Quoted from KLR2014:

Bought this Seeburg 222, a few month ago. really adds to the total game room experience in my opinion.

All the 50s stuff is cool. But I sure love me some 222! (The 161 is a close second!)

Quoted from 64bsstp:

Toucanf16, which one sounds the best? Does one brand sound better than the others?

Hard to say. It's hard to beat the sound on a Seeburg R. But, honestly, they all have their own special sound. You can't go wrong with any of the 70s Seeburgs, my SPS2 sound fantastic!

Quoted from catboxer:

Yes, it has Auto volume control. But I've even yanked the tube that controls it and it's about the same.
Tubes were tested and replaced as needed.

Could it be motor hum? Have you replaced the rubber motor coupler, motor support, and motor mounts?

Quoted from pinballsmith:

I picked this Seeburg SQS160 up for almost nothing (I wanted one after watching Tron Legacy again). I was surprised to learn afterwards that not many were made like the almost identical STD160. Still trying to find a Seeburg emblem for the bottom...

Search seller MFFE on eBay. Bill Butterfield has tons of old parts and may have the emblem you need. His web site is http://www.jukebox-parts.com/

Another good place for used parts is Durfee Coin Op at http://www.jukeboxparts.com
He's currently having a sale.

Quoted from Vic_Camp:

My first thoughts after buying my first pinball machine over 20 years ago was.....now I need to buy a jukebox.
At the present time I have the V-200,Rockola CD and the Seeburg R still around, but all else went to good homes.
I also had an AMI J-200 not shown in pictures.
Anyone interested in buying my nice original condition Seeburg R in last picture? It works, picks and plays all records both sides, but needs work make perfect. Comes with new gold grill cloth, repro glass instruction plates , repro lower pillar glass and full manual.

Your AMI G-200 is nice. I have many of the same jukes you've owned. One on my wish list is the G-200. Fantastic AMI horn sound and their first 200 select machine. Other AMIs I have are the H-200, I-100, Continental II and MM-6.

Just stumbled on this thread! I got into jukes and pinball on the same day back in the early eighties when I bought a Seeburg Q100 and Williams Grand Prix on the same day from an op in Clovis NM. Up to ~25 jukes now and 50+ pinballs!

Quoted from gearheaddropping:

Ok, can one of you guys educate me a bit on AMI Continentals? I know there are two versions. What else should I look for? What is a fair price for a working one?

There's two basic models, The Continental 1 and the Continental 2. The C1 was first and has 200 selections (100 records) and came in mono and stereo versions and automatic (push-button selector) and manual (selector wheel) versions.

The C2 came in Stereo/Mono Manual/Automatic selector and 100/200 selection (50/100 record) versions.

The C2 has speakers on the side and a unique crossover. Place a C2 in the corner of the room and enjoy the stereo experience without external speakers.

Quoted from Saveleaningtower:

Greetings. Hope one of you can help. Here is a picture of my dad's Seeburg V200 that I bought for him around 5 years ago for his 70th birthday. The jukebox was working flawlessly for years until recently when it would not reject a record. I was able to get it to reject with the reject button on the back but eventually that wouldn't work either. So I had a service/repairman fix it and for around 25 minutes he charged my 75 year old dad 360 dollars. When the machine failed again less than a month later, he wouldn't come back to take a look without charging the same astronomical amount so I decided to see if I could figure out the problem with the help of some friends and online groups of collectors like this one.
I love and have had many pinball machines the last 20 years. Unfortunately I know very little about jukeboxes but I am trying to learn. Anyway , here is the new problem and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
After the reject issue was resolved, the player mechanism just stopped responding to a selection. The jukebox powers up fine and everything looks right. I have the black box free play modification which lights the "Make a Selection" light. If I enter a selection, the buttons pop back out as they should but the player mechanism just doesn't move.
Now here is the strange thing - If I toggle the service switch from on to off and back to on, the player mechanism will move and play the record I selected. So the mechanism will do what it is supposed to do but I have to move the service switch to off and back to on.
I have a video of the whole issue and can share it with you if you think you can help and you message me your cell phone number.
Here is what I have done so far
I have taken the free play mod out and reconnected the credit unit. I manually put a credit on the jukebox but the same problem persists so I don't think the issue is with the free play box or the credit unit.
I disconnected and reconnected as many of the connectors as I could to see if perhaps a plug wasn't seated properly. This didn't work but I did not do the two large brown plugs because they gave me a lot of resistance when I tried to pull them out and I didn't want to rip anything apart. I did get some advice on how to squeeze the connector to get it off and will try the next time I am at my father's house.
Please let me know what you think it could be and if you are local to Clifton, NJ and wouldn't mind lending a helping hand, I can get some food and drinks as we work the problem. If you do this for a business and you are local to Northern NJ, let me know what your rates are.
Thanks, Ant[quoted image]

