Quoted from DHVincent:

Is there a trick to installing a new cartridge on a Wurlitzer 1700? The old needle came right out, but I can't seem to get the new one to pop in.
Also, can anyone recommend someone to do a partial resto on it? DC Metro area. Thanks!

I believe the 1700 came with a Cobra. I converted my 2150 from the Cobra to ceramic (then magnetic). This is a fairly common upgrade, so I'm wondering if it could be as simple as someone having converted the cartridge and you are now trying to fit the proverbial round peg into a square hole?

is there better brands than others and what era and brand is most sturdy? I am fairly new and don't want to start off with a hopeless wreck. Looking for recommendations and what to look for.

It's a bit like asking who makes the better truck, Chevy or Ford.

I have a Wurlitzer 2150 so I may be biased; however, I think most would say that Wurlitzer's are built like a tank, to the point of being over engineered in places. That having been said, I also think most would say that Seeburg's sound better than Wurlitzer's. Then you have AMI and Rockola, which I am less familiar with. I would recommend joining (or at least browsing) the Phonoland FB group. They can provide guidance on specific models that may be more or less problematic, typical issues, etc. Plus they are extremely helpful with diagnosis, remediation, sourcing of parts, etc.

I do love my jukes, (got a few to many however)...If this Princess had to pick her favorites, It would probibally be a toss up between the Wurlitzer 412 just because of the depression era, pre war craftsmanship, or the Rockola 440 just because I have so much work into it (fire damage) and it is just so ugly it is cute.

It is still stock and untouched, my dad owned it since 1979. I am replacing like for like. Both carts look exactly the same.

Generally speaking though, the new one should just slide back in, right? Can I open the ends a bit to make it fit easier, or will that damage it?

Here is a video I found showing changing out the Cobra cartridge. But, yes, it should just slide right in.

EDIT: It works. I just found another cobra cart. Tried that one. Slid right in.

Thanks!

Will changing just the tubes improve the sound or will I need to do caps as well?

Again this is an untouched machine. It pulls records perfectly, but it sounds awful.

Both, and recommend getting paired tubes for the best sound.

Caps for sure, new tubes is probably a good idea.

Looks like a 524 amp? Bill Bickers (Jukebox Friday Night) sells both tube and cap kits. He also sells them on e-bay, I believe. I highly recommend Bill. He was a big help to me as I rebuilt and converted the amp so I'm sure he can answer any questions you may have. I fear your sound problem is gong to be with the Cobra. I remember talking to someone awhile ago that said it is almost impossible to get a 'clean' Cobra replacement.

I need a bit of help with a Wurlitzer 3100 jukebox. The tonearm cutoff/trip switch is not consistent. It works, but not at the same spot on a record. I can adjust the lever and it will work once or twice, then it won't work. It always seems like its just a tad off.

I can buy a new switch form Victory for $33 bucks plus shipping, but before I do that, I want to make sure there's not something that I'm overlooking. Thanks

I'm not really familiar with the ones on Wurlitzer - but is it a type of switch you can take apart and clean? It does sound like you have a dirty switch issue.

#361 4 years ago

This is a sealed switch - Honeywell micro, part # BZ-RW843534. I've already tried flashing the contacts, that didn't seem to help.

#362 4 years ago

Its the switch inside contact has a break and it makes contact randomly, that why it cuts out at different points on the record.

Hi all - I'm thinking about purchasing my first Jukebox for my gameroom. What do folks think about the Wurlitzer One More Time series? The one I am looking at is the 100CD version. Welcome any opinions - thanks!

Pigg3- so the bottom line is to replace the switch, right?

Quoted from Billc479:

Based on what you have described, seems like that is the solution. My assumption is plgg3 is assuming no random play/flakiness in the mounting bracket that could cause the switch itself to move (unlikely but I guess it is possible).

I really like my Wurlitzer One More Time jukeboxes. I have both versions, 50 disc and 100 disc.

The Wurlitzer is junk. Get the Antique Apparatus-it’s superior. The Rockola is fair. Not bad not great.

It really depends on availability, condition and price. I have worked on the OMT -and they seem alright. If choosing between multiple units I would put emphasis on condition of the exterior trim.

Isn’t the Rocklola label manufactured by Antique Apparatus? It might depend on when it was built.

Also NSM made a CD jukebox in the bubbler style and those are solid too, although the mech a little less interesting to watch, they to change disks a lot faster.

Whatever you do, avoid Seeburg for the classic CD bubbler. I have one and its an absolute disaster. Currently gutting the cabinet and putting in NSM guts.

could you toss a pic or two of the Seeburg mech up? I am curious.

Seeburg of Mexico is really a different company. Correction; was a different company.....

Just picked up an NSM Satellite 200-O. Anyone know where I can get schematics or manuals? Anyone know a place or person who can repair the ES power unit? S1201 and S1202 fuses blow immediately on power on.

Ebay for schematics - there are a few different ones you will need. Doing a quick google search for repair I found this place in the US http://nsmvinyljukeboxrepair.com/ Or this place in the UK https://www.nsmjukeboxrepairs.co.uk/

I used to play around with the Satellite jukes (had 2 at one point). They are very cool - Here are 2 videos I made

Sorry for the delay, for sure. Its a bit sad how a name like Seeburg ended up in the end.

So the mech is a rotisserie kind of like rowes mechs except they use a sliding tray to convey the disk to the player.

The piece de resistance is the Technics receiver used for the amp. They hacked into the main board of the reciever so the jukebox controller would make sure it was turned on and optionally switch to the FM radio when a disk was not playing.

I only ever got the juke to play once (error codes with the controller board). Disk selection and pickup was incredibly slow. Oh yeah.... considering it used just off the shelf receiver, there was no speaker transformer nor 70 volt.

Amazingly they actually used a CD Pro player which I saved... maybe I’ll also use the reciever as a garage radio, who knows. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad.

A couple more photos (closeup of the circuit board) and the manufactures badge. It appears to be Seeburg International out of Chicago.

Yeah sure does. The cabinet is a standard bubbler cabinet as only one company makes those and supplies all of the jukebox manufacturers.

So it should work out retrofitting in an NSM.

Neat, I didn't know that one company makes the cabinets. Are they still making them?

I can’t remember where I saw it, I want to say it was a TV program but could have been a deep trail of links from years ago. My understanding was that they owned a copyright for the design. I imagine they may still be since I still see the same basic design with a slightly modified door to accommodate touchtunes.

I appreciate everyone's feedback about the Wurlitzer OMT. Decided to hold off and wait for a restored late 50s Wurlitzer (ie, a 1900 or a 2000 Centennial). If anyone in the northeast has one and willing to let it go, please let me know!

You have some expensive taste.

Jokes aside I absolutely love my 2000.

If your magazine is not loaded evenly, you will put unnecessary strain on the motor(s) -
Since you're about half-full, spread out what you have in there, to help prevent burning or overheating the motors.

Thanks for that.....right now there are only 2 in there. Old ones from the 80's I couldn't let go when I purged vinyl 20 years ago.

Hey guys, I have a lead on a jukebox and was curious your thoughts. It’s a Seeburg “Happy Days” jukebox that you would hit the side of to start it (so the seller tells me). Any idea on value? It’s in a basement and is going to be brutal getting out of the house, but I feel like it has to be worth some money. It’s in very nice condition from the looks of it, but admittedly I don’t know much about jukebox’s. Thank you for any help!
