards, or the whole playfield is on too much of an angle, or there's some obstacle behind the ball that's hanging it up. Right?
Edit - further thought - if the up/down switches are badly adjusted, the motor might stop before the T Rex is fully upright. Or, it might go beyond the upright position and start going down before it stops.
