Jpop gave the backbox art away to a volunteer who helped him set up the KISS pinball machine at MGC and he posted them too. Jpop has posted lots of art from MG and RAZA on the zidware facebook page. I think the NDA was primarily to protect revelation of hardware specifics before the patents were complete, but it covers everything about the project.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

If he posts pictures of his work on any internet forum and asks people not to share it with people that get excited by new pinball, that's like a teenaged girl sexting a naked picture to her boyfriend and telling him never to show it to anybody.

Ain't gonna happen.

Really? We all were asked to sign NDA. (Non-discloser agreement) Plus you're on the hook for any and all damages, JPOP is the one to decide the damages, not a judge. That's in the agreement we were asked to sign. Oops!

March 2013! That was my last email from Zidware. After I sent payment. I shot them an email today, wonder if they lost all my account info or just forgot?

Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

For the record - The photos that Rob T posted were also posted by John on Facebook, so I don't think there was any foul there really.
I think the NDA (although I could be TOTALLY wrong) is more for playfield layout, design, toys, etc.
I think if John posts them himself, they are already cleared for release.
Chris

Just to clarify, the NDA covers only stuff from private conversations and the private blog, workshop visits, etc. Anything already revealed to the public by JPOP (through public postings on FB or the like, displaying at a public event, etc.) isn't covered by the NDA and can be freely reposted (but not copied!). I'm pretty sure the NDA has language to that effect; it's pretty standard. (You can't get in trouble for 'revealing' something that is already public knowledge!)

Thank you for the clarification

Not being part of that, I took a guess. Not a bad guess, but still a guess. It's good to know the correct info.

All this talk about artwork.. typical for a jpop game. I've owned and sold TOTAN, CV and Ep1; never had any interest whatsoever in owning a ToM. I kept WCS94, it's fun, happy and cheap. CV was fun til I realized I spent the whole game shooting just three shots - ramp, left orbit and Ringmaster. Hopefully jpop can get some good gameplay in these new machines to go along with the killer artwork. Right now I'm skeptical, but hope to be proven wrong.

And before all the thumbs-downers go ballistic (Greg?) .. ask yourself: how often do jpop games get used in top-level tournaments? Aside from WCS94's incredible PAPA run and Trent's all-CV Ohio Show some years ago, the answer is basically never.

That's true and the fact that Jpop, despite having patents and such, would have a difficult time financially enforcing any of these much less a violation of an NDA. It's meant as a deterrent and I think John has become resigned to the fact that people are going to copy his stuff and there isn't a whole lot he can do about it in reality.

See Samsung versus Apple patent fights, as usual, only the lawyers win there, especially the latest bout, and we are talking about companies with billions in cash on hand to fight claims. The patent system is broken in this country and has been for a long time. The little guy can't ever win.

Everybody is rightly skeptical, as am I, but at the end of the day, you'll have a very "limited" run of what could be a great player with guaranteed blow out artwork and innovation.

I'll be happy with just letting it sit there and look at it like a piece of artwork if nothing else! I'm sure we'll be able to find some enjoyment out of the game play though......

I'll concede J-Pop's past games don't generally lend themselves to competitive play, but there's a place for beautiful pins with sub-expert level rulesets. Just as there are butt-ugly tourney staples like Dirty Harry. Of course we all prefer to have both in one game.

Python was always fond of saying "Don't design a game for the specialist!". Meaning he wanted to design a game for the average everyday players, not for the tournament elite guys.

I think there is a lot to be said for that.

Because of the rules. Not the PF design. Johns PF designs are mostly superb. I'd think it's not really his fault that the rules on some of his designs are lacking.

That said: who is doing the programming for RAZA? Is Ben Heck involved in this project at all anymore?

JPOP update: everything under NDA, nothing to update.

Who wants to place their bets that ice just won't be able to contain himself much longer and will break the NDA one night after a few too many? He's getting close!

Quoted from iceman44:

I'll post some art pics of RAZA on the next update unless John blows a gasket, which I doubt….

It's not about depth of rulesets... if that were the case, WCS94 would have hit the curb along with the other three. More about quality of play in general. CV appears to have all kinds of stuff to do at first glance, but after you own it a while, you realize over half the goals complete themselves as you're shooting for the three main branches: ringmasters, highwire and juggler. I really, really liked the presentation, music and art, but the game itself eventually got too "meh" to warrant it's 6K spot in my lineup. Buh-bye.

TOTAN was the same... got it back in 1999, loved the light show, music and art, but after a while realized the game was incredibly boring and sold it. I got it for 1K, sold for 3K and am amazed people will pay 5K+ for it these days. To each their own

Quoted from 2RustyBalls:

BTW Jpop asked us not to get on pinside or RGP and show his work.

Heaven forbid pinheads get the chance to see some things that he is working on. I personally think that is the wrong approach to take now days but to each their own. TOTAN was the biggest reason I got addicted to pinball. I love Jpop's work and am not hating just don't care for all of the hiding going on with his newest works in progress.

