Picked up a Jokerz! last week. Cab is a little rough, but the playfield was ok(not great, but ok). I took a couple of pics. It was lacking a power board, so I'm waiting for that now.
One terrible thing did happen. This thing didn't have a latch on the back or head bolts. When I lifted it to put bolts in, the lamp board swung out and caused it to tip. I caught it, but the edge of the board broke the center ramp.
Anyway, I'm looking at some repair options, but if someone has a ramp for sale, it would be much appreciated.

I'm still hunting for the center to left lock ramp, if someone has one in good condition.

While waiting on ramps, I am cleaning it up. Got a blue display that I think looks really good. I love the sounds.

My inserts are shot. You can see from the pics that many are unreadable. So, I picked up some decals from ebay. I was planning on installing them and slapping a playfield protector over it and call it a day. It works except for the skin tones. I feel like it will draw attention. The only options I see are install it and don't worry, or cut out every insert part and leave the table dingy. Thoughts?

With the help of JodyG ramps, I'm almost finished reassembling. Have a couple of bugs to work out, but this went from a possible parts machine to a decent looking players machine. My wife cut out the table decals and placed them, then I covered the whole thing in a protector.
I thought that blue pops looked better than red, so made that change. Also changed to a blue display. Have to finish the ramp decals, re-rivet the tray and reconnect everything on the tray. Then, I'll do some paint matching and touch up on the cabinet and call it a day.

Wondering if anyone has any tips on owning the machine, or owning a pinball machine in general?

Devour the pinside threads on maintenance. Especially Vid's guides.
Keep a set of consumable items around. Balls, fuses, lamps.
I like the 5v displays for these Sys11 machines. I used a blue one on mine, and a red one on Black Knight 2000.
Think about converting to LEDs to put less of a strain on the power system and reduce heat.
Keep the playfield cleaned and waxed.
Get a copy of the manual.
Start thinking of where you fit #2.

Dude! That looks sweet!
Nice work and congrats!

I just replaced my lock ramp as well from JodyG.
Was this to keep for a while or for resale?

Thanks! I haven't decided yet, since I haven't got to play it as a fully functional machine yet.
Here's some pics of the pf with the ramp decals on.

Any thoughts or advice as to how to fix?

If you squint hard on my pic above, you can see that there is supposed to be a little black spacer in the front left hole(from the camera's POV) of that piece. This lifts mine up fairly high, and I never see a ball hit it.

I THINK that it might be this one(but I'll need to go measure it tomorrow to make sure): https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/03-8022-1

#226 3 years ago

Ok, had a moment to go measure. It looks somewhere in the neighborhood of .7 inches, so maybe this is actually the spacer: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/03-8022-6

I would probably get a few of each size that Marco has(since they are cheap and you can get a few for the same shipping) and test out which ones work best in your machine. When I measured mine, it was actually floating a little, so it's not even holding the plastic up(the plastic is stick up on its own). So, it is a little higher even than the spacer. So, get some of the two above and maybe one of these as well, just in case it needs more space: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/03-8022-2

Anyway, good luck!

#228 3 years ago

Actually, once I got to thinking about, you have two options.
1) Adjust the height of the ramp via the spacers on the posts.
2) Adjust the height of the ramp.

When you PM'd me, I didn't think that there was a way to raise the ramp. However, I realized that the ramp just sits on the black plastic bar. If you use some double sided tape to attach a piece of plastic there, like a square of PETG, it could raise it just enough, hopefully without raising the ramp above the playfield in the down position.

#231 3 years ago
Quoted from fixintoplay:

If you're referring to the flat lexan piece with the "double your score" decal, it is missing on my machine, and I don't have the issue you do. Hint hint.

That's another option. I am still adjusting mine, so I haven't tried it with no plastic.

#235 3 years ago

Hmm, not sure what would cause the ramp to do that. It's a pretty simple mechanism. Are you bending the position switches to change it?

On mine, I have a repo center ramp from Jody. It's a bit thicker than the originals, so I ended up putting a couple of rubber rings(5/32 I believe) under the screw to raise it slightly. I can hit the ramp all the time. About the only problem is that I occasionally get an airball off the turn when the ball is launched perfectly. I'll likely make a small lexan protector to keep that from happening.

