I personally like the mystery surrounding the production process of JPOP's work. It's something refreshing in this effin' Facebook tell all internet atmosphere. As if everything is supposed as upfront and fake as reality television these days. JPOP really does seem a bit mad with how it appears he's going about certain things, but hell that's the way genius always is it seems~

"Never let things be seen half finished: They can only be enjoyed when complete. All beginnings are misshapen, and this deformity sticks in the imagination. The recollection of having seen a thing imperfect disturbs our enjoyment of it when completed ... Let each great master take care not to let his work be seen in its embryonic stages – they might take this lesson from Mother Nature, who never brings the child to the light until it is fit to be seen." - Balthasar Gracian

60 Magic Girls ain't shit. Come on now.

JPop should produce far more than that. Even if there needed to be some exclusivity with this pin you could have that with 500 made. They should cost 12K with partial refunds of course to those that paid more. To the original buyers bitching about more games being produced they should definitely be rewarded with something special added on top of the rest of the machines, like a rare alternate translite and cabinet art.

Zombie Adventureland needs to get bumped up too. Make that a cool 1000 units.

#255 5 years ago
Quoted from Pimp77:

Want to wait years when production starts...it might take years to crank out 60!

Well obviously when you are dealing with these games its a very patient endeavor. The trade off is getting a one of a kind machine right? If you need something fast go get a goddamn Stern. I'm sure The Walking Dead is going to be a work of blazing originality... I'm so sure...

#258 5 years ago

Yeah, extra production of these games should get contracted out. If Jersey Jack can start getting their production problems in order it should definitely be them.

Charging 17K for 60 machines whose after market price is going to shoot through the roof right after release is just stupid. And only so many people are even going to be able to play the darn thing. It's just a bad idea.

Remember when JPop was referred to by some douche as "Jay Pop A Boner"? I was like WTF? This ain't no John Holmes. This is John Popadiuk!!

#307 5 years ago

Negative Nancys. JPop is going to come through in spades. I'm sure he just doesn't want his ideas to be replicated. So limited showings until closer to full release.

#313 5 years ago

Pinball 3000... yep, that's the big secret

#374 5 years ago

Yes, dig the blue alien chick much more than the obvious Attack from Mars similarities..
Nice to have hand drawn art, but am I the only one that doesn't think the BG is way too pink, very busy and actually ugly? (I can't stand the artwork on CV BTW.. mainly because of the similar intense color scheme)...

I think both cabinets are awesome, especially the Blue Alien Chick one. But I agree, that backglass is not blowing me away. Like you said might be the use of colors.

#377 5 years ago

Well Attack from Mars in this day in age is "Retro" right? and this is Retro Atomic Zombie Adventureland... so...

#406 5 years ago

So if you could only buy into one Zidware game being released in the "relative near future" which one would you choose and why? Magic Girl or Retro Atomic Zombie Adventureland??

I would go Magic Girl as of now. I just take more to a mystical theme than a zombie theme. They will probably both be incredible I'm sure.

#417 5 years ago

After seeing The Hobbit right now, I'm still way more excited for these JPop games.

#419 5 years ago

It's just another WOZ. Licensed theme I don't really care about. I'm still mixed on that LCD screen that is way too big. I never loved any of the games the main designer has made.

#445 5 years ago
Quoted from BloodyCactus:

the angle of those cabs is crazy. do not like the shape of the cab. i wonder if its so steep to house some hugeass toy in the back? anyway.. hmm

Well the back is going to house the LCD screen which isn't going on the translite, so that might be the reason for a taller cabinet on the back than normal.

#579 5 years ago

It's funny how so many of you who have preordered are complaining about the turnaround of John's games fully aware how masterful the creative force is (greatest Pin designer ever?) along with how darn right rare these games are actually gonna be once released. If I just had the resources to be in on all 3 of Zidware's games it would be a no brainer.

I guess JPops games reach into artsy-fartsy territory and not everyone has the eye or taste or patience for that sort of thing, I get that, and some of you just want modern high quality entertaining pins as soon as possible there are so many other options out and about. Go for them! JPop is one of kind talent that seems to take forever doing the shit that he does with the aim of producing work that is one of kind - GET OFF THE MAN'S NUTS

#992 5 years ago

I prefer original themes far more than licensed ones. JPop is a master of originality. I was actually not very excited when I heard he was doing Alice in Wonderland. Him not doing KISS is no biggie to me because the theme is just so not my thing.

