I am not physically involved, but I know one of the people making parts. Its only up from here.

Ah, great, guess I misread the Cointaker posts about him not getting his calls returned.

Must have misread GLM as well, about not getting invoices paid.

And the programmer guy who didn't get paid and no longer works for John, must be mistaken.

Glad to hear it's only up from here.

It's up something at this point already. If you are not directly involved it's a fairly bold statement to say it's all unicorns and rainbows from here out.

I know at least 2000 posts on Skit-B were boobs.
I think, I'm done posting here until we hear more from John or his attorneys. Maybe once those ramps are installed he'll have a be able to do a Labowski reveal.
Xmen thread has 9600 posts and 193 pages.

Long live the King! 11,567 posts (and counting) and 232 pages.

You forgot "yet".

Quoted from metallik:

Needs left orbit rules reworked to be less lucrative

This wouldn't change a thing, because all the points in TOTAN come from the lamp and bonus (when not exploiting HAREM bugs). This game was designed for beginners and the rules are just awful. 70K for mode shots when one can get 10M in bonus just by racking up spins and shooting the captive balls?

It's a simple points tweak. The rules are there.

#8407 8 years ago
Quoted from Pimp77:

The "rules" that require you to make all of 2 shots each to finish 4 of the jewel modes?

The "rules" surrounding the most basic main multiball ever in a WPC game?

The "rules" that let you play genie battle forever, scoring all the way?

The "rules" that make the left orbit only ever worth one award at a time?

Yea, great rules.... most system11 games outplay this turd turd.gifturd.gif

These complaints sound logical, but at the end of the day - most people just have fun playing Tom/TOTAN/CV and these complaints don't enter their minds while playing. If the rules were truly obviously horrible, these games wouldn't hold their value or be desired. You're right - there is no reason to shoot the "SPIN" loop around the Ringmaster's head once you've collected it...but sometimes I do it by accident...bad aim to the Ringmaster's head results in a loop shot...and that loop shot still feels good and I like that it whips back at me for another shot. I've never thought of the rules being bad due to that shot having limited purpose.

I think some games have universally reviled rules....and some like these only bother a small segment of people. If these games aren't making everyone say "THEY SUUUUCK!", then these games are doing ~something~ right.

Apples and oranges, I think. Metallik was talking about TOTAN, and you're talking about CV.

He and others have been saying TOTAN/TOM/CV are lacking in the code dept and become boring. I quoted the most recent post, but I was also commenting on an earlier point.

#8411 8 years ago

Understood. The loop comment was confusing, but I agree with your broader points.

To me making vague, ambiguous posts like this when you apparently know more is only slightly less douchey than what JPOP is doing. There are people in this thread with thousands on the line. Have some respect for them. If you know something say it. You aren't under an NDA. But I'm sure you'll have some BS excuse why you must remain quiet.

ALL easy fixes. The basic framework is there.

Quoted from Ronnie1114:

Not the case with this guy, he hasn't had any problems with Jpop.

He's been only "working with John" for 10 minutes, give it another day or two, it's a GIVEN.

And I'm calling total BS, SkitB made parts, putting it all together, sourcing what you need for such a small run and then programming it, wake me up if it ever gets to that point. Otherwise, don't care about the tinkering nonsense.

Yep, LONG way to go if ever. A waste of about 3 1/2 years to be sure, with about 1/2 year of productivity.

Plus, the idea that shit is happening and John is not updating the blog like he promised a couple of weeks ago is a JOKE!

F that!!! Back to secrecy mode, nope, I don't buy it, its all BS. John, tell your customers what is going on or just go away please.

#8415 8 years ago
Quoted from wcbrandes:

Guys there are basically three parts to creating a great machine. when you take Jpops previous games all I look at is layout, original concept design and art and finish.

Bingo Bill, why do people think Steve Ritchie codes his games as well! Oh wait, he's got Lyman.

And I doubt John and crew were responsible for the "code" on any of those top games he developed, that was somebody else's department, in fact all you have to do is look at the credits.

The last time someone showed up in this thread promising that things were gonna be awesome and just be patient, not only was he full of shit, he ended up banned from the thread (twice).

Either show some hard proof, or just keep it to yourself, no one wants to hear vague platitudes and reassurances.

#8417 8 years ago

No it's official Jpop is a BUM and thief that's stole my money. Just incase anyone needed an update. BUM!

Btw, can you please get to work on making Alien artwork awesome so it will take some of the sting out this fiasco! Thanks Aurich

"The really good news is that I have created a super nice ramp system to work with our games. I am also able to fit in some new lighting for the playfield. I have been resisting just dropping in 2 plastic ramps as other folks do. That was good 15 years ago, time for innovation. We will try to get the patent app on this submitted in the next few months. Back to work! Jpop "

The lies are endless Tiger.

I believe that Jpop set out to take our $$$ and live off it for as long as he could for his own benefit, knowing full well that he was BS ing us for at least the last two years.

Disgusting.

"We did a quick trailer with a new agency on Seattle for BHZA. turned out well so they will be jumping on magic girl visuals starting soon and we will create a trailer.

One more thing, as Steve Jobs would say.

Great news, super legendary pinball designer John Trudeau has joined our team to assist in everything pinball design as well. That’s right JT and JP!"

Btw Quantum was never contracted to do a video for MG either. So that's a lie within a lie. LIECEPTION.

Cointaker updated on the raza blog that he still hasn't heard from john.

