Gorgeous restored JM Proto whitewood. I purchased this about a month ago from someone who purchased it from Greg Davis. It has the white wood playfield with red prototype boards. Totally restored cabinet with custom decals. All chrome trim done by Mike Chestnut. Custom topper.
Since I have owned it I have added all LED lamps including the back box and a Pinball Pro 3 piece speaker system and installed new rubber and super bands flipper rubber. I paid 4k for it and put a few hundred more into it so I am hoping to get what I paid for it or trade for another pinball machine. It just doesn't do much for me in my current 1 game collection. Would be interested in a really nice Bram Stokers Dracula or let me know what you have.
I can ship with NAVL or strap it to a pallet with cardboard box.

Forgot to mention the translite is signed by John Youssi.

#3 10 years ago

Well, that JM looks pretty sweet. GLWTS

#4 10 years ago

So what, all the art is on a big mylar sheet? Just tryin' to understand that apron card..

#5 10 years ago

That's pretty damn cool!

#6 10 years ago

I believe so. The artwork is printed on a mylar over the white wood.

#7 10 years ago

I never really care for proto's but this one has me really interested!!!!

#8 10 years ago

It is on Ebay with a few additional photos. Ebay ID SoCalPinballs

Yeah, the thing looks amazing. Really wish the art was screened to the wood and cleared over but what can you do...it still looks awesome.

#10 10 years ago

It plays as nice as it looks. Glove works perfectly. Definitely a unique game.

#11 10 years ago

Ok I'm confused. I just looked at his original ad and it said 3k. So you paid him more than he was asking?

#12 10 years ago

I didn't purchase it from Greg. I was told Greg was asking 5k for it. I purchased it from someone who bought it from Greg. I do not know what the person I purchased it from paid for the machine. That is between him and Greg. I only know what I paid.

#14 10 years ago

Great looking example SCP. GLWYS.

Greg was asking $3K which was a heck of a deal!

If that's what it sold for that is a great deal. I imagine Greg invested far more than 3k into the machine. Again I didn't purchase it from Greg. Greg is in Arizona from what I understand and I purchased it in Los Angeles.

#17 10 years ago

I have had 2 trade offers but both involve shipping our pins to each other which makes it a little more difficult. I prefer to trade locally please.

#18 10 years ago

Pretty sure Greg sold it to Don up in Beverly Hills and I think it went for a bit under the 3K it was listed for, Not sure on that but I know it was not more then 3k, If you bought it from a guy named Don or Alex and they told you they bought it for 5k thats a Lie. I was offered this game for 5k on Jan 23 by Alex via text and when I saw the pics I called him out on it and referenced the Pinside thread were Greg was selling it for 3k 3 weeks prior,he admitted to me it was Don who bought it and the story kinda changed. I wish you the best and hope you get what your asking as its a very Rare Piece and in fantastic condition and its value is really how bad someone wants it,I just wanted you to know the backstory on my end and what I experienced,it seems to me they will stretch the truth a bit about what they payed to make a profit, no big deal if your looking to make some money on a game but just be honest. I used to be friends with Alex but to much Shady actions like this have changed that. GLWYS.

Thanks for a little background on it Joe. I don't know anyone named Alex. I purchased it from someone named Don in Beverly Hills along with another pin. I didn't go to his house to buy the JM but when I saw it I was blown away by it and wanted it for myself. Don seems like a really nice guy to me with a beautiful collection. I honestly don't know what he paid for it as that is between the buyer and seller.
I think the game is gorgeous and planned to keep it but I just can't really get into it. I usually only have 1 - 4 games of my own and right now the JM is my only pin so I got burned out on it fairly quick. Really hoping to get another BSD. If you are interested in it Joe please shoot me an offer. I agree it is not a game for everyone. Thanks again for the info.

If it weren't for the "theme" - which I quite enjoy actually - JM would be a top 20 pin IMO. Few pins offer the solid rules, excitement, music/dots, cool toy and great shots that JM delivers.

This white wood looks great.

