John from John's Arcade was given an all access tour to the Stern Pinball factory, guided by George Gomez. The video's awesome, check it out!

    #2 4 years ago

Thanks. Always loved his vids when collecting arcade games.

    #3 4 years ago

    I'm watching it now.
So a Stern LCD backbox is coming soon!

I don't have time to watch that long video, did they show the prototype? Or just mention it? Because they've been mentioning it now for years, that's not news in and of itself.

    #5 4 years ago

George opened the magic door to "The Cafeteria" but closed it just as fast.
    It was just a mention.

    #6 4 years ago

wow, best factory video ive ever seen

    #7 4 years ago

This is the next best thing to taking a factory tour yourself. Well done!

Yet you have time to comment on just about every single post on Pinside? WTF

for the down voters! This is tongue in cheek, RELAX.

    #9 4 years ago
    Quoted from Aurich:

I don't have time to watch that long video,

The action starts at 6 minutes in.

    LCD acknowledgement at 52 minutes.

    #10 4 years ago

John's videos keep getting better and better. Hopefully we can get him a real camera rig with stabilization instead of the floaty camera that's happening in that video

Guessing this wrapped up game covered in black in the corner is the newest game in testing...

I knew it! Black backbox, legs, cabinet... Ghostbusters confirmed.

    #13 4 years ago

Yeah Stern has some real professionals working together. They all should be very proud. Thanks George! But not even a teaser hint??

    #14 4 years ago

Hey John, May I offer a word of advice: Decaf!

    Great video, btw.

    #15 4 years ago

What is a RBION doing on the factory floor around the 31 minute mark?

    Quoted from mtdouble:

What is a RBION doing on the factory floor around the 31 minute mark?

    Probably a test platform

    #17 4 years ago

46:48 is very interesting? Spiderman wiring??

    #18 4 years ago
    Quoted from fattrain:

Guessing this wrapped up game covered in black in the corner is the newest game in testing...

Actually what's more interesting is the white wood in the lower right hand corner, you can see just enough of the insert details to confirm which one that is.

    #19 4 years ago

Stern needs to make a proper factory tour video.

One with hot chicks carrying around gold AK47's & passing around bacon sandwiches while TronLE VE's are being built & Riff Raff hosts the show.

    Man, that would be sweet.

    #20 4 years ago
    Quoted from vid1900:

    Probably a test platform

Sorry, what could they be testing?

    #21 4 years ago

Wow. It really is hard to make pinball

    Thanks for the great insight

    #22 4 years ago

Anyone notice one of the wiring harness boards was titled Bill Pro. Is that a reference to Star Trek or Ghostbusters? Does anyone recall what they were calling Star Trek? GOT was called political something... and you can see it next to the Bill wiring harness board. Is this a clue?

    Thanks
    Dougram69

    #23 4 years ago

Bill pro is Star Trek. As mentioned above at 46:48 there is a board shown that says Green Goblin Flash and Doc Magnet

    Quoted from DavidPinballWizz:

Great catch - you can clearly read Green Goblin Flash, DOC Flash, Venom Flash, Sandman Flash.

Yeah...this is the best Stern tour video I've ever seen. Great info, and hey! You get to see GOT LE being assembled!

    Thanks, John!

    #27 4 years ago

This was another home run video, great job John, great job George, I really enjoyed this one.

    #28 4 years ago

Great video John. George is an excellent speaker and quite interesting. Always enjoy hearing him.

    #29 4 years ago

Is that what John looks like? I've always just known him as an arm with a white watch on it.

    #30 4 years ago
    Quoted from mtdouble:

Sorry, what could they be testing?

That same Ripley's cabinet has been showing in factory photos for years. And yes, testing, as in drop in a whitewood into a cabinet and test it or the like. It's just an empty cab that's convenient to use.

He has a thumb too! Pay attention!

Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed the video. I gotta say, Stern is super cool and very accommodating. We had such a great time. George Gomez is indeed a personal hero of mine, I couldn't believe he was the one giving the tour. AMAZING! What a great day!

My camera does have optical stabilization. I think it does a good job. Special thanks to Mark Shields (Time Runner) my camera man in this video!

From another thread. And the pinside dectectives.
    In Johns video too.
    Harold pro.
And its node cables so its for sure spike system wires.

    Next game?

    480033-i.jpg

    #35 4 years ago

So you can tell just by the harness wiring whether or not it's the new Spike system? The picture shown for the SM harness means it's SAM? Interesting.

Harold as in Harold Ramis? That would be Ghostbusters then.

I dont keep up on speculation threads but if it is gb ,will it be be from old original or the new one ? Im assuming the new one ?

    #38 4 years ago

Spooks, monsters and ghouls got you down? The Ghost Busters will save the day!

    #39 4 years ago

heard that ghost busters will be the first with a lcd and will have a second playfield - here's hoping

Looks like they've expanded and upgraded the Great Wall of Microwaves with the new factory. Even colour blocked them!

Is it normal for a factory to have so many microwaves, or is it just a Stern thing? Maybe they're used in part of the manufacturing process. Bending plastics? Heating wax? Frying Sparky?

Edit: Just watched the actual video where George goes into a bit depth more depth on the Microwave issue.

As George explained in the video, everyone goes to lunch at once, so that many are needed to meet the supply.
My question is, how many power sources are those microwaves plugged into?

    #44 4 years ago

They are there for low line voltage tests on their new spike system

    #45 4 years ago

Wait a minute, this video is called a "All Access" tour of Stern.
    That's not true.
George wouldn't let them see into the development room.
This is pure bait and switch!

Someone has "heard" that the next game will have an LCD for years. I'm tired of even thinking about it. Some day Stern will stumble out of the DMD dark ages, but who knows when.

    You assume wrong.

    ORIGINAL!

New one doesn't come out till summer and no one knows if it will be good - and even if it is, there's no built in nostalgia. The pin is coming soon & Ghostbusters '84 has built in multi-generational love for guaranteed sales.

    Thank goodness lol

And you better love the Ghostbusters song because I bet it will be looping over and over while you play.

Hopefully someone at Stern played Farsight's Ghostbusters and knows not to do that. Ghostbusters Theme multiball? Perfect, awesome.
