When JPop is such a mid-class Designer of som B-games, how come people actually gave him any money?

And if you give money to somebody how exaktly is that money 'stolen'?

It's not like he ran off with it, the money is gone because he is just an illusionist with no business capabilitys at all,... wich is common for many artists, wich I indeed think JPop kinda is... and a sissy.

That doesnt excuse anything and no I don't wanna say that it's your own fault for throwing money at him. I myself would have done so, if I had that amount. So I woud be pissed as well but there is only one way to get your money back and that is if JPop has it. You can't pickpocket a naked man. For that you should wish him the best of luck that he is indeed designing this other pinball game an gets tons of money for it.

Quoted from rai:

But he did have a contract and he didn't deliver jack shit. That's a breach of contract. And so John is not entitled to keep the money.

Of course you are correct, I just refered to "robbery". And yes, he can't keep the money but he can't give it back either... because he isn't keeping it. It's just gone.

So as said earlier, the people who lost money in this should hope for him that he gets any.

I personally -if in his shoes- would still see some possibilitys to get this game made in one way or another, but JPop allready made clear that he is not capable of doing any business decisions, that he is not willing to do any compromise to his personal beliefs in favor of his customers and kinda blames everone but himself.

Uh,... KISS? Ok, just HOW MANY PINBALLS did this man announce while not finishing ONE?! o.O;

Quoted from goatdan:

I follow this thread with some sort of morbid curiosity, but this made me think...

Honestly, if John could have had a secondary person whose job it was to run the business side of things and keep his dreaming in line, I wonder how things would have worked out. From my limited interactions with John from the MGC, and as I've stated before, I don't believe that he was trying to be a criminal mastermind or steal everyone's money - he really believed his ideas that he had could be created and would be better than anything that came along before. And perhaps he was right, but we'll never know because his business acumen was so bad (or non-existent) that he was never going to get anywhere.
Walt Disney was a huge dreamer too and went bankrupt multiple times. It wasn't until his brother Roy came in and ran the business side and corralled his brother's ambition into a way facing forward that Walt's dreams started to be a success.
From having seen John's ideas for things, he was a wealth of pinball ideas, but he kept coming up with small ones that ultimately didn't mesh. If he had someone nearby who when he would stop working on Magic Girl to figure out the new lighting system for KISS (which was cool) who could have said, "Knock that off or do it when you're not here, we need to finish this!" and who could have coordinated the building of the machines, I actually do think that it would have worked and could have been great.
But... we'll never know, sadly. Dreamers don't make good businessmen.

That woudn't have worked out. Dreamers aren't made for self-employment and if it would still be his company, he would call the shots at the end after all. He had the opportunity with Stern that made him an offer helping him out and he neglected out of pride.

Quoted from pinballrockstar:

I really thought you guys would have taken over his house or something by now, in the Netherlands we still stone people for shit like this.

In the Netherlands you make people stoned, yes.

Quoted from frolic:

still the same tell-tale hand coded html from John featuring 90s style tables.

Best way to make a website that is running 100% stable everywhere and superfast.

Quoted from Jjsmooth:

All people who lost $ should be given front row seats.

Why, they can see him in court all they want.

Front row should be for JPop Fan Club.

Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

Even if it allowed 100 people in the room...

Watching those seminars there's usually not a lot of people in the audience and even if some people come especially to see JPop (in bad terms) I hope they can behave and not riot onto the stage.

The situation is seriously... 'special' and I am intrigued to see how Deeproot and JPop himself wants to adress this. (And how Magic Girl turns out to be honest.)

Quoted from frolic:

Will make for a toxic seminar, but we all knew that.

While you're propably right, we'll see...

I definately would'nt use past tense yet.

I just got in the hobby (through TotAN on Pinball Arcade) when I luckily „missed the opportunity“ to preorder Magicgirl.

If Dutch is making it, it will eventually be readily available at distributors, so I‘m looking forward to it.

Quoted from Sorokyl:

Uh huh. You know they've only made one game ever, and in the 10 years they've been making it, it's never been available to order at distributors? After 10 years, currently a 12 month queue I heard they other day....but sure let's start a second company and get 4 more games going, even though one of them(BTTF) could keep us busy another 10 years..

TBL is in stock at distributors here and I live one hour or so from the DP factory, so I‘m confident I‘ll get to see one eventually… just not ‚soonish‘, but hopefully less then 10 years.

Just sayin‘ I‘d give it a try when I get to see one. (No preorder whatsoever.)

#24505 19 days ago
Quoted from fosaisu:

That's pretty amazing given the ~14 month wait from deposit to delivery for US customers ordering TBL!

I‘d guess it‘s because they propably have to fill up a whole container to ship overseas.

Easier to deliver 1 or 2 machines to the surrounding area.
