Totally stumped.

• hand was working flawlessly until I had a pin-night and the hand caught a wire in the back and decided to wrap it around the opto board.
• now I am getting hand self test failed.
• No movement at all, but hand moves easily manually.
• switches all work
• replaced hand opto boards
• re-flowed the board that connects to the hand
• new magnet and wiring harness

I welcome ANY ideas on what to test next. Have tools will try almost anything.

Thanks!

Well.. D19 & D21 are now locked on. So looks like I have bigger problems. Yikes!

U20 and U15 were causing it not to boot... hurm.

What should I measure at the motors? Checked and re-seated all connectors. Same deal. Also I think I have a bad chip in my U20 as the coin door buttons are only half working. Might have a row out.

Thanks Axl, no fix in there for me sadly.

Quoted from WeirPinball:

Was it a switch wire that pulled loose? If the voltage from the motor got in the switch harness you have a cpu problem.

It wasn't in the switch cables... and the wire that it pulled didn't disconnect, got lucky I guess. That said I'll see if I can borrow another CPU board from someone and test. Good idea. Thanks Weir Pinball!

Perhaps somebody more versed can help me with this. J107 according to this image should putting out 20 V. Is this continuous or only when the CPU board tells it to? As of right now the red and white wire is not putting out anything. IMG_9728 (resized).JPGIMG_9728 (resized).JPG
If it's continuous then I definitely have a power issue. Otherwise I have a CPU board switch matrix issue

Totally.. here is some that info

So the wire got caught on the rod and then what?
Hand stopped working I discovered weeks later when I was playing the game.
Did it blow any fuses?
Nope, but it did blow up the hand opto board.
Did the game reset?
Nope
Did the hand suddenly stop?
Yep!
I don't think anything like you're describing would have happened with the wire getting pulled. So the problem is elsewhere, first off go in the switch test and then the coil test...is everything else working?
Switch test is good. It was like there was no power from the board.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Thanks! I'll pull the board and inspect / test

Quoted from Law:

If that wire took a lot of abuse, it may have sheared off inside the insulation. Make sure you have continuity when probing both ends and wiggling it around.
Have you determined what that wire is? Power? Ground? Sounds like it's not a switch connection.
Also- might be a dumb question, but are the motors turning on without driving the hand anywhere?

The motors are not turning on or moving at all. The wire that was stretched was a flasher wire and a check for continuity so I know it didn't do anything bad there. Still stumped welcome any next things to check.

The plot thickens
TP1 = 15
Tp2 = 5v
TP3 = 12
TP4 = 0
TP7 = 0
TP6 = 90 then drops to 75

Testing continuity between U1 / U2 I noticed this. Yikes but.... J104-5 is listed as N/C so WTF now I am confused is this related or perhaps I just found an unrelated issue.

Quoted from GRUMPY:

How big is the fuse for F-111?

5A SB and installed. Fuse is good.
