I bet that's part of the disconnect. In his mind working 24/7 7 days a week should prove he is doing good. He does not get spinning wheels even all the time and at your hardest does not still mean results are happening.

I know for fact he's not working all the time, he's posting pictures of his dog, how does that constitute working?
I think the Expo was the tipping point, but the dog picture was the straw that broke the camels back (for me).
I'm sure a lot of people on here work a lot (maybe more than John). It's kind of a slap in the face by him saying he works so hard, as if I don't? I worked extra shifts and weekends in order to afford to send John my money. I'm sure others have too.
That's not his dog.
If you click and drag the photo into Google Image Search, it's from a site about "Unfortunate Animal Patterns" (Yes Google Image Search works in reverse too)
Siting in a work shop shaking hands with the unemployed to Brazilian fart porn doesn't constitute working.
Maybe he needs to stay away from the work shop for a day or two a week and work more efficiently rather then harder.
Anyone know how many are in his team or is it a captain and sailor in one ship?
Quoted from FatAussieBogan:Siting in a work shop shaking hands with the unemployed to Brazilian fart porn doesn't constitute working
^WTF^
Quoted from benheck:Ah! I see.
Carry on then!
Lol that's why I posted it... It looks like his dog and fit the situation well. Lol sorry Ben

A classic bit of Australian folk wisdom, featured in Crocodile Dundee II if I'm not mistaken.
VINCENT: What do you think about what happened to Antwan?
MIA: Who's Antwan?
VINCENT: Tony Rocky Horror.
MIA: He fell out of a window.
VINCENT: That's one way to say it. Another way is, he was thrown out. Another way is, he was thrown out by Marsellus. And even another way is, he was thrown out of a window by Marsellus because of you.
MIA: A husband being protective of his wife is one thing. A husband almost killing another man for touching his wife's feet is something else.
VINCENT: But did it happen?
MIA: The only thing Antwan ever touched of mine was my hand, when he shook it. I met Antwan once -- at my wedding -- then never again. The truth is, nobody knows why Marsellus tossed Tony Rocky Horror out of that window except Marsellus and Tony Rocky Horror. But when you scamps get together, you're worse than a sewing circle.
This thread is pretty brutal. All I can say (after skimming some posts, NOT reading thru everything!) is to hold onto your hats for a very short while. Yes, John and his colleagues have been doing a LOT behind the scenes. Yes, he does spend most of his waking hours laboring at this pinball stuff, and progressing on everything from parts designs and orders to artwork to designing cool layouts and toys, to, well, making great pinball.
And, I have it on good word that a lot of this will be made public soon, and it will be awesome. JPOP is realizing there's no strong reason to keep things under tight wraps at this stage, and the negativity here is discouraging. So, hold onto your hats a bit longer--you may be happy you did. Games are closer to being done than many folks think. And, they'll be done right. (OK, there's always a possibility that software updates may carry on for a bit, but... )

So everyone will rejoice when he shows a working playing magic girl game.. Then he still has to come up with more money to pay the vendors off he owes.. And produce them.. Maybe more people will go oooo and aaaa and throw cash at him

I keep thinking that this is right and I hope it will be. The problem for me is that this sticking the head in the sand reaction when there is trouble gives me no confidence in JPOP supporting the machines in the future.
Quoted from boo32:I keep thinking that this is right and I hope it will be. The problem for me is that this sticking the head in the sand reaction when there is trouble gives me no confidence in JPOP supporting the machines in the future.
He's shifting his approach, it seems, and the foundation for making more titles is in place. My sense is he takes the criticism very personally. As he does the quality of his game designs. This is the huge learning curve that is a challenge for any new pinball maker. His 'trouble' is not much different than what we've seen from JJP and others. I think you all will see these games pretty soon, and they will be made.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not speaking officially for JPOP or anyone else but myself here, based on some general info I do have.
So why aren't we, the owners, privy to this same information that you have StevenP? It seems like a reasonable request on our part.

