In my opinion these games are not any more "finished" than what was shown at the Seattle show when one was there. Lots of stuff not in the game, lots not connected, lots not programmed.

Add to that, again IMHO, American Pinball has done a great job putting together their first pinball build, but really need a lot more pinball building under their belt. Or, at least someone with a lot of experience to help guide them. Lots of miswired switches, incorrectly wired coils, etc.

I seriously doubt any of these games will play, even to their current level of completeness, without lots of tweaking and correcting of assembly mistakes.

A box of pretty lights is better than a box of air. Kudos definitely go to everyone involved in getting owners their games. I'm very happy to finally have mine.

I think if applejuice is willing to continue with programming, a decent game can be made.

Right now it's a beautiful piece of artwork, and a gorgeous piece of pinball history, with one hell of a story to go along with it.

Quoted from alveolus:

Wait! Rob, you have Magic Girl?!
When will we see you build this thing back to complete?

I'm happy to help get this to where it needs to be anyway I can. Without the software though, anything else is pointless.

That's always been my number one concern from day one with John. His games aren't the deepest, none of them. Creating something with longevity seemed to me to be the biggest hurdle.

If applejuice can make progress on the code, I'm grateful, and will contribute any way I can.

Quoted from Mr68:

Benchmark price on a sold Magic Girl is currently $23,000.00

I know of three sales personally. This is by far the low end.

The simple fact is there are far more people with more money than they can spend, than there are MG games. Only around 20 games exist, there will always be more people that would like it in their game room, for whatever reason, than there are games to go around.

Like it or hate it, Magic Girl is part of pinball history.

Also to be clear, mine is not for sale.

I do have a friend that is thinking about letting his go though. Still in the box. Can connect if anyone is interested.

I think most people are forgetting that most MG buyers are also in on at least one of the other games. It's still not over for most of us.

When I first signed on, I couldn't have been more excited about the prospect of having a new JPop game in my collection.

That went to crazy feelings of regret, idiocy, and deep sadness when things went to crap. I buried my head in the sand and wanted to read or hear nothing about all the negative goings-on. To the point that when Zombie-Yeti graciously offered some of his art to the buyers, I wanted nothing to do with it. I didn't want a reminder of how I'd been so screwed and stupid, hanging on my wall.

When Bill stepped in and it looked like things were going to get done, I got optimistic again. That quickly turned back to burying my head in the sand again when it fell apart.

Another round of the same when American Pinball came on the scene and then showed a dead playfield on a table for their Expo reveal of Houdini and promises of delivering MGs there came up empty.

This has been a crazy ride, and actually having a game in my collection after all of this isn't the negative reminder that some keep bringing up. It's vindication that not everything bad has to stay bad.

It may not be the game that I thought it could or would be, but it's better than the empty space and horrible feelings that were there before.

And, there's hope for the future of MG with the possibility of more complete code. Even the possibility of RAZA and AiW getting done is there. May not be very likely, but there are several times over the past few years when I thought seeing a Magic Girl in my living room wasn't even remotely possible.

Some facts...

The light boards are indeed GLM design.

The driver board is from another long time board designer that is still due for work and product. This board has been re-labeled with the American Pinball name. Not sure exactly how they came to the conclusion it was their board to label.

Prototype games were limited to three. They were built long before the "production" games. They have different art work on the cabinet, interactive backglass, most of the assemblies that were removed from the "production" games, and most of the metal parts are the stainless steel that JPop was obsessed with.

For their first game build, I feel American Pinball did a great job. Far from perfect with many miswired switches and coils, but nothing that can't be corrected with a bit more time and experience building pinball.

Build quality is top notch. Better than some manufacturers that have built many multiples more than AP.

It will be interesting to see what they show at TPF with the newly designed Houdini.
