So I take it this is all in the courts about now? Will they sale off the parts of the Magic Girl machines to recoop some of the costs to the investors? What will happen to what little was created?

Quoted from doughslingers:

I will never have robots at the drive in as I often work the ticket booth and love interacting with my customers. Our food concession stand makes everything the old fashioned way fresh and hot made to order. Sometimes the wait can be long however. 15 dollars per hour would probably inflate movie tickets from our 8 dollars for two.movies to 10.dollars per person. Check us out at http://www.centraldrivein.com

Looks very cool! If I am ever in that neck of the woods I will have to catch a flick or two.

Quoted from frolic:

I did get to meet up with Bill this weekend. It was a pleasure to meet my old war buddy!
The friends I've made in this hobby far outweigh any of the negativity so I'd do it all again.

Whoever is on the right looks like a dead ringer for Mike Wolfe of American Pickers to me.

#19667 3 years ago

No news on G2E? Anyone there?

#19689 3 years ago

G2E is a Casino Industry Event, Why would AP reveal a pinball machine there? This is definitely a circus.

#19805 3 years ago
Quoted from zombieyeti:

Moment of reflection for all excited about the turn of events in the realm of Magic Girl....
Is American Pinball going to actually make everyone 'whole' to clear the PR path for JPOP for Magic Girl? Preorder folks were only part of the story folks...
*cough cough* As in... will ALL of the people like myself who were convinced to work (and stick around) above and beyond (for little to no pay at times) under the guise that we would receive a machine upon completion as the bonus to offset?
Will we receive our promised games? I've received no call so I guess no.
And THAT is why all should temper their excitement in future JPOP projects... remember they were built on the backs of folks who were also taken for a ride...
To the point: those machines being delivered contain work never fully paid for.
/end reality check

I hope you are made whole as well ZY. I doubt that everyone will be made whole though. On their facebook page their was a comment from AP about working on making others whole after MG but it has disappeared.

#19823 3 years ago
Quoted from miracleman:

Well, pics of Houdini at vegas I put here from their FB page have been deleted, so go to American Pinball's FB page to see them.
They're obviously not top secret if they're on FB, but whatever...
https://www.facebook.com/americanpinball/?fref=ts

strange as they are still posted on the other thread

#19828 3 years ago

I am surprised we have not seen any real pinball paparazzi photos of this game from G2E yet.

The whole thing screams scam. Should have called themselves Nigerian Pinball.
But people never learn.

What screams scam about it to you? They stated they are not looking for preorders.

#20065 3 years ago
Quoted from Methos:

There isn't any pinball experience or pedigree in the industry, no released plans of logistics or manufacturing, no business plan, no word on capital, no sourcing of parts or assembling of raw materials...
I hope it is real, but it's a long shot in the best scenario.

Quoted from dmesserly:

Good pinball needs more than playfield design and manufacturing.
It needs good design backed by testing and refining to create a well playing playfield. Then it needs good coding.
Who knows if they can find those people. Jpop has imagination but it took a team to make his prior pins any good.

Interesting that they added Joe Balcer to the mix according to their FB page.

#20071 3 years ago

From their FB page...hmm set up an appointment to not preorder?

We're looking forward to seeing everyone in person this weekend at Expo. It's true we'll be presenting Friday morning at 9am.
If you'd also like to schedule an appointment please email us at Sales@American-Pinball.com.

Can't see it worth that much....depends on how it plays. Now if it turns out that it has great rules and all the shots work correctly it could be worth some coin.

#21259 2 years ago
Quoted from TigerLaw:

BBB is a really solid pinball machine. Capcon was moving in the right direction and by my assessment it was their best game. The scarcity, artwork and cool adult theme go a long way, but BBB is a good playing machine.

If the ramps are hard to hit I guess the flipper strength could be increased? The other option is people somehow re-engineer the ramps to make them lower...is that realistically doable or far fetched?

I don't believe the ramps are a power problem but a geometry one. I don't think there is any video on Magic Girl of a ball entering a ramp from a flipper.

#21260 2 years ago
Quoted from Haymaker:

BBB is a mostly complete game though. MG seems more like a King Kong or a kingpin, both of which command much more than BBB. Those are games where the layout is pretty much there, but a lot of the coding isn't finished and there's probably a lot of tweaking left to do. BBB was pretty much a finished game when Capcom shut down it's pinball division.

I think Kingpin is pretty far along, the few times I have played it at Pin a go go and Ca xtreme it seems pretty code complete. Don't really know about King Kong.

