Quoted from Wolfmarsh:You guys are victims, you didn't do anything wrong.
There is literally nobody to blame other than John Popadiuk.
Quoted from DCFAN:It is a pity John does not see it that way.
That's because were dealing with a Moron. I submit johnny drop a deuce is a Moron.

Quoted from Mitch:Nothing to do with Jeff Bridges more about the incoherent ramblings. Try to keep up
Nah I kept up just fine. My analogy was that Dutch Pinball has shipped the exact amount of games JPop has. I'll let you figure out that number...
Quoted from Roostking:You call what Jpop did, a "mistake?"
No I didn't. I was hypothesizing if Nate had Jersey Jack on his show to talk about mistakes made with Hobbit or Gary Stern on to talk about mistakes with GOT art. Please don't take offense. I will go away now.
Quoted from eggbert52:Nah I kept up just fine. My analogy was that Dutch Pinball has shipped the exact amount of games JPop has. I'll let you figure out that number...
They've shipped BOP 2.0. That's at least 1/2 a game more than John has shipped. It's a complete pinball project including CPU, code, gameplay, music, animation & part of a physical product that has shipped to customers.
Quoted from Rarehero:They've shipped BOP 2.0. That's at least 1/2 a game more than John has shipped. It's a complete pinball project including CPU, code, gameplay, music, animation & part of a physical product that has shipped to customers.
Go away libtard. Seriously Greg, go out and spend your trust fund and get off of Pinside for a while.
Quoted from eggbert52:Go away libtard. Seriously Greg, go out and spend your trust fund and get off of Pinside for a while.
Wtf man. Out of line.
Holy cow 14 different titles from Stern alone now. Thanks zentron I would have never thought that many.
Quoted from eggbert52:Go away libtard. Seriously Greg, go out and spend your trust fund and get off of Pinside for a while.
Please forward me the account number. I didn't know I had one!
Jokes aside, what I wrote about BoP 2.0 was absolutely true. Hurling a libelous personal attack at me does nothing but let people know the truth about you.

Quoted from lowepg:Hmm.
Thats a fair point.... And a better one than I was trying to make criticizing Nate. You're right. It does put John "on the record" more completely than he's been before (at least without piecing together dozens of emails, blogs, etc).
I still think Nate could have "corralled him in" a bit AND should not have been so deferential, but I suppose those at stylistic points. If Nate doesn't naturally have the ability to challenge someone in conversation, I guess your destined to get what amounted to a 2 hour stream-of-consciousness blog from Jpop.
I honestly think Jpop would have hung up if Nate pressed him any harder. Based on that interview, he has completely buried his head in the sand when it comes to all of his business problems.
Quoted from eggbert52:Nah I kept up just fine. My analogy was that Dutch Pinball has shipped the exact amount of games JPop has. I'll let you figure out that number...
The video clip had nothing g to do with Dutch pinball or games shipped... man your reaching on that one. here I'll help you as I've been told trolls are slow and not that bright.
Step 1 put on your imagination cap.( this is not a real cap just so you know)
Re watch the clip and imaging the dude is jpop in the interview (because he just keeps rambling on nonsense ) then imagine that Jeffrey labowski's answer is exactly what pinside felt after hearing the jpop interview.
I hope you can figure this out because there is no easier way for me to explain it to you. It has nothing repeat nothing to do with Dutch pinball quit trolling.
John was close to tears at several points in this interview. (If you couldn't tell that, "listen better!") Maybe it's not sorrow or remorse, but he clearly knows how serious it is.
I suppose "getting your pound of flesh" will be knowing while you're out 10k, his future is basically ruined.
Stern may be the only company in America that PREFERS to hire men over 50, and yet he turned down a job there (spoiler warning! because they offered less than he was paying himself)
The whole interview struck me as kind of sad. John trying to hold onto some dignity by deluding himself with the hope that somehow he will make it right and the games will get made, as the walls are crashing in around him.
Quoted from benheck:John was close to tears at several points in this interview. (If you couldn't tell that, "listen better!") Maybe it's not sorrow or remorse, but he clearly knows how serious it is.

Did you listen to Nate's follow-up Podcast? John said he wanted to get the story out before he "falls on his sword" ...should we put John on suicide watch? How dark can this story get...
On the most recent podcast, Nate revealed that John e-mailed him and said he wanted to do the interview "before he falls on his sword" which I guess means bankruptcy?
Quoted from boo32:"before he falls on his sword" which I guess means bankruptcy?
He's been clinging to the "I never give up" narrative, so likely it would be a bankruptcy ("falling on sword" = "giving up").

Don't worry Greg, he's just jealous because he hasen't produced as many Family Guy episodes as you have...
hehe Libtard...hehe that's funny! Libtard.. hehe it's even funny to say! Drink the koolaid you sheeple! hehehe it's fun being a Libtard!

