First time installing new ramps and wondering if the flat metal piece should be transferred to the new ramp as well. Already transferred the bracket and the switch plate. What is the function? Is it necessary? Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

Yes.

What is the function?

Supports ramp in a spot prone to breakage.

Is it necessary?

Yes. Unless you want to keep replacing broken ramps.
