Quoted from ChrisVW:

I didn't see this mentioned. Since this image is public I'm not breaking any NDAs

Quoted from S37VEN:

That loop da loop looks like it could be a ton of fun -- not unlike the Pinball Magic skill shot which I love.

Believe it or not it's been done. Gold Wings has a loop-de-loop shot. Bizarre machine but shockingly fun in small doses.

Quoted from John_I:

The fact that "PR" was perceived to be even the slightest problem in the big picture is disturbing enough.

Problem: all these machines are 100% sold out and paid for, but are incomplete and late beyond measure

Solution: ramp up on marketing and PR

Quoted from Cheeks:

Oh, that wasn't the answer I was expecting. Does this mean that this project could move forward without John? If so, there could still be some hope it might happen. If it needs John, no chance.

I believe (and could be wrong) having John involved was a potential 'perk' of the project, not a requirement.

JPop would have no claim to WMS code or assets either way - consulting him would be more a sales move for PPS than anything else imo. Having the original designer give input on CV/TotAN V2.0 is certainly more marketable than bringing on random coders or hobbyists to implement their vision.

Er, let me rephrase: Having the original designer give input on CV/TotAN V2.0 WAS certainly more marketable than bringing on random coders or hobbyists to implement their vision. Now, I think the opposite may hold true

I can't wait to hear the list of qualifications from the next guy who is convinced that he can walk in fix everything.
Walks on water, can shoot lasers from my eyes, encyclopedic memory, invented the internet, trillionaire, incapable of feeling pain, unlimited cell phone minutes, fun at parties...

Quoted from ccotenj:

without the "scarcity", i really doubt he could have gotten people to plunk down the SIGNIFICANT price premium these were sold at...

It's also tougher to threaten 100's or 1000's of pre-order people with NDA lawsuits after you've broken 99% of your end of the contract. Keeping it small makes it easier to bully the group.

Quoted from Strohz:

For those not following the Skit-B debacle, I thought this was an interesting read someone posted:
http://www.inc.com/eric-markowitz/when-kickstarter-investors-want-their-money-back.html
There sure are a lot of interesting parallels in it.

Full disclosure: I posted that in the Skit B thread after finding it in this thread

Still worth reading imo.

So if I follow, the solution to this mess is:
Pre-pay more cash for the same machines... for the second time... to support a business that operates on customer cash only... with no risk to the investor themselves... again

Is it too late to take pdxmonkey up on his 50 cents on the dollar offer?

I believe JPOP is offering the same 2 conversion. Bring on a bidding war!

To me, this outcome and plan reads like a casino taking you for thousands, then asking you to change a few thousand more in chips at a different casino and hit the tables just one more time and maybe, just maybe, it will all work out...

Quoted from stangbat:

Given the options of:
1) This is all some elaborate scheme John designed 4+ years ago to rake in money, pay himself a big salary and cash in, then evaporate
2) John's an idiot
I'm going with option #2.

Since we always bring up Occam's Razor, I thought I'd toss in my preferred day-to-day 'Razor' philosophy:

Hanlon's Razor:

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity

Quoted from RobT:

The way I see it, there are only 2 possibilities based on Jack's post:
1) he is worried he is going under too, so he is trying to soften people up by reminding them how many businesses go under in the first "formative years", or:
2) he is completely clueless about the message that he is sending with his post.
I prefer to think that it is number 2.

Option 1 isn't a stretch imo and it is/was always a possibility with any small company, but based on his post I doubt Jack will be clamoring to pay back pre-order customers if the walls do come crumbling down.

It seems his opinion is similar to that of JPop and SkitB in that the customers for some reason aren't entitled to their money back since they "know the risk".

Quoted from benheck:

Couldn't help but think of JPOP when I read this in a Star Citizen article:
"Games are made like houses. You want to make the foundation first and the wallpaper last. With Chris Roberts, everything is the wallpaper," CS2 added. "I think there will be a game. But it will be a shell of what was promised."
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/features/14715-CIG-Employees-Talk-Star-Citizen-and-the-State-of-the-Company

I've been catching up on this Star Citizen mess today.

http://techraptor.net/content/star-citizen-lawsuits-and-journalism-ethics

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2015/10/04/star-citizen-developer-threatens-lawsuit-against-the-escapist-demands-apology-and-retraction/

The ongoing drama surrounding Star Citizen and this latest Escapist article are following so many parallels and commonalities with SkitB and JPop its scary - and the project cost and scope are 90x larger.

Quoted from paul_8788:

Not even close to the same thing imo.

I 100% disagree that there aren't strong similarities with the JPop and SkitB fiascos, but this isn't the appropriate venue for the discussion imo, nor do I fancy wading into the Star Citizen issue - I avoided 99% of the JPop and SkitB stuff and I care less about SC.

What I will leave it at: The one glaring issue with all of these pre-order/crowdfund businesses is a complete lack of transparancy and/or honesty when things veer off the rails or go 'not according to plan'. When people start calling out these crowdfunded companies to hear about the financials, the deviation in plan, an update on delivery, ANYTING really - and they hear nothing but "never mind" - that is a problem. The only rebuttal CIG mustered (to my knowledge) so far on the latest Star Citizen drama amounts to "stfu or we'll sue you" and if the only defense they have is "Derek Smart is a douche" it won't take me long to believe they are dismissing the actual claims and concerns and are instead trying to discredit and deflect blame. I can tell you with 100% certainty that this behavior doesn't fly with shareholders who are funding the company, so why should it be ok with crowdfunding customers?

All these companies have to do is prove these claims wrong and the whiners will be silenced - it should be easy to do if the claims are false.