Thats the way i look at it.
I don't need to sue him, others can take that road.
His pinball life is ruined. I wouldn't revel in anybody's life being ruined over something like this.
I'm just a victim. Life goes on. Live and learn. John has to move on as well and find something else to do. Take responsibility and move on.
Quoted from Rarehero:John said he wanted to get the story out before he "falls on his sword" ...should we put John on suicide watch? How dark can this story get...
There's multiple meanings to it:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fall_on_one's_sword
1. To commit suicide by allowing one’s body to drop onto the point of one's sword.
2. To resign from a job or other position of responsibility, especially when pressured to do so
3. To voluntarily take the blame for a situation
I'll take number 2&3

Stern may be the only company in America that PREFERS to hire men over 50, and yet he turned down a job there (spoiler warning! because they offered less than he was paying himself)
I did pick up that he was sick about the whole situation, and like others have said, I don't think he meant for any of this to happen....he is just stupid/delusional and has absolutely zero business sense.
That said, the problem is that he is still carrying on and spending money as if he is still going to ship machines instead of trying to fix the situation and refund money. The machine will never get built, and he is conveniently ignoring that fact.
Looks like he changed his website - http://www.pinballinventor.org/
took down all links to anything

Quoted from asay:I don't think he meant for any of this to happen....he is just stupid/delusional and has absolutely zero business sense.
This is the #1 reason why I have zero sympathy for him. He let his ego get the best of him, and now he's going to pay for it one way or another. If he were smart, he would have followed Steve Ritchie's path when Williams closed. Get a crappy job to pay the bills, sell signed merchandise on your website to help fund the difference, work on playfield designs, and when Stern asks you if you want a job, you say.. YES!
Did Barry Oursler decide "Hey! I'm gonna start my own pinball company!", no.. because he knows he couldn't do it. He took a joe job, sold every HUO pinball machine he ever worked on to pay bills, and now that boutique pinball is in full effect he's doing a playfield layout for Heighway Pinball instead of owing everyone a million dollars.
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:Looks like he changed his website - http://www.pinballinventor.org/

Yes, looks like he's revamping the layout (why I couldn't possibly guess), but all the sublinks still work:
http://www.pinballinventor.org/feed.html
http://www.pinballinventor.org/news.html
http://www.pinballinventor.org/press.html
Looks like he's also adding things (mod and truss weren't there before). Is he attempting to sell mods for existing games? or is attempting to sell his "truss system" from the Kiss prototype to another pinball company?

Probably 80% of us would have been satisfied with a heart felt apology (call each person up), ownership of his mistakes, and then go bankrupt and move on. He seems incapable of that and is scorching the earth because of it.
Quoted from homebrood:hehe Libtard...hehe that's funny! Libtard.. hehe it's even funny to say! Drink the koolaid you sheeple! hehehe it's fun being a Libtard!
While I strongly object to my friend Greg being ridiculed as a Libtard, your reference to Koolaid and Sheeple stoops to the same level.
And the giggling in that quote takes you a step beneath.
No politics please.
Edit: I know its a quote from TV. But it was posted in retaliation and inappropriate.
Quoted from iceman44:I don't need to sue him, others can take that road.
He needs to be stopped as far as tricking folks to keep sending money for vapor ware .
Quoted from frolic:Probably 80% of us would have been satisfied with a heart felt apology (call each person up), ownership of his mistakes, and then go bankrupt and move on. He seems incapable of that and is scorching the earth because of it.
So true. Be a man.
He couldn't accept the help everybody offered before and can't seem to bring himself to apologize, sincerely, for what he did.
Maybe that is coming, the apology combined with the bankruptcy, but it's too late.
Stick a fork in yourself John and move on to something else.
Isn't updating his website like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic?
If a white knight was willing to lose a lot of money, this project could be saved. If a billionaire wanted to raise the Titanic from the ocean floor it could be done.
But why? It'd be far cheaper to use that money to start something from scratch without the baggage. Why spend $1,000,000 on 25k of artwork?

With that in mind, I wonder how much JPop could get for all the IP and materials in selling it to someone else with the stipulation that JPop has no further involvement. Would it even come close to being able to reimburse everyone?
I just don't see the designs being worth anything. Not with custom everything. It was a fool's errand from the beginning.
An IP related to an unreleased, original product from a bankrupt company is worth zero dollars. "But don't take MY word for it..."
Quoted from benheck:his future is basically ruined.
I've posted about this before. I'd rather lose the money than be John Popadiuk right now. He's forever an outcast from the only world he has ever known. And in my opinion, he's his own victim as well.
But that won't stop me from cracking jokes at his expense. Its just my nature.
Emotionally I've move on from this entire fiasco. (other than the Pinside insults)
And as I've stated before, I'm uncomfortable in being called a victim. I got myself here...
So I guess I prefer being called a Jpop survivor if anything. ... groan, labels...
I would like to clarify that while I feel bad it came to this, I don't feel sorry for John.
He pocketed almost 3 times as much money NOT making games as I did bringing something real to market.
I guess so did Kevin. Damn. Making games is the wrong way to go about it.
When he took people's money he was officially playing "big boy games"
He made the choices, and owns every consequence.
He did NOT just made a mistake or 2...
So I have ZERO remorse for him. zero.
Quoted from benheck:Making games is the wrong way to go about it.
But you have the one thing he craves... the respect from the pinball community. Plus the ability to do whatever you want next in pinball. Maximum respect, Ben.
For all of those who got scammed by JPOOP: if the guy was able to produce the machines you paid for, would it make things right? I know he says the money is gone so no refunds, but if he somehow was able to make the games - Illinois has a lottery, right? - could his reputation be salvaged?
Quoted from Cornelius:For all of those who got scammed by JPOOP: if the guy was able to produce the machines you paid for, would it make things right? I think he'd be happy taking someone else's money (rich guy) to pay to keep going, but I suspect if he won the lottery or had an inheritance, he would not use "his" money to make things right.
Quoted from benheck:I would like to clarify that while I feel bad it came to this, I don't feel sorry for John.