Appreciate your thoughts Steven! This thread could certainly use some positive input.
Quoted from StevenP:So, hold onto your hats a bit longer--you may be happy you did.
I don't see any actual answers or reasons in your post as to why people should continue waiting.
I think he's gotten enough faith at this point and burned it all up. Time to just come up with some facts.
Quoted from Concretehardt:Appreciate your thoughts Steven! This thread could certainly use some positive input.
I don't think it's too much to expect some of that input to come from Jpop. If he takes all the criticism so personally, what gives with the reluctance to address the concerns? It just invites more criticism.
Quoted from StevenP:He's shifting his approach
Can you please expand on this?
Quoted from StevenP:the foundation for making more titles is in place.
This makes me even more leery of his ability to focus on the task (or three) that he needs to desperately complete.
Quoted from StevenP:My sense is he takes the criticism very personally.
John could have avoided nearly all of the criticism that he is now facing by simply communicating with his owners.
Quoted from StevenP:His 'trouble' is not much different than what we've seen from JJP and others.
If his "trouble" is anything akin to what JJP has faced then there is surely more to come. JJP faced most of there challenges and criticism during the production phase, which John seems nowhere near.
Quoted from StevenP:I think you all will see these games pretty soon
Big deal! When are we going to see John face his owners and tell the plain and simple truth about what he has done with their money and when and if we can expect to have the games we have paid for? Because seeing a prototype is near the top of the list of things that need to happen to accomplish shipping a completed game.
Quoted from jazzmaster:John could have avoided nearly all of the criticism that he is now facing by simply communicating with his owners.
It's as simple as this.
Quoted from StevenP:He's shifting his approach, it seems, and the foundation for making more titles is in place.
He hasn't made one title. I'm not sure if you realize this but people have been "holding onto their hats" for about 2 years longer than they expected. If you have some general info that actually legitimizes your opinion and actually want to help, either state it plainly or you are part of the problem.
StevenP
Much hope you are right, as you said JJP and Skit-B have same/similar issues, but I was seeing Woz and Predator working prototypes 18 months before release, John is not even at that early stage.
Maybe he's planning a Stern type release, totally finished game. I doubt it, my gut says RAZA is still many months from done.
Say what you want but he's totally behind schedule and needs to refund people he's in total breach of contract and refuses to refund Several people.
I may not have wanted a refund if he was showing progress he said he had a prototype for expo but didn't bring it because he didn't have a booth .
He said he was working on a photo tour for us owners but he hasn't shown anything
He said he would have a RAZA major reveal first week of January
I have an idea for his next pin
Quoted from lllvjr:Can't refund money he doesn't have
What makes you think he's broke?
I still owe money on my games.
Quoted from boo32:So why aren't we, the owners, privy to this same information that you have StevenP? It seems like a reasonable request on our part.
I've been discussing the situation with him recently, and suggesting to him that it is time to open the doors, so to speak. Yep, it's a reasonable request. This whole boutique pinball development thing is new for him, and my best guess is he wants to keep everyone happy and maybe had some vaporlock as things progressed, took longer than expected, and criticism started piling up.
Quoted from Concretehardt:Appreciate your thoughts Steven! This thread could certainly use some positive input.
That's the only reason I posted here, for the moment--you will see a lot of the things you've been waiting for very soon.
Quoted from jazzmaster:This makes me even more leery of his ability to focus on the task (or three) that he needs to desperately complete.

