Got lucky and this was my first pinball machine when I got into the hobby just over 2 years ago.

Quoted from Frippertron:

What are the rule differences between the EM and the SS? I forgot. Which is the better player? I know the EM commands a higher price due to rarity.

Double-bonus on the EM vs 5x bonus on the SS, and I do not believe the drop targets reset during a ball on the em.

Here is something I saved that I ran across a long time ago, not sure of the source.

"The EM and SS Joker Pokers are like playing two completely different
games as far as the rulesets go. With the SS, the 5x bonus is
achieved by knocking down the appropriate lit target bank. With the
EM, double bonus is achieved when the ABC rollovers are scored and
unlit. The points scored per DT are different between the two styles
too. With the EM, the ace and king DTs are worth 1000pts., while all
others are worth 500pts. With the solid state, all DTs are worth
500pts., and once a bank is cleared and resets, the DTs are worth
5000pts. On the SS, you are always spotted a lit bonus, depending on
the ball in play (ie. ball 1 spots 1000, ball 2 spots 2000, etc.
during a 5 ball game). With the EM, you are never spotted a bonus.

There are a couple of other little nuances, but the biggest difference
is the resetting of the DTs. On the EM, the DTs won't reset during a
ball in play. So, once all of the DTs are down, the only thing left
to shoot for are the ABC rollovers for double bonus, the extra ball
target, or the special rollover, provided that these things haven't
been achieved yet. It makes the PF seem very vacant when all the
drops are down. However, with the SS, the ace, king, queen, and 10 /
jack DT banks reset once a specific bank is cleared (ie. once all
three queen DTs are dropped, they will reset, all four kings are down,
they reset, etc.)."

Quoted from woz:

That makes sense - with the EM you are rewarded for completing the ABC sequence by getting a double bonus...with the SS you get no additional reward apart from maybe 5000.
I wonder if Gottlieb made the EM playfield and rules first (highly likely I would imagine) and as they were going to use the same playfield for the SS, not worry about trying to incorporate the A & C outlanes fully into the rules.

If I ever get around to getting one (or more) of the LISY1 boards it would be fun to set it up with basically the EM rules but with drop target reset on bank completion and 5x bonus. Lots of possibilities with those boards, make it switchable modes in the menus.

yes, you are missing the whole locking mechanism. I saw a setup for that for sale recently, but I don't know where if I run across it I'll let you know. attached is what it looks like. that machine (hulk) has a pascal all-in-one board which is why you don't see any boards in the picture.

Quoted from FatPanda:

Cool, I'll definitely take a look.
As far as backbox removal, I assume it's 4 head bolts and detaching connectors. Anything else I need to know?

should be 4 screws on the back of the head through the metal rail into the neck, at the bottom of the metal rail. often missing but good for holding head while removing the bolts and connectors inside. here is a pic of my Hulk showing the screws (can't see the 4th one).

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Confused. So it’s multiple switches? Figured it would just be one like other games. This is my first system 1 though.

The 10 point switches are the ones behind the rubbers scattered about, behind drop targets etc.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

I have a pascal board in my joker poker. Anyone know if it’s possible to turn off EBs and set special to award points?
I thought I found the EB setting, but no matter what I choose, EBs get awarded.
Thanks!

it may depend on which version, but switch 52 should set special to 50,000 points instead of replay. switch 60 should set extraball to award 10,000 points.

both of those are in the DIP switch Plus menu. also note I have not tried these, just reading the manual I have.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

So those additional adjustments did the trick! They turn off EBs and award 10k for each EB and special earned.

cool, although I like getting extra balls I'm sure would be good for league play and such.

Quoted from John_In_WI:

Opinions wanted...
I'm starting on a PF swap and need to do something about my play field rails. They're kind of ugly to begin with having that wood grain contact paper on them that really doesn't match anything else on the machine. Mine are pretty beat up as well.
So, going to have Leon make me a set. My first inclination was to just have them cleared leaving the natural color and wood grain. Now I'm wondering how black would look.
So what would you do? Black, natural, or ???

Joker Poker I will probably do natural when I get to mine, or for something different maybe white. Hulk I did black, but I think goes better with the art, pinball pool I did natural maple cause I like the grain pattern.

Quoted from Tyamry:

Can someone tell me what size the screws are that attach the head to the lower cabinet? TIA

If you are referring to the ones behind the head that go through the vent strips into t-nuts, they are #10-32 1" long.

The ones in the backbox to bolt it down are 3/8"-16 3-3/4" long.

Quoted from Billc479:

For 5 ball
first ball is 10
Second ball is jacks
Third ball is queens
Fourth ball is kings
Fifth ball is aces
I forget what three ball is, but it’s in the manual.

for 3 ball play it is 10s for ball 1, queens for ball 2, and aces for ball 3

this is for the SS version, the EM does not light any at the beginning of the ball.
