Trough optos....you can test them in the switch test also you can unscrew them and use a cell phone camera to see if all of them are on. Do a search on how to test them
Balls could also be magnetized. There is that crane magnet. Would also just do a trial of running all new balls and see if you still experience the issue. If so, it was magnetized balls, Play with the new set and good to go. If you don't have some extra/ spare balls hanging around, just take them out of another machine to run the trial. Keep us posted on your findings.