Seriously I want to know what Zid games #4, #5, and #6 are gonna be. You guys laugh but I need to know. These JPop games are like Pokemon to me. I gotta catch and collect them all!

pokemon games.jpg

JPop = J "Effin' Bad Ass" Pop"pin' Vagine"

#1007 5 years ago

The only big licensed theme I would want John to ever consider is Calvin & Hobbes incorporating original art from the great Bill Waterson of course. There still to this day hasn't been a Hobbes doll manufactured so that would be a feat.

EDIT - Fine... I would accept My Neighbor Totoro as well...

#1009 5 years ago
Quoted from Frax:

How the hell are you going to have a Miyazaki based pin illustrated by....not Miyazaki. LOL.

Get that fucker out of retirement... Get that fucker to make new art for a Pin... Problem Solved...

#1012 5 years ago
Quoted from pinstor12:

How many do you think he could sell, maybe 10?

10 Gazillion

#1023 5 years ago

John isn't a phony fancy pants PR specialist... He's an Artist.

Maybe his new games won't be the most popular things around, but they will be the best.

P.S. ~ After playing CV tonight I frickin' hate the video modes and firing the cannon so much in that game. God Damn John! Why!? That pin would have been almost too perfect without that crap

#1042 5 years ago

"Hey, it's only pinball"

Hyper limited quantities of these games is for the birds. Zidware should sell as many games as they can in the span of when a certain title is in production. Original buyers should be rewarded with cosmetic upgrades and possibly a cheaper pre-order price than the rest. Magic Girl should go down to the RAZA price point.

You are a douchebag if you don't want as many people to enjoy these cool new games.

The best analogy for John is being someone like Terrence Malick. Someone who makes works of art and takes forever doing them but is always under the rader. The Steve Jobs analogy is dead wrong. Steve wasn't an artist with a niche audience, he was a master artisan who was able to get into the consciousness of the mainstream. Big difference. Artists makes things that people don't need in a practical sense but can feed the soul. It's spiritual & very personal. Artisans make things that can be aesthetically pleasing but also serve practical needs. Like having an iphone can be relevant for day to day life for instance. Having a pinball machine is just there to make you feel better.

When Zid's games finally release they are gonna be worth their weight in gold. If someone could honestly say that about WOZ I'll do a back flip~

#1339 5 years ago
Quoted from kaneda:

What did he show people to get 17k down? Game must be unreal.

Game is gonna be mega rare. Less than 100 made.

#1361 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

I'll say this, I think John could ultimately make 100 or so MG's and 250 RAZA's.

Let's hope this many is made at least. It's gonna suck down the line when someone wants one of these machines and has to pay through the butt cheek to get one.

#1413 5 years ago

I'm sick of people still saying "if" these machines are produced. These games are coming and we need to give our full support to John so he can get Zidware situated properly and continue to do what he does for the next couple of decades at least. He's the only person in the modern pinball environment that has my full trust of pumping out masterpieces. I'm sure in creating a new pinball company the first game is always going to be the hardest, and we are still getting there~

#1417 5 years ago

I believe Taylor Swift said it best when she said:

"'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate"

#1429 5 years ago
Quoted from QuickSilverShelby:

Strange, I gotta say your name is very becoming.

Shake It Off! Popadiuk! (P.S.~ Taylor Swift is Hot)

#1452 5 years ago
Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

I thought current pricing was already there.

LOL, yeah its all subjective. I see more value in getting a rare Zidware game at 17K than getting 2 LE Sterns at a similar price or even less, but I'm sure most people on this forum wouldn't think that way...

#1902 5 years ago

Well, at least Terrence Malick's trailer for his newest film Knight of Cups got revealed a couple of days ago:

... and JPop is pinball's Terrence Malick. So that's something at least...

I'm still very hopeful Zidware is gonna really make it happen. Go get'em John~

#2349 5 years ago

I've always believed JPop is the greatest pinball designer ever and from what I'm seeing my view is far from changed...

#3784 4 years ago

Honestly at this point I think John should be able to take as much time as he needs. If you don't like it and are in already he should make it easy enough to get rid of your pre-order.

There are other options out there for fast turnaround pinball production and Zidware ain't one of them...

1 month later
#4472 4 years ago

~These games are done when they are done~

Zidware obviously isn't Stern churning out good enough games on a timely matter for the current pinball market. The aim of Zid's shit is to make one of a kind games whose aura last a lifetime for however long it may take to produce. It just sucks that wasn't communicated at the start.