#21282 2 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

We'll find out soon when he gets his. He's certainly saying that with conviction.
Meanwhile cointaker is desperately trying to flip theirs via auction on Facebook without posting ANY video. Certainly lends credence to the idea that it's an unplayable disaster. That brief clip that surfaced certainly doesn't instill confidence does it?
If the game were anything but dogshit don't you think they'd have posted 20 minutes of video by now? Certainly would juice the bidding, right?

Doubt he will open his, haven't listened to his podcast though.

Just wish someone would post video of at least 5 minutes or so long instead of attention grabbing by posting worthless 30 second videos jpop style.

#22019 2 years ago
Quoted from InfiniteLives:

so do we know yet if the magnets on the upper playfield work to "fight the power" and K hasnt made it happen yet or if that feature isnt implemented yet? I think that looks to be an important aspect of the game but we have yet to see it in action. Would also like to see if K can get a multiball going for us, hear the jackpot call outs.

Applejuice has said that you have to power up the magnaflips by hitting the inside loop until all letters of the power inserts are lit. So I believe they are implemented.

#22028 2 years ago
Quoted from InfiniteLives:

yeah I saw he said that, but who knows if its in this code build that jon sent out. hopefully we can get some confirmation from the Kman

I am thinking that the code is how Applejuice left it...waiting for confirmation as well.

#22030 2 years ago
Quoted from stpcore:

I can only imagine it's a very sore subject for him and selling those translites probably won't make him feel any better about being screwed out of his compensation for this game.

If he did sale the Translites he just might make way more then what jpop would have ever paid him!

#22146 2 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

Don't forget to criticize others for taking his designs.

"Hey they ripped off the thing I just ripped off!" Quote from Cheech and Chong's Next Movie

#22338 2 years ago
Quoted from benheck:

The lower PF rotating was my idea. The flipper would stay put, and one of three "scenes" would rotate in. You'd have to clear them all to reach the reactor which you'd bash at. (Not sure if there would have been room to make it all fit)
There was also a window in the side of the cab that showed a glowing neon "reactor core" which was kind of a neat idea until you realize collectors pack these [pins] side-by-side like sardines. It served no purpose besides looking cool.
My pitch [that fit John's pre-existing ideas of a) Ben b) Zombies c) Theme park] was that you (the player) sneak into an abandoned theme park late one night to make out with your main squeeze. But then she's captured by "Evil Ben Heck" who has an army of zombies and he's going to transform her into their queen by midnight. You must battle [things] to get her back!
I don't think that plot was even considered. I mean just look how random the game became after I left.
John clearly just wanted to make an amusement park theme, but that's SO dated nowadays. I really pushed for "decrepit, decaying park" because I thought that would be much more visually interesting.

Do you have any drawings of the lower playfield rotating idea you would share? Sounds so cool!

#22346 2 years ago

I really doubt these machines appreciate in the long run unless they get fixes to play correctly. I could be wrong though. I just don't see the value as a art piece at a 20k value. 20k was a tough sale for the BBB with all the extras (that is a great art piece and has a great backstory). BBB also plays correctly. That being said I believe there is enough hype for this game to sale at 20k to the eccentric collector right now.

#22348 2 years ago

Doesn't EBay take 10% of what an item sales for?

#22446 2 years ago
Quoted from TigerLaw:

Great to hear!!! For some reason I thought he was an independent contractor (I don't recall why I thought that).

He did work as a independent contractor for Stern (I don't believe for all titles that he did for them though)...not sure of his business relationship with JJP.

#22451 2 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I love the philosophizing going on about this insane phenomena...but bottom line, somehow they made 20 or so of these things...they are basically half-finished project machines, and a handful of people are willing to spend insane money on 'em.
I really can't explain it and neither can you. I guess it just shows how crazy the very top end of this hobby is right now, but I don't think it really relates to anything else. Doesn't have anything to do with any other game or manufacturer, trends in the hobby or industry, or anything else.
Basically, it's just some crazy shit. I hope whomever ponies up the cost of a nicely-loaded Toyota gets some enjoyment out of their investment.

Maybe were at the end of time!

Mayor: What do you mean, “biblical”?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath-of-God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling.
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes…
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together – mass hysteria.

oh wait maybe that is another thread.

Quoted from Whysnow:

? Whom made these current MGs?
I thought peopel said AP guys were not helping?

A lot of this secrecy is just that. I believe AP obviously helped to save face but they are trying to maintain the distance from jpop. It is a bizarre situation but I don't believe jpop built these in his own.

