Quoted from rosh:

Is there a way my pinside account can just automatically thumbs down any Kaneda posting? I know you can ignore someone, but you still see all their stupidity when others quote them.
Even better, can Robin update the site so if someone gets X amount of thumbs downs in a thread they are automatically kicked out of the thread?

hmmm... the people on my "ignore" list don't show up when quoted...

#2323 9 years ago
Quoted from rosh:

I stand corrected, I don't typically ignore people, although maybe I should be doing it more often

imo, it's a rather useful feature...

there's only a small percentage out of the couple hundred "regular posters" who irritate me... why should i let them urinate in my cereal? it is much better just to ignore that small percentage and enjoy interacting with the rest...

there is enough irritation in real life...

...or giving the ball to the best running back in the league on the 1 yard line to win the Superbowl.

personally, i thought it was a great call...

it is worth clicking on that link just to read the "job descriptions"...

#5723 9 years ago
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

Wow, good luck finding a programmer.
He would be better off trolling college recruiters for someone that doesn't know any better and will take a $45k job right out of college.

yup...

i used to be a programmer before i exited the rat race... if i had even bothered to apply after reading that job description, here's how i think that interview would go:

john: (spiel about inventing games, etc.)..
me: ok, what are the requirements for the project?
john: i have them all in my head...
me: no written design document with requirements?
john: why would you need that?
me: thanks for your time...

Quoted from frolic:

Maybe we should tell him just to ship us the cabinets and populated playfield and call it a day and we go with FAST/Mission on our own or something. Just to get this thing done. What a nightmare.
This cannot run on indefinitely, there will be a wall that will be hit at some point.

the wall was hit a long time ago... i think people have realized now that it will be impossible to get over the wall...

#5756 9 years ago

hardware and software are hard...

#5967 9 years ago

actually, it's the perfect day, if you think about it... he will get more clicks since people will assume it is fake and will click for the amusement factor...

#6016 9 years ago
Quoted from DCFAN:

There is certainly way too much of the financial risk being put on the buyer and not enough on the sellers.

hopefully, this "reverse risk" has ended with the meltdown of recent projects...

"buyers" are not investors... they shouldn't be taking ANY risk at all...

Quoted from Sjsilver:

The longer this goes on, the more damage he is doing to his reputation in the field he loves,

what possible shred of "positive reputation" could he have at this point?

also, even if by some miracle, games appear someday, are people saying "oh well, since we got a game, jpop is back to being a legend again"? really?

Quoted from jrivelli:

What if he stopped replying to all the countless contacts constantly asking him about the progress and is literally working on the game instead? Serious question

and what if the tooth fairy left a quarter under my pillow tonight?

i don't buy AT ALL any of the "too busy to respond" excuses that have been used in this thread (and the other bloodbath) for years now... that is simply laughable... "oh, i'm working SO hard i don't have time to respond to emails".... bull.... part of your job IS TO RESPOND TO EMAILS....

i am dead smack right in the middle of my busiest season of all (and yes, i AM a busy boy right now), but if i decided to not bother responding to my clients because i was "too busy", i would not have those clients for long...

and yes, it sounds silly to say i'm busy, yet have time to post on pinside... call it a mental health break throughout the day... and if i'm posting in this thread as a "mental health break", you can imagine what the rest of the day is like...

#6843 9 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

Greg pasted the email to me. He called Jpop a f*ucking nihilist, and apologized for TBL being so late, but at least they had an ethos.

can't resist...

a small collaborative effort between groups of specialists would certainly seem to have more chance of success than some guy making drawings in a studio and designing hinges from scratch...

#6935 9 years ago
Quoted from frolic:

Let's pretend that Jersey Jack bought the IP in bankruptcy and proceeded to make the machines in his factory.
Perhaps for "the good of pinball" and the goodwill he would generate, he would do something for us poor jpop'd buyers, but I don't see him just giving us all machines.

yea, i don't think jack is in the financial situation right now where he can afford a completely altruistic venture...

#7014 9 years ago
Quoted from TigerLaw:

Normally I'd redact that...but it is so pertinent I'm going to let it stay. Another mod may not agree as it does have personal identification info...however im exceedingly curious as this may blow up one major myth...that JPop's spouse is loaded and he does not need to draw a salary...

it's public information... why redact?

#7070 9 years ago

wow...

i hope that whatever group is pursuing him redoubles their effort...

#7387 9 years ago
Quoted from Goronic:

Did ZY also do the art for what little I saw of Alice in Wonderland? I think a big issue with JPOP was trying to do 3 pins at once - and not focus on MG

no... the big issue with jpop is that he had zero idea of actually how to produce a pinball machine...

like many people who "were part of projects in the past", and their name bubbled up to the top on them (not unique to pinball, true of everything), they might be VERY good at one particular part of a project, but really have no clue how their piece fits into the overall picture...

#7526 9 years ago
Quoted from zr11990:

Just an observation but to me a big mistake was to limit his games to such a low number. The design and software is the same and the more you make the cheaper each part becomes. Find someone willing to buy his work raise the number of games to as many as can be sold and build them. When it is over give the original people some of their money back. Easier said than done but still.

without the "scarcity", i really doubt he could have gotten people to plunk down the SIGNIFICANT price premium these were sold at...

#7530 9 years ago
Quoted from frolic:

The scarcity is what drove the sales. Otherwise why not wait? But that wouldn't generate a million in seed money.

yup... i agree with that as well...

#7566 9 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

I've also been told that I'm an "opinionated bastard".

that's one of the things i like best about you...
