I've often said what the world needs is more pinball companies.

Quoted from TomGWI:How many pinball companies are there now? Starting to lose track.
Clearly not enough!!
Remember folks , "competition is good for pinball." For some reason that I've yet to fully understand.
I would also NEVER support any new Jpop venture!!!!
I mean, unless there were lots of magnets and novelty features recycled from old EMs, then I'd have to check it out. Sounds cool!
All I know is Jpop will never go away and he's a great source of forum drama so bring it on. Can't wait for the big RAZA and Alice in Wonderland reveals!
Quoted from cliff_clavin:Can a new company who never had any direct negotiations or a contract with zombie yeti actually use his work? Does the contract with Jpop give him complete ownership and control on how the art is use? But then again, wouldn't the contract with jpop be null and void since payment was not made in full??
hmmmmmmm
What if there's no written contract at all between folks like Yeti and the Juice and Jpop?
JPop doesn't strike me as a details/document guy. Big fan of his "please remit!" slips with the old timey hand pointing.
The deeproot carpetbaggers are probably just going to steal whatever they want anyway.
Everybody keeps talking about the big "pinball comeback" and how wonderful it is, but frankly, I think it fuckin sucks. We were better off when Stern was the only pinball company and NIB games were $4,000.
Now, we have about 10 pinball companies, Sterns are selling for $5,500, and every carpetbagger, johnny come lately, snake oil salesman, starry-eyed boutiquest and con man with a godaddy account is starting a new pinball company, charging $7,000, and ripping off everybody in site to try to get a seat on the gravy train before the whole thing derails and nosedives off the cliff.
I think we were better off when the only thing in pinball that really sucked was stuff like CSI.
I mean, hey, it's one way of looking at it.
Quoted from Ericc123:I would purchase a ticket to watch this experiment.
TNT Amusements, make this happen!
Quoted from lpeters82:Do you feel compfortable sharing who asked you this and when it was asked? It wouldnt surprise me if it were JPOP. If it was someone else at Deep Roots then that's enough for me to loose all hope for any positive resolution.
I don't understand why this is making everybody so upset. I mean, doesn't hurt to ask, right?
Quoted from John_I:And yes, ZY might consider creative ways of selling this art on eBay and cashing in that way rather than ever selling the rights back to Jpop.
He's been doing this for a year already.
Quoted from lpeters82:This to me shows their true character. If they are willing to do this to Yeti, it's just a matter of time before they pull this with the next person.
t.
These guys aren't hopping on the gravy train to make friends, they are doing it to try to make some money before this whole thing implodes. The fact that they are trying to steal artwork is pretty much the least surprising thing about this venture. People shouldn't take it personally this is how business works. Nice to hear Yeti isn't gonna play ball but nobody should be outraged here.
Whatever new pinball company pops up next week will probably behave the same way.
Quoted from lpeters82:I hope your wrong. In my view pinball is such a niche market that you can't succeed without having a group of loyal supporters. Take Spooky for example, they sure seem to be making money and making friends.
At least one major pinball company was once owned by the mob. You don't have to be of the highest character to survive in the pinball business. I'm sure they are nice guys but Spooky is a business too, and they've made some decisions that haven't exactly enamored some of their customers who I personally know.
Quoted from CaptainNeo:actually as far as build quality. gottlieb was the leader compared to anyone else. They are built like a brick shithouse.
That's great. Unfortunately they play like shitty Marv Thornberry.
Quoted from CaptainNeo:just saying. many spout off about build quality like it's the most important thing to them. Especially the JJP lovers. Oh build quality...build quality.... it's built so well. If that's the case. They need to buy Gottlieb system 3's.
The "build quality" of System 3s is just another reason I hate them.
Let's take the shittiest playing DMDs anybody ever built, and put them into a completely unnecessary GIGANTIC cabinet that you have to be 15 to be tall enough to play, on steroids to move, and own an 18-wheeler to transport without removing the head.
What the hell was going on over there in the 90s anyway?
Quoted from CraigC:Gottlieb's usual issue: resistance to change and failure to adapt.
I'm going out on a limb here, their EM glory days weren't even the best. they happened to just be more reliable than others and have better art. could have been that resistance to change helped them here by not going with the pointy people art that everyone else was in the 60s .

I like EMs from all of the big three. But all things considered - quality, art, gameplay - Gottlieb consistently produced the best games, even if they weren't the most "innovative." Bally and Williams produced FAR more turds.
Quoted from ForceFlow:Gottlieb had the first game with flippers with Humpty Dumpty in 1947. I'd consider that a big innovation at the time.
Yes that's nice and innovative.
I'm talking about the games I collect - 60s and 70s titles. For the most part they played it safe, and produced the best games.
It's a repeating theme in pinball, even now. Everybody clamors for "innovation" but that's not necessarily what makes the best games.
Quoted from Mr68:I hear Deeproot is re-making Street Fighter 2.
That was a very innovative title!