Agree that much of this could have been avoided, and it seems simple, but we all have our strengths and weaknesses. John seems to take his development work seriously and personally, and maybe got overwhelmed by all the extra customer issues? I know for a fact he is NOT trying to rip anyone off and still on track to complete and ship games. He's much closer to production than people here seem to think. I thought his policy was to let people visit or call him directly with questions--not sure when/if/why that fell apart. But he is regrouping to get on top of communications etc., although he's also working full-time to get these 2 titles finalized and out the door.
I'm gonna let John's work speak for itself now. I would ask folks to give the guy a break, at least for a few weeks or so until he gets to show his stuff--he does take criticism and complaints very personally, and he has been putting more time focused on all aspects of these games than you might imagine. 12 hours in the workshop is a short day for him. If you've hung in this long (and yes, it's longer than initially stated and expected!), a couple more weeks won't make or break anything, right? He's not going to disappear, and you will be seeing a new level in pinball machines.
Imagine if JPOP had complete control of the design of a pinball machine from the feet up, with no short schedule or restrictive budget. Well, you won't have to imagine for much longer.
Quoted from StevenP:Imagine if JPOP had complete control of the design of a pinball machine from the feet up, with no short schedule
That's the entire problem. Nobody has to "imagine" anything.
Quoted from StevenP:you will see a lot of the things you've been waiting for very soon.
-Answering our questions?
-Time table?
-Production schedule?
-Road map?
That's what we've been waiting for.
StevenP why do you have privileged access to information others(not myself) are desperate and entitled to know but are being deliberately denied?
Quoted from StevenP:That's the only reason I posted here, for the moment--you will see a lot of the things you've been waiting for very soon.
I remember being stoked about these games.. hopefully 'very soon' isn't the same one the nucore guys were using a year or two ago about their re-release... cool pin stuff would be much better sooner than later.
I'd be wary of any 'timetable' by John.
His first 'timetable' had the games shipping one year ago.
He said the first week of January would be a huge reveal of RAZA. It's past that date.
So let's pretend john comes out and says he'll be shipping the darn pins starting 14 - 20 months from today.
How can we trust him? he can't even keep a promise to reveal somethig by the first week of January, why did he even say that knowng he wasn't going to reveal anything?
Why did he say he was going to bring something to Expo when he didn't and when people understandbly went ape on him he said it was because he didn't have a booth and there would be a very nice reveal of MG in Dec and a virtual shop visit would be posted for us who can't visit?
Quoted from rai:That's speculation.
He owes vendors money... More then one... Yes it's speculation...
its frustrating for damn sure. lots of cash i could use elsewhere tied up with this. we need some progress and more info on the progress. i could have a mustang, star trek with unfinished code right now wait.... nevermind.... get this s**t on track John!!!!
Quoted from StevenP:Agree that much of this could have been avoided, and it seems simple, but we all have our strengths and weaknesses. John seems to take his development work seriously and personally,
Very true! And I don't think anyone here has ever questioned John's passion for pinball. I, for one, still believe that he is pouring his heart and soul into these projects. I have often heard artists, mostly painters, say that if it were not for hard stop deadlines placed on them by gallery showings that they would never complete anything. Just tinker with it forever. I think John is caught up in this predicament to a certain degree. Hopefully he is at the realization point of seeing that he to has a hard stop deadline and that some things are just going to have to be good enough.
Quoted from StevenP:He's much closer to production than people here seem to think.
While I don't get the impression that you are John's official mouthpiece, you do seem to have some insider knowledge and I wonder if you could expand on the above statement. Most people here seem to believe that we are waiting on a flipping prototype of both MG and RAZA. But your statement seems to suggest that John will reveal games ready for production with completed dots/animation and a full rule set with completed code. In my mind, this is the only way that you can make a statement like the one above. Any additional insight that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Great. Now I've herniated myself laughing.
Waiting all this time, to see the full art package, but a basic flipping game, is probably about the best we can hope for. What that means as far as delivery of finished games is what we've been asking about and it is doubtful will be addressed at all with the "reveal".

Ya he's going to show something soon as to a working game... But if he's starting to build mg in March there's still no schedule how long it will take to get all the parts, go through the issues in the build process and wether or not he intends to get the game ul tested
That's still all up in the air on how many he has to build to have the cash to make them all... On mg anyway.. Forget raza that's more then a year away for sure?

I can't even believe the UL testing would even be on the radar at this point, for 17, or 50, or whatever games. That would seriously blow my mind. At least the patent stuff I can sorta see, but that seems like lighting your money on fire.

Yes... It's very costly and can last a long time... I don't know what requirements would be needed if he can avoid it or not... Hopefully he legally can avoid it
The other thing he may have a issue is proving the game is rohs complaint. If not he's not shipping any to buyers over seas.
Add me to the list of folks who have sent JPOP an email seeking a refund. I hopped in on AIW a year ago. So wanted to see that game get made, but I've no faith that we will ever see that title from him.
I'm figuring that if I don't receive the refund within a month, I'll file a Complaint in small claims court (or whatever the equivalent is in IL). That will get his attention.

Crazy can't believe no refund on a game that's got nothing other then vapor ware art work done
From what I have heard in my conversations with John, StevenP is correct. At least from what John has told me.
I can say that I have conveyed the concerns to him personally, for what that is worth. While he seems to think that no news is good news, I tried to explain to him that this is not the case for the owners from my readings. I also explained that no matter how small something may seem, it would be goof to let those in on the project what is being done. Maybe not daily, but a weekly update or something like that. COMMUNICATION is the key here.
Hopefully in a short time, the owners at least will get more information.
Chris

I am not an expert on UL listing but, from what I understand, it may be difficult for JPOP to carry liability insurance if his product does not have it. Which I would believe he would want just to protect himself from a claim if one of his machines were proven to be the cause of a fire or worse.
Quoted from lllvjr:Crazy can't believe no refund on a game that's got nothing other then vapor ware art work done
Well, I just sent the request today, so it's not so crazy that I haven't received it yet.
Quoted from StevenP:All I can say (after skimming some posts, NOT reading thru everything!) is to hold onto your hats for a very short while.
I'm not sure how you can preach patience here like it's something they don't have. I think the customers deserve a gold medal for patience by now.