The 2D21 tube at V2 fires the trip solenoid. Try swapping out V2 with one of the other 2D21 tubes and see if that solves the problem. The 2D21 tube at V6 is not used (unless you have wallbox).

After Tyamry ‘s Tempest post I figured I’d show off my 120 model. Cabinet, mech and electronics were totally stripped and rebuilt about 15 years ago. The pilasters on these take a beating. I was lucky and found NOS pilasters on eBay.

I'll throw up a couple more Rockolas. I also have a Rockola 1448 like @belairjoe. I always thought it was a Seeburg R look-a-like! I also have a Rockola 1464 wallmount. This thing is a beast to hang on the wall! There was a floorstand for it back i the day, but I'm still looking for one.

The Ristaucrat S45 is another option that pops up from time to time. It’s a countertop model, but stands are available too. I think it’s easier to locate than a Williams Music Mite. Here’s mine.

Quoted from FlippinJimmy:

Hello all,
My pinball machines are lonely and need a jukebox. I have no clue what to get, how much I should spend or how hard they are to work on. Looking for some advice from this group.
Preference would be a older model that plays records. Something that was at the height of the original technology/nostalgia. Not a new Crosley or Bluetooth type machine.
Prefer records but don't know the pros/cons of record size or how hard it will be to find records to fill the machine.
Thanks for your input.

FlippinJimmy , Jukeboxes playing 45s started being replaced by CD jukes in the 80s-early 90s. The most desirable jukes are the ones with visible mechs (record changers) from the late 50s. These use tube technology, but still have great sound and fantastic looks. They started hiding the mechs in the 60s and transitioned to solid state amps. Jukes evolved through the 70s and 80s with solid state amps and microprocessors for the selection system.

Here's a good resource for jukebox model history http://www.tomszone.jukeboxhistory.info/

My recommendation... Do you want something old, reliable and simple to work on with great looks and sound? If so, then get a 50s Seeburg (222, R, V/VL-200, etc.) or AMi (H, I, J, K or Continental). I'd stay away from Wurlitzers; they have great looks, but needles are difficult to locate and IMHO they don't have the same sound as the Seeburgs and AMis. There are some Rockolas from the 50s that are nice too (1448, Tempo, Empress, etc.).

If you want something a bit more modern look at late 80s Seeburgs or Rowe/AMis. I think a Seeberg SMC1 or SMC2 would look great beside a pin! Anything in the Rowe 90 series (R-92, 93, 94) would be good too. They have a bullet proof mech/selection system and have great sound. Here's a Todd Tuckey R-94 video.

Quoted from MrMikeman:

