Trying to do some work on a Judge Dredd crane. I'm having trouble removing the top of the crane from the shaft because I don't know the right hex key size and my head is too big to get a good view. There isn't a lot of room to look at the hex key size.

The manual states it is a #8-32 but that's for the screw itself, not the key to turn it.

Does anyone know the appropriate hex key size to remove the crane?

Thanks!

Oh, here's a pic to make JD fans happy

Hi altan, I took mine apart last weekend. I do not know the key size, but it is smaller than I thought it would be. I just went into the crane test and turned the machine off mid-test so the hex key faced the inside of the cabinet. Then I could get my fat head in there to look at it. If you still need the hex key size I can look at my set and tell you later today. On a slightly different note, I could not get my crane adjusted properly. It drops the balls onto the disk as opposed to through the opto path like it's supposed to. Any insight you may have on how to adjust the crane position or magnet timing would be much appreciated.

wizard_mode,

Thanks for the offer. I also figured it out --- and forgot about this post, or else I would have written my discovery here.

There are a lot of issues that can occur with the crane. Many or old/worn parts that might need replacing. This (old) link is useful

You have probably found other info on pinside

Yes, I actually printed this page for tuning my JD crane. Thanks!