Do you really want to be in JPOP or Kevin's shoes right now?
All of the IP is like a failing restaurant where you don't own the building. People get tricked into buying it thinking they can turn it around but in the end the restaurant was worthless.
Quoted from benheck:I would like to clarify that while I feel bad it came to this, I don't feel sorry for John.
I feel the same way here. We are human beings. Like Ben, I have worked really hard at my businesses over the years and it pains me to see people like John have something like this happen. There are two reasons why I feel this way:
1) I really don't like seeing opportunity blown. John had a HUGE opportunity here! I was working hard for the opportunity to help make it happen! It looked that good!
2) For those who have run their own business, having someone tell you, "well, pinball is different..." when talking about basic business 101 stuff, makes you seriously doubt their abilities. I was motivated to help John in order to help those who paid for the games. After beating your head against the wall with him you start to wonder, "why is this guy even involved? He is just gumming up the works!" Especially when I learned he wasn't even the guy creating the art he was signing!
I have learned that you can't care more about someone else's problems than they do and expect to feel anything but heartache. Had John listened to and took the advice of the people who cared enough to spend time getting to know him and his business, this situation would not have turned out this bad.
Making pinball is hard? Sure. Running a business is harder. Running a pinball business is really hard. John had no idea what it was like running a pinball company. Hearing him talk about other pinball companies was just annoying. Who was he to say anything about any other company? In his day he worked in one area of a pinball company where everything else was taken care of for him. Collect your paycheck and go home. Running a business is nothing like that.

FAST Pinball
Tough interview to listen to, there was zero business sense anywhere in that discussion. Depressing.
On with crazy ideas and how to create something out of nothing........
How about someone make a digital version of this game (this should be possible, right.... much easier to make adjustments to the layout....no need to buy materials and worry about that whole building thing), need to finish coding.... hard to say if there is value or
John transfers all IPs into some sort of an an LLC that all the buyers and unpaid suppliers are part of.... that LLC sets up some sort of a deal (maybe it is all back-end royalties on games sold and maybe there some upfront fee (probably not too big though given the kickstarters I saw with pinball arcade) with Zen or the pinball arcade guys, Zen or Pinball Arcade develops and publishes the table.... royalties get paid to LLC who then distributes....
I have no basis for the following math, but just as an example, lets say they get 500,000 downloads and charge $5 bucks a table (a premium to what they typically charge).... thats $2.5MM in Revenue (keep in mind someone has to pay development costs, I'm sure apple/google take a chunk, etc....)... maybe you could get a 20% royalty for providing all the IP, artwork, concept, etc.... ? and still have it be interesting for the developer.
The key to the math would be maximizing the downloads and if you can get a bit of a premium price for it it gives everyone some more room to make money. If nothing else, it would be interesting to have this notorious table be playable, even if only in digital form.
Someone closer to how Pinball Arcade's business model works would need to weigh in on if any of this is possible... definitely possible for them to make the game and make money, just not sure how much money it would generate for the IP owner... (Stern would know given they just inked a deal, of course, Stern is providing finalized games for them to simulate/emulate).
Quoted from ataritoday:lets say they get 500,000 downloads
There are less than 30,000 pinsiders TOTAL. 500k in paid downloads would be a transcendent pinball game.
Quoted from benheck:John was close to tears at several points in this interview. (If you couldn't tell that, "listen better!") Maybe it's not sorrow or remorse, but he clearly knows how serious it is.
Correct. It's not sorrow or remorse. It's relief. Interrogation professionals use sleep deprivation to get this result. When an interviewee is put under intense pressure for long enough, and asked the same questions about which the interviewer suspects they are lying, the result will always be the same. If the interviewee is telling the truth, they will get angrier and angrier. If they are lying, they will start crying. The crying is an adrenaline release at the subconscious realisation that the battle is over. So the goal is not to get them to speak the truth at all. It's to make them either angry or cry, and then the answer is clear.
if pinsiders are a good estimate for pinballarcade downloads (or zen), then probably not a ton of $ here, but it would appear that you can make some money in selling digital games as williams and stern have done deals... anyhow a quick call to pinball arcade team would let them explore the option.... maybe it generates a little $...
looking back at the kickstarters, pinball arcade had to raise $100K to make some of their licensed tables commercially viable... so I agree, not big opportunity based on that as well.
