Hey all, just picked up a JM today. Glove was not working. I'm putting together a parts order immediately. Already ordered a new X nut and a spare opto, are there any other cheap 'go to' parts I should just grab to have on hand?

2: can anyone explain where the X home switch is? I can't seem to find it, and it's hard to see behind.

3: can anyone explain when the Y home switch should open and close? It looks like it'll open when the glove is at its furthest back point on mine, and stay closed the rest of the time; is that correct?

4: can anyone explain (or have a video) of what the self test should do when functioning properly? the manual is very useless here... mine just moves back and forth a bit on the X axis and then says error, even though all the switches are toggling properly

Quoted from 27dnast:

You really need to remove the entire back panel, mechanism and all, to work on the glove. Once you do, you can see everything and makes the process infinitely easier

Thats not going to answer any question besides #2. Useless to take the whole thing out if I don't understand how it works and don't have any parts on hand

Quoted from kvan99:

The adjustments can be done by tweaking the switch with bracket or by lifting or dropping bracket itself

My problem is I don't know what the switches *should* be doing. When should they be open, when should they close. I can't adjust them properly if I don't know how they should work.

Quoted from kvan99:

you need to list your problem if you want help..get specific.

The bracket that holds the glove on (and closes/opens the Y home switch) vibrated loose during transport, one screw fell out completely. I'm trying to reassemble everything now.. I put everything together in a 'best guess' on how it would work, and read every post I could find on glove issues, but couldn't find the answers to these questions. Want to make sure everything is as it should be before I bother asking for any specific troubleshooting help.

Quoted from GRUMPY:

They are limit switches. There are also opto switches to. When the x,y rods spin they turn a plastic wheel with cutouts for the opto switches to sense where the hand is. Since your hand stops right away I would think you are having troubles with the optos.

They are limit switches yes, but what position is considered the 'limit'? Is it one corner? Somewhere in the middle? I can't ensure they're working right if I don't know where they should close/open.

All the optos are functioning fine in switch test.

Quoted from kvan99:

The switch on the left of the whole assy gets closed when the carriage goes all the way to the left. This is home. The 2nd switch, the one on the glove assy under bracket is used to stop the hand over the VUK to capture ball .

So the Y home switch should... open when the glove is over the vuk? Close? From the construction it seems like it'll be open for half the Y range and closed for the other half, which seems weird to me

Quoted from 27dnast:

Ha e you tried looking at glove assembly diagram in the manual?
https://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-pinball/J/Johnny_Mnemonic_OPS.pdf

Yes, but it doesn't show how things should align, just how they connect together

#3435 4 years ago
Quoted from matiou:

The Y switch should be open when the glove is far from you. When travelling towards you, it should close approximately half way (ball capture point) and stay closed all the way to the front.

Thanks!

Probably a long shot but does anyone have a spare one of these guides, or know where one is available? Mine seems to be missing and balls in the left column end up going down the left ramp instead of into the pops.

Quoted from PinRob:

Spray paint the 3D one gray.

It's the blocky shape, not the color, that annoys me. I've got my own printer anyway though, it wouldn't be a big deal to print one in the worst case, but I would prefer a more professional looking replacement or an original before I resort to that

Lol, I managed to get one from PPS... and it's just the ugly 3d printed one from mezelmods. Even has their label on the bag. Doesn't match the pic on PPS's site at all

#3453 4 years ago

FYI, avoid the mezelmods 3d printed diverter. Had multiple issues with it already. Ball hang ups, wrong sized hole etc. I think it's a complete loss, will need to make my own

Has anyone ever had problems with the glove picking up two balls during multiplayer games?

Quoted from grantopia:

Just picked up a Johnny after about a year of looking! After getting it all set up I was getting tons of balls flying off the left ramp. It looks like there should be a plastic cover there which is missing...my initial search isn't turning up anything. Is there a source for these or a known fix if not?
Also noticed I was missing the small ball guide that diverts the ball to the pops when the glove tray empties out. Don't suppose I'll be able to find one of these either...
Let me know if there is any hope out there or if I just need to try and fabricate something myself. Thanks!

Had the same question recently: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/johnny-mnemonic-is-there-an-owners-club-yet/page/69#post-5324126

Nycon who makes a nice clear one did get back to me saying he might have some left over, but then I never heard anything back again after

#3477 4 years ago

pinbits sells a plastic protector set which includes a protector for that plastic, however both my original plastic and the protector (which matches the plastic) have a hole that doesn't align with my actual ramp.

Does anyone else have that issue?

#3481 4 years ago

Do other people's games award the right ramp jackpot instantly on starting multiball if it's selected? It seems like when it dumps the balls, the balls on the right ramp enter before the right ramp scoring switch, which awards the jackpot (while on the left ramp they enter below the switch). Something wrong, or just a coding overlook?

Should both x and y rods manually rotate easily? The side to side rotates easily, not the front to rear.
thx

X is left to right. My Y is harder than my X, but both can be done by hand. I've never found the supposed updated service bulletin for the hand

Quoted from izzy:

thx for the info. I think the gear mech most be gummed up.

Can't hurt to take the screw rods out, clean all the old grease off, and apply some new stuff

Quoted from FilthyRich:

The Matrix Solved!
I have read on this forum that the Matrix Awards' positions are random but I have discovered that they are not.
I have worked out how to know the position of all the 9 Matrix Awards by putting one ball into the Matrix OR a maximum of three balls into Crazy Bob's.
Should I publish how it is done? It would be a real spoiler for tournament play.

Does it match this?

If you read the rest of that thread, I think you'll find the whole game is already sorta ruined for tournament play :/

Quoted from allsportdvd:

Only new code is going to change that scoring. Maybe Soren will do the code one day, did a great job on Roadshow

You could technically make a "spinner divider" little board... Either a smart one using a tiny cpu to read the spinner and fake a switch closure on the first spin and then every subsequent X spins, or a dumb one using a few logic chips

I think the best thing though would be for Soren to mod it so that the spinner points don't go to bonus, you just score them immediately, so you can't have your score go crazy from playing with the bonus hold/x/collect and ball 3 bug

#3619 3 years ago
Quoted from Luppin:

of course an entire new code would be great, but who knows when/if will be done. probably the logic chips are a relatively quick solution. im no techy at all: do u think it can be done individually by a technician, or needed to be produced by some mod producer in hundreds?

You could just make it on some perf board by hand, or order a few PCBs cheap. No need for bulk construction. I think the main issue would be getting 5V to that area of the playfield somehow