Well I did the unthinkable. Converted a juke to MP3 (while maintaining the original look and feel). You wouldn’t know unless you opened it up. It’s a Seeburg STD2 Entertainer.
Now before slamming me consider that the juke is cosmetically so-so. Repainted using what looks like brushed on Tremclad for the black. Some chrome painted black. Most of the remaining chrome is rusted/corroded/scratched. The electronics were hacked to sh$t. Unending cut wires, splices, and electrical tape all over. Blown amp. Non functioning audio pickup(in addition to blown amp).
So here’s what I did:
I programmed an Arduino mega with MP3 shield to control my jukebox. With the programming and hook up done I need to clean up the installation and make it more “permanent” instead of jump wires all over. Then I will get to the infinity lighting. The only “non-original” behaviour is the initial bulb test when I turn it on. The volume control and skip song switch in the back are both functional.
I was worried about tackling this since last time I coded anything was 20 years ago and in C++. Never coded an Arduino before. It was fun to get rid of the cobwebs in the brain lol. I’m pretty happy with the result
I kept all lighting original (incandescent bulbs). Controlled by 2 x 16 channel relay boards. The 20 “selection playing” bulbs run on 12v(#19 bulbs). Missing 3 bulbs that I will get from a “local” operator (110 miles away lol) when I go pick up a spare semi-populated Dr Who playfield soon.
The “status panel” lights were converted to 555 running on 5v. Those were 656 wedge bulbs running on 28v before. Missing a few twist sockets (on order). I will change the text back to English and add “Please Wait” at the bottom and “Thank You” once a valid selection is made.
The scanning sound I recorded myself from the mech before I disassembled it. It’s the only thing that was semi working. Love the squeaking lol.
The juke in action:
Note that I fixed the brief flashing of “select song” prior to “please wait” since taking the video.
[quoted image][quoted image]

Nicely done! Love the scanning and proper light show.

Fun letter. Kind of interesting because the 1050 was a modern day knockoff of the 1080. It was one of Wurlitzer’s last jukeboxes. It eventually was made by the Mexican company ‘Sonata’ and called the Nostalgia 1050.

Quoted from Oldgoat:

It's a very nice box, visible mechanism and holds 100 records. I have one of the Wurlitzer comparable models (2150 the 2100 being the fancy version) with the visible mechanism and 100 record capacity. The Seeburg and the Wurlitzer 2100 tend to be highly desireable and, therefore, very pricey. I'm not that familiar with the Seeburg's abd there is somewhat of a Ford/Chevy kinda thing between the two brands. If you cut through that, it seems like the Wurlitzers are over-engineered (built like tanks, not to say the Seeburgs are fragile) while the Seeburgs sound is better (again, not to say the Wurlitzer is poor). Your best bet is to get on the Phonoland.com facebook page. There are several Seeburg experts on there that can tell you specifically what to look for.

I have both Seeburgs and Wurlitzers from the era. IMHO, the Seeburgs are a bit better sounding and more reliable. But, like Oldgoat said, its a kinda a Chevy vs Ford thing!

Quoted from goingincirclez:

I've never heard of a cassette juke until this moment. I... have so many questions. They certainly don't seem like a good idea. I can only assume it played cassette singles, right? Might be kinda neat if it would play "whatever tape is in there" for however long; I've never seen an audiocassette changer before so for a dedicated enthusiast it might hold some appeal. But gah... maintenance on vinyl jukes was bad enough, I can't imagine tapes being preferable.

Panasonic made a home use changing mech in the early seventies. They didn’t sell a lot, but they’re out there you look.

The Wurlitzer C-110 came out about the same time.

Selling a Seeburg 222 if anyone on here is interested. $3500

Great looking 222 and fair price. Has it been fully recapped?

I disagree with @sbmania. If the plating is good, the receiver/amp are re-capped and all the glass panes are intact that juke is worth ~$4K. The R is arguably the best sounding 50s Seeburg.

The R-82 is easy to work out, sounds great and super reliable. You did good!

Those 70s Seeburg are practically bulletproof and sound great.

Loved the cabinet design and the front glass assembly with the depth effect. Hated the side glass panels though....

The USC1 came out a year earlier had a different color scheme.

Quoted from goingincirclez:

Well I had all but given up hope forever ago, but a sudden random fluke-brain thought last week to "haven't searched ebay on this in a while, hmm..." turned up a lead that ended up better than I could have hoped for:
A set of nearly-new title holders for the RO 437-438-440, which were essentially unique to those models only and horrifically yellow-to-brown with exposure. And these were a matched set with the factory stamped index numbers on the edge! What's even funnier is it came from a seller whom I'd purchased from in the past, and had asked in the past yet he did not have them then. But he'd just recently dug into a deeper stash and found some parts. Amazing.
FINALLY instead of nasty opaque nicotine-skittle shitstain, my title board looks new, even when lit!
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
Maybe seeing it like this will endear these models some love. The board would normally be brighter, but I've printed my title cards mostly on thin paper so they still illuminate even *without* the UV/heat stain inducing tube directly beneath.