He also mentioned he had texted John's old # by accident, and the new owner of the phone texted him back, so Chris told him to google "John Popaduik and Zidware" and the guy responded back saying "Sounds like it should be a episode on “American Greed”. "

That's how badly jpop has ruined his reputation, some stranger can google his name now and instantly comes back with that impression.

Not so sure about that, if you google by his name you really have to dig to find dirt, the fact that everyone is using the abbreviation JPOP is to his advantage. I suggest from now on people use his full name so it's easier for people to research his reputation in the future.

Glad to see Pinside has updated the dates for John's pins, it pissed me off to see these games listed as 2013.

It would be cool to see the years x'ed out as they pass 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 etc..

You don't need to wait on patent approval to build, that's why people always use the term "patent pending". Just an FYI

I think you nailed it with "most people just have fun playing Tom/TOTAN/CV and these complaints don't enter their minds while playing." I'm in love with those games. Just Totan, my god, it's so beautiful. The theme, the colors, the music, my cute custom genie lamp on top of the back box that I secretly rub and make wishes to. Just the music alone I can listen to all day; the giggles of the woman when you sneak into the tent for totan, or when you get the Highwire Multiball / Ringmaster Frenzie. I just enjoy the games too much to be picky about the rules.

You just described myself in 2002 (minus the topper), a couple years after I'd gotten TOTAN and back when I still enjoyed playing it. As you said, beautiful light show and great music. For some people, simple games are all they need. 12 years ago, that was good enough for me. Since then, I've found so many more, better-playing machines, that I don't see the point in just banging the ball around and shooting shots just to see them whip back at me, so to speak.

Interesting, we all evolve in this hobby and who knows, I might have the same view as you in 5 years from now. Do you mind sharing which games do it for you now? Am curious to see if I played any of them.

#8434 8 years ago

I played Totan last night, and I was reminded why I wanted these games so bad. Those ramps are hella fun.

A real shame this has played out the way it has.

#8435 8 years ago

All of you get together, go to his shop and take everything that has to do with Magic girl.

Quoted from nintendo:

Current games: WOZ, Metallica, STLE... all relatively new, fresh and deep rulesets; all still unbeaten (I have not gotten to Enterprise Amok/5YM, End of Line or SOTR). I'm also digging some older games like Nineball, Big Game and Quick Draw. If you're going to bang a ball around, might as well do it on an EM where you can learn subtle shots like nicking the uppermost droptarget and rebounding the ball into the opposite-side kickout hole

Iron Man, Tron and BBH provide fast, challenging games that don't last a long time. I like Breakshot for its combination of DMD speed and EM gameplay. Pinball Magic is a great game for precision shotmaking... you can progress very quickly if you're on your game, and the tricks get harder the further you get. Jackbot is very tough to keep balls alive on for any length of time, and provides nice risk/reward with Casino Run. And then of course, the ultimate risk/reward game.. ACDC and its "holy f*ck I can't believe I just missed a 300M song jackpot%@#$^$!"

#8437 8 years ago
Quoted from metallik:

Current games:

I am strong believer in variety in a collection, deep games, fast games, flow games, slow games. I like having a game or two that are fun and fast but don't require a lot of thinking/strategy (like BK2K -- which I miss, and I need to add a sys11 game back into my collection), and I like games that really make you think and strategize like TSPP. I like having an EM for its style of play and the mid-80s games have their desirable attributes as well. Nice to have games that have a wizard mode or major goal that is achievable on a occasion (e.g. whitewater, TZ, STTNG, etc.) vs being almost impossible to achieve (TSPP -- several time have completed 5 of the 6 big objectives, but I just can't seem to ever get the five super jackpots)

I don't have a TOM/TOTAN/CV but I can certainly see how one of those would be a nice fit in decent size collection, they do have their redeeming values. I did have a WCS94, and that fits into the 'don't have to think too much' category, but is a fun game with an achievable and rewarding wizard mode (although not sure you can really call it a wizard mode), and it is great for kids (they like to shoot for the goal).

To me the JPop games are like my Scared Stiff. Fun to own, great to look at, really nice packages, but not really big on deep play. If you own enough games or are a really casual player then they work out just fine. In a smaller collection it can be tough, because they don't really provide enough challenge.

Sure, you can skip wishing away jewels, but that kind of thing gets old when you play it a lot, you don't want to feel like you're avoiding playing the game the way it's offering things to you.

Well there ya go - keep in mind people have jumped into pinball at different times. If I was playing pinball in 2002, I'm sure I'd be bored of everything. I probably never played a TOTAN until 2009, and I've never owned one. I've had ToM for a few years, CV since '09 I think? Granted, I barely play CV anymore - so maybe I *am* bored of it lol...but, it still has a place in my collection. Presentation is a big part of code...and I really enjoy "the world" of TOM and CV. Of course the rules aren't crazy nuanced as Met or AC/DC - that's doesn't make them bad, though. I'll play Met and AC/DC when I wanna give my brain a workout...CV when I just want some simple fun. I'd rather play a slick simple game that knows what it is than a "deep" game like STLE that lacks a cohesive creative vision.

Quoted from rosh:

Yep, I agree. I forgot to mention TSPP and LOTR in my post - I have both of those, along with WOZ, and enjoy their deep rules and long gametimes. Sometimes. Other times I want fast and brutal.

One thing though, if I'm in the mood for a more simple game, I prefer to play one with an interesting playfield. TOTAN is a simple game but isn't very interesting to shoot. OTOH, Nine Ball is simple but provides a more unique playfield layout and nifty rebound opportunities. CV *could* be better if the software simply used all the shots more effectively.
