Restore it...actually pretty fun every time you get closer to a complete machine. Take plenty of pictures, you can always reverse the process.

Yes, that Mylar is not going to be easy, you have a tough road ahead of you. The main area would be easy but it's those other delicate areas like the kick back and upper tunnel. You have to start somewhere and you have it so try it. I think it is overkill for a home machine. Just wax the playfield every few months and it will be fine.
Try pushing on some of the RAM chips on the board (machine off). Sometimes my DMD does this and all is well after.
I created mine that way. Look in this thread for measurements

Quoted from RampShot11:Update: got the problem with the buttons on the front part of the cab fixed, but the right side starburst flipper button won't light. I tried a few different bulbs that I know are working but it won't light. I'm pretty sure it functions but will not light. Anyone have a suggestion to get it lighting up again? It looks of inside.
Btw: I am officially the worst solderer in the world.
Check for voltage and continuity at the lamp with a multimeter. You may have a bad socket or broken wire. Also work on your solder skills Using flux will help you out. Also always "tin" the wire on the end and put solder on the lug. Then hold the wire to the lug and add heat with the iron.
Sounds like you need to go further up the schematic. Perhaps U19 and 20. Do you have a Logic probe? If they need replacing I would socket them.
You can always jumper another working switch over to the non working to see if it works. Then you know for sure if it is on the board.
You have done so much board work I wondering if you are securing the boards by ground. Are they secured in the backbox? Some people just test the board by not securing and immediately go for the BR and shotgun it when resets occur. Yes, it is frustrating to unscrew and test then remove again but you can lose just enough voltage to cause this.