#21 10 years ago

If it were on the east coast I'd be all over it! Gorgeous pin! GLWS!

#22 10 years ago

I can ship it no problem. Make me an offer if you want to.

#23 10 years ago

How is the art sheet attached to the playfield?

#24 10 years ago

Does anyone know if it would be possible to safely auto clearcoat over a bare whitewood playfield with the printed mylar sheet like this? The biggest thing that kept me from buying it when Greg originally had it for sale is that I'd be scared to play such a rare (but unprotected) pin. I'd have to limit my playtime on the game and put up velvet ropes whenever inviting friends' over to play my pins as I wouldn't want the artwork to get ruined!

#25 10 years ago

It seems to be laid down over the bare playfield and then all the assemblies installed after. It doesn't seem to be glued down in any way but it doesn't move at all when playing. Not sure about clear coating it.

#26 10 years ago

Yep, sounds exactly like the proto whitewood CV that shows up at Expo occasionally with very early software and the "gay" Ringmaster. I think the sheet is held down by the mechs and taped down where needed (or adhesive used). Definitely NOT something one could clearcoat over IMHO.

#27 10 years ago

I have no idea how much playing time this machine has seen but the playfield seems to hold up extremely well.

#28 10 years ago

Thanks for the Response SoCalPinballs and yes Don is the guy I was Talking about up in BH and Alex is his Buddy. I have never met Don so I cant comment on him just what I have heard from other people doing dealings with him, some positive and some negative. Alex on the other hand I would not deal with myself anymore. I am not interested in the game as I have a really nice one in my collection, but I know for a fact anything that comes from Greg is spectacular. Once again GLWYS I am sure it will not last long. Glad I could add a bit of backstory on my end. PM me if you have any other questions.

super cool.

I have had a couple people ask about whether the mylar will wear over time. The machine is 20 years old and I don't see any signs of it wearing. It should stay that way for a very long time.

Correct, that is exactly as I remember it. Must be printed with the black side down. Absolutely no way to clear over this as there would be nothing adhering the mylar down to the playfield. It could probably be removed and scanned for posterity or to reprint the sheet in case the original gets damaged.

Also whereas the whitewood itself is a prototype, the ink on the mylar sheet I believe is the final production black lines. You can see in several places where the inserts in the playfield are not in the same spot as the blacklines. Most noticeably in the outlanes and at the lower exit from the pop bumpers.

Will sell for $4,400.00 shipped anywhere in the continental US.

Great looking game... Wanted to ask as most of the whitewood protos came with unfinished code for testing, does this pin have the complete code installed? I'm assuming it does but I thought I would ask. I'm so tempted on snagging this up. Thanks

Cool game

Tough game to sell apparently. I can offer 4k shipped on a pallet.

Rough; I am sorry you were apparently burned on this one.

This seemed like such a smokin' deal at 3K, 4K shipped seems more than a fair price IF this is the sort of collector's item you are after.

Compared to the Fake LE nonsense of the NIB market, here is what an acutal collectible pinball looks like. Wishing you luck with the sale!

#47 10 years ago

For some strange reason, I want this game, and I have never even played a JM before. I think it looks awesome and the rare factor is cool. And since we have already gotten 3 of our pins from you, I know you are a great seller. Sadly, my pin money is tied up in a paid in full Predator right now, so there's no way to justify it. Good luck with the sale!

#48 10 years ago

Thanks BC but I don't feel I got burned. I have really enjoyed owning the game and I feel it is worth much more than I paid but I realize it is a game that is not for everyone. Really looking to get a BSD to replace it. I don't have the funds at this time to have more than 1 pin of my own otherwise I would like to keep it.

#49 10 years ago

Thanks Melinda. I appreciate that. If you come up with the funds I might still have it.

#50 9 years ago

I can also reduce the price by $500.00 if I remove the chrome trim and put on standard trim and coin door. The chrome mirror blades would stay on. That would be 3500.00 shipped on a pallet for a gorgeous one of a kind pin.