#22623 2 years ago
Quoted from MSN22:

Would be funny if someone picks up the rights to Magic Girl and makes it in large numbers

I can't possibly see the demand for Magic Girl in large numbers

#22655 2 years ago
Quoted from JeffTaylor:

I got to "play" Magic Girl today. I put that in quotes because it isn't really play-able do to ball-trap issues. I could start a game and bat the ball around for a while, but ramp shots would often get stuck in the upper right corner where the ball moves from one ramp the other. I don't think that will be a difficult spot to ball-proof, but that wasn't the only one. I can confirm what you have all seen in the Special-K videos, unfinished code, missing hardware, etc. and I'll add one small thing I noticed, a stand up target that can't be hit! It's under the ramp on the left side. The only approach is from the orbit. There is no direct shot from either flipper and no way to bounce it in there either. See photo.

I think you have to "Believe" you can hit it first. That is just to funny.

Quoted from rotordave:

That's pretty f**king funny.
Is there a possibility it could be hit from the other side? ie the switch is in the wrong way round?
rd

I wonder if it is the wrong way. That is funny though.

#22696 2 years ago
Quoted from Pinballs:

Wait 6 years for a pin, then sell it unboxed for a few $k profit. I cannot understand this. I want to play the damn thing. Aren't these people curious? Obviously this doesn't apply if you've got two and sell one.
My MG arrives at the house tomorrow. And it will be played, man.

I can understand this especially with reports and video showing it not to be a player, incomplete and basically artwork with a resemblance to pinball. Couple the fact that you could sale it for a tidy profit as it sits NIB. I understand your view too though, to each there own.

#22903 2 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

I understand what you are saying. However, he now has a track record of people wanting to buy his limited edition pins, no matter how bad state of affairs is, for $30k plus.
That's what all the jumping up and down and hollering is about and why so many people think its justified due to the "collectibility", "limited" etc.. Thus, some mega wealthy dude might jump in and do it for fun, considering there is a market established for his shit. That's not that hard to figure out.
I'm sure his camp is working hard on exploiting that. Wouldn't you?
If Jpop came out right now and said I'm going to sell 20 of the zombie chick bowling pins and asked for a $10k deposit and a $17k price tag, how many people do you think would sign up?
Gonna buy MG for $30k and not Zombie bowling for $17k to have another "piece of history"? I wouldn't, nor would many but like so many of you guys keep saying, there are plenty of "collectors" that would. The evidence is in.

I don't think the evidence is in....one sold to the podcast guy for 23k. How many others have sold? I don't believe any others have sold...now has there been a couple on Craigslist, EBay, and here listed for ridiculous prices, sure, but have any sold? I think there is a bit of demand right now but closer to the 20k price range for actual sales...we will see I guess. I think the demand is more speculation then anything else. I would say some think they might make a profit if they can get one now and flip it for more rather then actually wanting the game to play.

#22958 2 years ago

I wonder if the proto roll over switches is what lights the POWER to power up the magna flippers

#23020 2 years ago

Deleted stupid joke.

#23107 2 years ago
Quoted from Richthofen:

Well it's clear MG wouldn't have been built without RAZA/AIW funds. RAZA and AIW won't be built. If I were a RAZA buyer you bet your ass I'd be seeking a clawback. JPOP admitted insolvency over a year ago but instead of winding down the business and prioritizing creditors he conned American Pinball into making MGs. That con won't work twice.

I am not so sure that he conned AP very much. When Houdini was first announced AP went to bat for JPOP pretty hard even when they admitted to knowing the back history of MG, RAZA, and AIW. I just don't believe they knew the depth of the damage JPOP had caused and only then did they realize they had to distance themselves from him. This is all speculation though as the majority of us doesn't know the inside information.

#23140 2 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Totally agree Brian and it's not personal with the MG owners. They get what they get. Fine people.
I just don't want to see them profit off this when others got shafted including vendors.
And for that reason I hope they don't get a dime over what they paid. Or at least some reasonable gain like Kim got
$30k-$50k seems so F ing ridiculous.
Now off to selection Sunday and the greatest time of the year!

30k-50k is ridiculous, that's why these machines are not moving. It is like the eBay BTTF for 100k. It is a joke of a price and I can't see them being bought at these prices.

#23164 2 years ago
Quoted from Jeremy8419:

I'd go with worth much less. Right now it classifies as a "current event." In the future, it won't have that benefit. It will still be rare, but it will be a largely non-working rare from a company that never produced any completed projects. It won't be in the same category as any of the prototypes or rates from Williams, Bally, Stern, etc., because all those were actually successful companies with many completed products. This will be in the same category as if Joe Blow tried to make a pinball machine (or anything really) and then gave up before finishing it: virtually worthless.