The title board looks amazing! Timing is everything. Congrats!

Going to be thinning the collection, still thinking about what to keep for sure but if anyone is interested, there is a beautiful original rare Stero Continental 1 with (2) Ami round external speakers & 200 select wallbox, very nice original Rockola Tempo 2 120 select with (2)Rockola external speakers & wallbox, and nice original Seeburg 201 with wallbox are all on the block.
I also have Seeburg V & VL and KD which I may keep all three and a Continental 2 200 select with wallbox that I’m on the fence but let’s say that one of this group of four will be cut loose.

Did you get any interest in any of your jukes?

Hello friends. Recently my W1900 started to have a rattle or crunching sound only when the record carrier is turning, or when the record is lifting into position. Once in position the rattle/crunch stops and the record plays as usual until the record is lowered and the carrier starts to turn again. I'm not sure if a motor is failing, or if a gear is getting fouled up. Any insight would be appreciated.

It almost sounds like you have a loose fastener someplace. Maybe on one of the shrouds.

Quoted from 29REO:

Find the black box which controls the credit settings. It’s about 1 1/2”W X 8” square. On the end is a circuit board held in by two cap screws. Take out those screws and pull out the board. Removing the board (1 1/14” X 5”) will set it to free play. Now attempt to select a song. If it selects, ok. If it doesn’t select, repeatedly and rapidly press the 1 and 2 buttons to see if you can get it to accept one of the numbers. There’s a switch on the side of the keypad. Clean the contacts by running a title strip or a coin wrapper through it. Don’t attempt to adjust it yet. Repeat trying to select a record.
If no selection occurs then find the control center. There will be a single wire that plugs into it via a mini RCA type connector. Get a D cell battery. Pull the cable, hold the positive end of the battery against the case of the control center then take the cable and touch the back (negative) end of the battery. Then plug the cable back in and then start the mech. If done correctly, this will charge the tormat unit and the mech (if working correctly) will pick up every record in the machine both front and back. This will tell you 1) if the mech is working correctly (if not, the problem is mechanical and 2) if so, if the problem is electronic. It’s been thirty some years since I’ve worked on these so I’ll have to really think about this.

Sounds like 29REO knows his stuff!

ToucanF16 Ha! My dad worked for Atlas Music in Pittsburgh which was the local Seeburg distributor and exclusively operated Seeburgs for years until he retired. I went on a LOT of service calls with him. FWIW-I have a large number of these Seeburgs that he stuffed into a container back in the 80’s and which have suffered from the weather and are likely just parts machines. They range form the SPS bandshell models, STD models up through the SMC-2. So if anyone needs any parts let me know. There is one Matador in there like Bam_Man’s and I always planned on keeping that one because I consider it the best looking model of that era.

Man, I wish you had a SMC3 in that container! I have a nice Matador. Like you, I always thought it was one of Seeburg’s best looking 70s jukes. I probably have 15 Seeburgs (mostly 50s stuff). I have a VMC1, it’s not much to look at but it sounds great and is pretty rare.

Does anyone know if there is an online discussion forum for Jukeboxes, that is active, something like Pinside? I used to belong to the Yahoo group before Yahoo killed the groups. Jukebox Addicts is not taking new registrations and seems to have gone inactive about a year ago.
I joined the Facebook groups, and those guys are great, but I find the discussion forum format easier to use and follow.

I belong to the Seeburg group on AOL.

I’d suggest a properly restored Seeburg 161, 220/222, Q/AQ, Y/AY or DS those check all of your boxes

I agree (just my opinion though). That’s the era of jukebox I’m unfamiliar with. However, some of the newer stuff maybe more reliable. The 50s/early 60s Seeburgs are mechanical with basic electronic.
They have visual mech. Sounds descent and a hard to beat are hard to beat. Clean old lube from the mech, replace caps in the app and selection receiver and you should be set for years. You’ll always be able to fix them.
