I am hopefully buying a JD in a couple days, but the one I'm looking at needs the deadworld gear fixed. The owner told me it could be braised, but when looking around I found this thread. Does anyone that has performed the repair know what size drill bit and spring pins to use? Also how do these gearboxes come apart? i don't have the machine yet so haven't been able to lay my eyes on the gearbox.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Quoted from ChrisHibler:

I cleaned the gears up, and silver soldered the gear in place. Working fine...
You need a LOT of heat.

What did you use to heat it up?

Thank you for all the awesome replies! I will be removing it tonight

Did you end up taking your Deadworld apart and fixing it? If so what method did you use to repair it and do you have anything to share about your repair? I'm getting ready to do mine and feel I could use all the help and tips that I can get.

I fixed mine also using the pinning method. The picture is before I cut the pins flush. I learned that you use the same size drill bit as pin. I used an 1/8" pin and bit. Props and cudos to the original poster for starting this thread!
