Those big red resistors get pretty hot. (if the game locks up they'll desolder themselves from the board). Someone was probably concerned

I have had that exact fan, it makes a lot of noise. You could put a high powered silent computer fan in its spot if you wanna keep the mod but don't want the noise

You could also bulletproof the driver board and replace the transistors with mosfets.
Yep, fan is noisy and has to go. I would prefer to make upgrades and ditch the fan. Would the upgrades be covered in Clay's guide?

Wasn't sure if he had an emotional attachment to the fan . Mainly just wanted to point out that radioshack fan sounds like a jet engine.
