Still plugging away, we've swapped the PC in the machine for a dual core unit to take advantage of MPF0.30 we now have a trailer that plays every hour or so of attract.
Playing with a new game soundtrack similar to what's in the attract mode. The idea to make the game like being in a film, We have talked about being able to have it play custom soundtracks via bluetooth. Imagine rocking up to a game and it playing your tunes as you play (that may not happen any time soon), also it controlling HUE lights so you could have a full immersive experience...

Looks great. I haven't read the whole thread in awhile so apologies if this has been discussed but on the sounds... the soundtrack of that movie is one of the most iconic features about it. Louis and Bebe Barron created vacuum tube circuits and basically recorded the sounds of them dying (to make an oversimplification). It is a wildly influential score within the music community, particularly among ambient, electronic, and film composers. It'd be great to have a mode where it was just the same sorts of sounds but reactive to the playfield, no traditional music whatsoever.

They were also ostracized because of the unions at the time.

The soundtrack just doesn't work in a pinball machine. Not enough music! I've agonized over this since the start and my compromise is to use excerpts as effects and also it's in the background of video clips.

Now for a little humour!

Centre ramp in action, GI used as a strobe, multiball.

#359 7 years ago

Cool!

... but it would be great to see the ball actually flippered up the ramp.

#360 7 years ago

Looks great! I can't wait to have one in my home!

It's coming, baby steps...

Once this is a complete/ working game, PLEASE consider a limited run of machines or having someone make them from your prototype!!!
Screw batman 66 and other titles rumored to be on the list of soon to be released machines.
This machine looks amazing!

Where do I send my money?
Ohh, and how much ?

Somebody HAS to make these!

That center ramp is one of the coolest things I've seen.

sorry guys, didn't want to take away from my Minion friends. Lots happening programming wise and we're pushing the boundaries of MPF every day, often breaking it or requiring additional features. anyway here's a vid.

Amazing work...

I'd love to see that video re-shot with the table at 6.5° -- to best evaluate the whitewood -- to me it's hard to determine how the ball will come out of a few of the problem areas:

* right scoop -- ball keeps hopping over the mini flipper -- maybe it won't (as much) at 6.5°
* left orbit -- ball dink donks a bit there, but not a big deal
* return exit angle of the inner horseshoe shot -- comes awefully close to sdtm -- I think with a steeper pitch it's closer to right flipper

-mof

#372 6 years ago

Questions:

* What is the main purpose to the mini flipper? What shots? Feels a little bit appendix-like aka "the hobbit"
* Any thoughts to a more narrow williams flipper gap instead of the Gottlieb-sized gap? (If not, any thought to a center post?)
* What is the purpose to the raised red thing? Is it fully functional?
* Why are there green lights flashing near the flippers? What shots or modes to they represent. They feel like they are "misleading" right now
* Is there any room for a spinner? (please)

Props to:

* two banks of drops
* that RED thing !
* LCD display
* use of inner orbits / horseshoes
* innovative skill shot

It's bouncing off the shooter lane gate. It looks worse than it is and actually works well.

* left orbit -- ball dink donks a bit there, but not a big deal
Yeah, i had John redesign the lanes and it's a lot better than it was.

* return exit angle of the inner horseshoe shot -- comes awefully close to sdtm -- I think with a steeper pitch it's closer to right flipper
You can't see it but there's a magnet ball save for this. We are going to add a "keeper gate" to keep it against the rail and prevent SDTM

You absolutley need it when the centre ramp is raised as otherwise half the shots are blocked.

* Any thoughts to a more narrow williams flipper gap instead of the Gottlieb-sized gap? (If not, any thought to a center post?)
It's by John Trudeau. AKA the Trudeau flipper gap (as per ghostbusters)

* What is the purpose to the raised red thing? Is it fully functional?
that is the centre ramp, it is fully functional.

* Why are there green lights flashing near the flippers? What shots or modes to they represent. They feel like they are "misleading" right now
Without Art it's fairly hard but they represent the invisible force progress (centre magnet)

* Is there any room for a spinner? (please)
Spinner's on the left, just below robby )

Many thanks, this is virtually all custom. even the drops use custom boards.

Seems to be progressing nicely!
Well done!

Haven't been on here for quite a while and this is still one of my all time favorite projects. Looks great and I can't wait to see more of it.

#379 6 years ago

Currently waiting on some MPF help. I ran into a problem with performance which is possibly due to a leak in the slides. I use a LOT of slides and video.
when that's fixed we'll progress.

#380 6 years ago

Bookmarked.

Love the movie, and the pin idea!

As I've been accused of doing nothing on this for 6 months... (nearer 2 thanks to Dialed In!). I made a start on the mini wizard mode. you get this for collecting all the rounds. It's a game within a game where you get to play a classic machine. Here it's playing the start of Flash Gordon, it will eventually have 4 games chosen for you at random. Genesis, Star Trek, Flash Gordon and Barbarella. The last one being another custom game (a custom game in a custom game!)

#382 6 years ago

Ok...enough fooling around...please get this game into production!

#383 6 years ago

Not to be mean, but this game should probably not be called "John Trudeau's Forbidden Planet" when it's done. That phrase takes on a whole different meaning these days than when this thread started...

I didn't start the thread and I can't change the thread name.

Is there an ETA? a year? 2 years?

#386 6 years ago

Spooky? Can they produce this as followup to the TNA release? This looks like a really good game

#387 6 years ago

They've been working on it for 6 years now so it may not be soon. What's been done so far looks phenomenal though.

Great thread title! Lmao in before the lock.

#389 6 years ago

What is that supposed to mean? Why is there an issue with the Thread name? Either way, great looking project.

#391 6 years ago

Well that sure puts a damper on us ever seeing that Hello Kitty pinball machine, now doesn't it?

#392 6 years ago

Ironic? Not so much, but it is unfortunate. Clearly nobody is supporting that kind of garbage on this thread. I think too many people assume everybody on here is up on all the pinball related news and that's just not the case.
I knew nothing of this child porn arrest and have nothing but disgust for Trudeau. I still think this is a great project and look forward to seeing more progress.

#393 6 years ago

Seeing this for the first time. It's looking awesome Though I did think this was as different sort of thread with the title (as I still see the PinballNews.com updates).

#394 6 years ago

Epotech any chance of this machine making it across the pond to a pinball show on the east coast like Allentown or York?

every chance. It's been made to allow easy changing of voltages for this very purpose. I need it to be more reliable first, MPF (which it runs on) is still essentially alpha software and we do run into some problems both bugs and also we really push the envelope of what it will do. Know of any other game that demagnetizes the balls as they enter the trough?

Can't wait to play this machine as Forbidden Planet is my favorite science-fiction film. (I'll be at Allentown)