Regardless of all that, those that are in on these project(s) have very good reason to be pumped beyond belief!! He is a great designer. Hope he supports his newest designs with awesome code!

Since you're a moderator, maybe you should close this thread as those who know anything about the project aren't allowed to say anything. Therefore nothing posted here will be an update & everything posted in this thread is off-topic which is a violation of Pinside rules. If someone does actually post on topic, they'll be violating Jpop's rules and subject to the wrath of his crack legal team. I'm only momentarily violating Pinside rules to point out that this thread is a trap for anyone posting anything about anything. Takin' one for the team, cuz I loves yous guys!

Maybe with total control now the rules will be better than Bally/Williams days? There is going to be some fun and cool stuff to shoot at!

I'll be posting some update stuff that shouldn't be a "violation" but should help sell some pins!

Like I already asked: 1) who is doing the programming? I'm assuming that JPop doesn't do programming, so I don't know if having"total control" is going to help the rules much. 2) Is Ben Heck still involved in this project in any way?

Seems like those 2 questions would be easy to answer, and certainly wouldn't violate any NDA.

Can't we just wait until it's revealed? John wants it to be secret. Talking about being not able to talk about it does not accomplish anything.

I feel John is correct that his ideas might be copied, but one thing I will say John seems to be striving for quality, as if it was a fine watch.

My plebe non-NDA understanding was no, not in any way.

Not up to Pinside to enforce NDA's. Some that are in say that some things can be shared I'm not sure what is okay and what is not. If there is issue with something posted they will need to take it up with the poster and/or contact Pinside staff.

Please guys lets not turn this into a who dislikes who thread. Most of us love pinball and the new resurgence lets focus on that rather then whether or not we agree on everything.

Thanks. What were the circumstances with Ben leaving?

And who is doing the programming?

How about who is going to assemble all these fine pieces of $12K+ artwork? Not some ham-fisted, inexperienced volunteers I hope.

Yes. So back to it.

My questions are still unanswered regarding who is doing the programming, and what were the circumstances regarding Ben Heck no longer being involved in this project?

Also, like GProtein asked, and I've asked before too, who will be putting these together? It's a small run, so it doesn't make sense to have Stern do it like PPS is with MMr, but 125 pins is still way too many to have just a few guys doing it.

#84 5 years ago

Nothing like publicly trying to break an NDA. Usually people do that sort of thing in private

How is SkitB pumping out 250?

We aren't at production stage yet but I'm sure it will be a bunch of hamfisters and idiots doing the job. Good point. And I really don't know who is doing the programming right now, yes it's happening, but most likely a total idiot wouldn't you think? Aren't you glad you bailed out?

Maybe it will never get made and/or code will suck. Happy now? That's a risk we all know.

No clue. I don't follow the SkitB threads. So if you want to share, please feel free to tell me. Otherwise, I don't know what that has to do with this particular thread, unless JPop is using the same guys to assemble RAZA as the SkitB guys are using?

We aren't at production stage yet but I'm sure it will be a bunch of hamfisters and idiots doing the job.

Yeah? That's not good for a custom, high end $10k pin, is it?

Good point. And I really don't know who is doing the programming right now, yes it's happening, but most likely a total idiot wouldn't you think?

Why would I think a total idiot is doing the programming?

I ask what should be a damn simple question, and this is the response?

If people don't even know who is doing the programming at this stage of the project, this thread will be even more useless than I thought it would be.

Not sure if you were responding to my questions, but disclosing the name of who is doing the programming is not a violation of the NDA. Nor is disclosing who is going to be assembling the pin.

Then don't participate in this "useless thread", no major thumbs up action here, just ignore and move on….you've exposed the worthlessness of this thread, congrats...

Look, I just want to know who else is in, what their thoughts are, and provide a place for others to get interested…..

We are all well aware of what you and Greg think, no need to stoke the BS over and over again!

Does that mean that you disagree? Are you saying that it would be a violation of the NDA to disclose the name of the programmer or who is assembling the pin?

Quoted from RobT:

You say the programming "is happening" but you don't know who is doing it?

I didn't say I didn't, Jpop just said, like JJP just experienced, there is a monumental amount of crap to integrate that Lcd with the game play, and probably why Stern can't/hasn't done it yet. Maybe it will be an epic fail, that is a big concern of mine, but I don't lose sleep about it.

I want to provide as much update as possible here without any kind of NDA violation which I think is becoming a whole lot less of an issue than in the beginning.

The idea should be to get the word out and let people know what's going on in the pinball world without hurting the IP……which is WAY overblown for many reasons

Changed to a thumbs up btw I'll post what I can confirm, not what I think based on comments made on the blog, shouldn't be any kind of NDA violation

It may never happen, you are correct! But "Zidware does not = Vaporware" and I certainly wouldn't bet against it….
