Hi. Just got a JP and working through the normal "new to me" stuff. Was adjusting the pop bumpers (yes, with the power on - doh!) when they suddenly stopped working.
Replaced one obviously blown fuse on the power board, but they still didn't work. Noticed that the trigger to launch the ball and the smart missile button also don't work. Pulled and tested every fuse I could find and all look good. Hmmmm.

On a related note, I noticed this white wire hanging from a junction in the very middle of the playfield (see pic). Never had a Data East, so everything looks a bit strange to me. Could this be the source of the problem perhaps? Any guidance where this goes?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Jeff

Quoted from Jgel:

Here it is. Same thing. Some have it some don't. Don't know about the fuse.

Thanks Jason. On a side note. Per your suggestion....I did find two trough switches that were bent and looked to be making incorrect contact with the diodes. Hoping that fixed my other problem (though I've introduced new problems of course). There was an inlane switch that wasn't registering before and once I bent them back, that problem went away. Fingers crossed.

Quoted from dmklunk:

TI wound up having to replace one of the chips on the board (number U something) to get it working.

Thanks Derek. Hope I've not done that much damage. Appreciate anyone else's suggestions about how to track that down / confirm.

Update: OK, when you gamble, you sometimes lose (like when adjusting leaf switches while the machine is on). Was able to track down my "fuse" issue. I did a coil test and confirmed that I had power to the pop bumpers. Took a look at the switch matrix and saw that all failing switches were on the same column. Looked at the column wire (green-blue) and checked all switch connections - looked good. Unplugged the connectors at CN10 and CN8 and did a test of pin 7 (failing column) against all pins on CN10 with switch test on. None worked. Problem is on the board. Pinwiki Repair guide says this is a blown transistor at Q48. 2N3904. Will pick one up and replace it in the next couple of days. Hopefully that's it.