JPOP is not the best at PR and business management, so hopefully the games really are that good that you will forget about it in the end...

#4600 4 years ago

OMG, i need the money for this fuckin' game.... ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Talk about John comin' thru in the end and all these douchebags talkin' mad shit over & over & over & over again. DOUBTFUL. That bastard is my boy. John is my boy. He's the one who really gets it...

3 weeks later
#5808 4 years ago

John is the most creative guy in pinball. It really sucks if he's having problems logistically. It might not be a bad thing for him to collaborate with those who have a natural knack for pinball business management so he can focus on just being a god damn pinball designer.

#5871 4 years ago

Of course it's nice... What else do you expect from "The Most Creative Guy in Pinball"?

1 week later
#6625 4 years ago
Quoted from The_Dude_Abides:

Yeah a strange project gets even stranger.

... oh yeah very Strange

John is coming thru. You people tend to forget what a secretive type he is. These games are gonna be beautiful.

#6634 4 years ago

Kaneda is good peoples. He's just a bit of a troll. Nobody's perfect. I definitely consider him one of the most passionate gamers on Pinside. And he has far more style and originality than most people on here being able to turn a bedroom in a nice area of Manhattan into a very nice looking small arcade. He's absolutely of the mantra of "Quality over Quantity" which is why you can see his attraction to Zidware.

#6649 4 years ago
Quoted from The_Dude_Abides:

If you call coming thru not having a whitewood after what 3-4 years then you are a supreme optimist.

If it takes another 3-4 years for JPOP to produce another game in the quality of Cirqus Voltaire IMO I feel the wait will be worth it...

#6729 4 years ago

Cirqus Voltaire is the greatest pinball ever made. To me its the only obvious Masterpiece when it comes to pinball machines. I only see a Zidware pin having the potential to match it.

#6731 4 years ago

When it comes to making PinGames JPOP doesn't fuck around!

#6751 4 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

It was such a hit, they could hardly give them away when they first came out. But at least there wasn't much of a wait if you wanted one.

My favorite film of all time is Days of Heaven and that film wasn't commercially successful in the slightest when it came out in the late 70's. Now that film is often considered as a masterpiece. Vincent Van Gogh sold one god damn painting in his life so I'm sure his art was terrible. The posterity of something and its initial commercial reception aren't linked at all.

#6787 4 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

I thought the only reason John was even going to involved was because he had some toy or mech he wanted to add to the game.

I've heard this too and I can only see adding on to the TOTAN playfield as a very bad idea. In the end not everyone would agree if the new and improved rule set would be better than what we have now. It's important that we should be able to switch back and forth between new and old rules.

#13580 4 years ago

From the extended video the game is looking pretty cool, but yes we need to see a video of a player hitting all the shots especially the ramps.

#13598 4 years ago
Quoted from rai:

Plus he's pricing this at 2x the cost of MMR.

Well to be fair Premium MG machines are gonna very limited affairs. Still ultra limited or not I do get that 16K is a fuck ton of money to throw at a pinball machine no matter how nice it is. My recommendation would be to try to lower the price down even more for the Premiums to maybe around 13K and have the standards priced competitively with games like Big Lewbowski and The Hobbit. These games need to be competitive price wise.

#13633 4 years ago

I'm really starting to feel this game. The pinball news article is giving this game way more justice than the first short gameplay video posted on this thread.

Magic Girl looks amazing to me. I routing for all of Zid's game to be finished, but MG especially. The sound and art are above and beyond and if it ended up playing as well as any of John's BW games with modern rules I wouldn't complain. John's games might not be the absolute most popular from the pinhead community but they are definitely some of my personal favorites. Heck, CV to me really is the greatest pinball ever. Very unique experience for a very unique game designer. I'm sure something will turn up to help these games come along eventually, and if they are some of the best pin games ever created and the financials get sorted and people get games, I'm sure the saltiness of the current situation will dissolve and eventually be forgotten, while the cool games will be remembered.

4 months later
#18611 3 years ago

I still find John a very talented and unique pinball designer, my personal fave as I've expressed before. It's a shame there as been such turbulence around these new games which in my opinion have all looked amazing. If there is a will there is a way. The Pinball Inventor has nothing else to prove but make nice pin games. He will come through in the end...

Magic Girl is my dream pin. Theme, art, and audio are all out of this world! I'm fully supportive of Zidware to fully complete the three games promised and make good with the pre-order buyers (even if it's at the end of the day).