#238 3 years ago

Ok, so I took some pics last night when I was adjusting things. I haven't done anything with the ramp mech itself. There's not a lot mechanically going on there. It's just sitting on the black plastic piece which pushes it up and down. I'm going to add a small piece of plastic underneath to raise it very slightly, since I added a playfield protector and it has a slight lip.
The other pic is of the center ramp when I started playing with the height. I ended up using the rubber rings on the top, which allow me to compress it a bit and get the fit perfect.

I bought mine from cointakers. They had the better deal, and I like working with them in general.

Mine needs one badly. Did you sand it with 220 and applied the overlay?

No overlay. I just cleaned up the playfield some, cut out and applied insert decals and then laid the protector over it.

Anyone ever seen this one before? It shows a music failure. Does the soundboard need to be recapped?

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/jokerz-music-failure-00-567-l6

#263 3 years ago

I had that happen once. I would jump on it, except that I'm not planning on recapping mine any time soon, so I'll let it go to someone with a more immediate need.

A little new to the pinball world :/. Able to elaborate on what this is? thank you!

The driver is a MOSFET on the main board. It acts like a switch to turn the solenoid on and off. In general, you work your way back from the coil. Grab a schematic from ipdb and it will show you which MOSFET drives that solenoid. There are guides on testing it. Google for " pinwiki system 11" for a start. Could also be an intermittent short in the wiring, so check that, too.

#282 3 years ago

Just as an FYI, if you replacing the battery anyway, I recommend going with Frank's battery board. I have one in my BK2K and Jokerz and they are really nice. Just uses a coin battery, and I've even installed them without removing the board from the machine.
Here's an example: ebay.com link: Franks Battery Board Williams Systems 7 11 pinballs Pro Black Edition CR2032

#283 3 years ago

But, I would also say, don't send the board in for repair until you have at least verified that it is the board. Run though some diagnostics first. What is the behavior when you run the solenoid tests in the test mode? Does it keep activating randomly? Does it activate at the same time as another solenoid?

Looks nice! Were the holes pretty much aligned with the actual playfield?

#299 2 years ago

Those are called t-nuts. Like this: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/4406-01118-00

You have to know the thread size. Probably 6-32 or 8-32, but I don't remember. You can bring it to a hardware store to find out. Buy a handful.

When I redid my jokerz, I discovered that several of those posts were staked in permanently, for some damn reason. I lucked out with spares, but you can measure them and pick up some at Marcos at the same time.

#301 2 years ago
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

think they used locktite from the factory. i broke more of these in jokerz than any other game ive ever shopped ( about 60 }

I quit taking them out of Jokerz when every one of them broke. Craziness.

Sorry, I realized I linked the wrong side sling.

I need to strip mine down to fix the playfield protector soon, so I could try to scan in the plastics. Then, you could have it printed and make a plastic, like I did for dracula.

#332 2 years ago
Quoted from meSz:

How/where did you get the Dracula printed at? How did they turn out? I have never seen someone do this so interested in seeing how things were done.

I scanned in the original. Since I was creating a brick pattern, I had my son design a new image. I had it printed at the local FedEx print shop on the glossiest regular weight paper. Then, I used 3m double sided adhesive to apply it to some polycarbonate I got from home depot. I used a dremel with a cutting bit, a small sander and files to shape it, and sprayed the back with several layers of spray can clear coat.

I converted my pop caps to blue, and used cool white. I think it is better looking than the more red look. I also used a blue LED display.

It's also the same board used in scared stiff.

I'd buy a decently priced Jokerz all day long. It's the most popular game I have with newbies.

#477 1 year ago
Quoted from RetroRambler:

Is $1800 decently priced. The pictures of the playfield look good but the cabinet has some fading of the blue.

I'm not a stickler for cabinet wear, so yeah, if the rest is good, go for it. If you get there and it has problems, adjust accordingly of course.

1800? 2000? Holy moly prices for this B-list title are insane!

That's true across the board. Even EMs around here have been shooting up in price.

Sounds like ROMs are the last best bet, if a CPU swap isn't fixing it.
