"Social media" platforms. Your state is full of them and none of them like monkies either.

Real Time last week had a part of his interview with a professor about how and why the next generation is easily hurt/offended and aren't prepared to deal with counter-opinions. Pretty interesting.

I bet and I'll have to look it up. People talk so much crap about "millennials" and how effed up they are. Well it's starts with the parents, and those parents have disposable income that they can spend on pins, and those millenial parents are here too.

monkees

Not sure what platforms you get your misinformation from, but I'm confident that most people in WA state appreciate real monkees. Most of us actually give a shit about the environment and preserving the natural rain forest and jungle habitats where they live in the wild too.

Imagine that.

Still Oktoberfest thread?
Rosh, the game is so going into production soon, as Barry mentioned here that Houdini is going to let the place for Oktoberfest on production line, when do you plan to communicate about the final product and all changes you do (artwork, code, music..)?
Thanks

There are a few changes being evaluated (and I'm not talking about the monkey business) from layout to art to voices, etc. Some of these were things we had identified before expo, but wanted to see if there were really a problem or not, some we felt were not an issue, some we felt we needed to take a look at. Can't say we had any real surprises as far as some thing with the layout that was an issue, etc. Joe is trying out a few things and we will then decide what changes need to be made. I have little doubt there were be some changes, just like we had with Houdini. There is always the possibility that it will move production out a couple of weeks, and if so, then it is possible some more Houdini's may get made in the meantime. There is also a window of time needed to convert the line over. Until we move to the larger facility space is a real premium, which makes a lot of this more challenging than it should be, and why we can't be running two games at once, at least for now.

The team behind the code (Ferret and I), music and sound (Matt Kern), Art (jeff Busch) and animations (Ish Raneses) are cranking away so that when games ship the code and the assets are where they need to be to provide the desired experience.

I'm sure we will start to share things as we work through them and get closer to production.

If there is one thing we have been over the last week or so, is no matter what we do, what changes we make, not everyone will be happy, but that is no surprise when it comes to pinball. But I am pretty pleased where we are and where we are heading.

#1512 5 years ago

Yes, impossible to please everyone.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your progress.

Reposting this from the doomed PinballSTAR thread...

Whew... enough monkey talk, at least for me. Since a few people asked about it, let's talk MagNab (which does NOT refer to any inappropriate touching of, or by, magpies).

There are four magnets in Oktoberfest. One each is located on either side mid-playfield, near the OKTOBER and FEST target banks. Players can't control these magnets; they're there to add some fun chaos to the game. (And sometimes they can help you -- I've watched the OKTOBER magnet happily play ping-pong with those targets, rapidly accumulating several target hits on the player's behalf. You get extra points for this!)

Then there are two other magnets: one located above the TAP lanes at the top-right of the playfield, and one located above the upper-right flipper in the right orbit. These ARE player controllable, using the extra right-side button... that's what we call MagNab. You earn MagNabs by shooting the lit "MagNab" shot, which alternates between the right ramp and the captive ball. (Pro tip: one of the steins awards an extra MagNab when you shoot the lit MagNab shot... and like all steins, you can stack their powers.) Hitting the MagNab button energizes both the right orbit and TAP lane magnets for a couple seconds. Both magnet choices are useful: the right orbit one gives you a nice feed to the UR flipper, which has several important shots including the upper ramp (beer barrel lock) and the bartender (advance toward or collect a stein)... the TAP lanes advance PLAYFIELD X. (Pro tip: one of the steins gives an extra advance to Playfield X when you complete the TAP lanes... and did I mention, like all steins, you can stack their powers.) Obviously, this gives some interesting choices about where and when to use your MagNabs.

There are also occasional automatic MagNabs... an inlane -> opposing orbit combo will usually catch the ball at the TAP lanes, and every X pop bumpers does an auto nab at the UR flipper when the ball exits the pops to the right orbit.

We can't wait for everyone to play and learn Oktoberfest!

Well, I don’t know if I participated to this tempête de merde when I criticize this metal music in Oktoberfest . I try to be fair and constructive when I say I don’t like or I do like.

All this monkey talk brought back a memory.
My mother brought me to see Indiana Jones and the temple of doom when it came out, we were eating super buttery popcorn watching the movie. Then it came time for monkey brains desert and we both looked at each other and put the popcorn away. Stomach was slightly funny.

Re artwork, i like the composition and what is on it, however it needs a clean up/ unified style. I think an artist could redraw (not redesign) the entire thing. Someone like this would be great

I see Oktoberfest comes with a subwoofer in cabinet. Nice addition for game 2!
Will it include a Knocker as well? The physical kind, not the art work kind.

I consider Octoberfest to be API's 15th machine. Reasoning:

1. This is Joe Balcer's 15th design

2. API is Joe Balcer

The influx of stupid comments on Pinside has hit an all time high recently but this might be going for the top spot. Even with your reasoning I don’t see how you can consider this to be APs 15th design/game, Joe’s? yeah okay but not AP.

The games listed where with SEGA/Data East and JJP, yeah they are all pinball manufacturers like AP but I’d take a stab in the dark that there internal processes are likely very different for starters.

And Joe isn’t credited as the designer of High Roller Casino & Richie Rich, so technically it’s only APs 13th design

That would be quite an accomplishment given what you read on Pinside. "A post that will live on in infamy."

A forum is for sharing thoughts. I was just offering an observation that may have been news to some readers here. But flaming others is the norm here, sigh.

#1541 5 years ago

Perhaps wording it as...the design team at API has over 20 years’ experience designing commercial pinball machines would be better.

Don’t get me wrong I was being a little tongue in cheek with you regarding the recent craziness pinside has broke out in

But genuinely I don’t see how you can call this game APs 15th, when processes and especially resources likely differ greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I mean take this design to any of the other manufacturers, would the same game even be produced say at Stern? I doubt it, maybe at LE trim but I still doubt it would come this packed. Could spooky even build a game this complex? Would JJP get it out this quick from reveal to release?

I think saying it’s APs 13th (15th) game doesn’t give them the credit they deserve, this is their second game, on first glance it’s more packed than a Stern, it’s more complex than a Spooky title and AP have got game #2 out faster than JJP managed, they are doing some incredible things that deserve full credit imo.

No doubt Joe having extensive experience in the industry is a huge thing, especially having been at JJP when the started. But this would be like saying WoZ was JJPs 10th game (or whatever it would be), just a silly thing to say, but if people did not say ridiculous things, we would have a lot less to talk about. Setting that aside, a large chunk of the team is new or relatively new to the industry. It is one of the things that makes AP unique, although each of the companies is unique, each has its own style, its own approach to how it does things. Okay, need to get back to work on the 'Stein Race' tent mode.

That is where I was coming from. We can argue #space jam is / #Ritchie Rich isn't but there is some history there that I wanted to point out.

If nothing else maybe we can set IPDB.COM straight, but you guys can fight about that too ( - :

Quoted from BarryJ:

The art displayed on the proto games are not the final art work... The art on OKF will evolve before the final production version. The alternative art package will be more of an adult theme and therefore an option to the standard art package. This option is still in a infancy mode and may never come to fruition.

If you're still in the process of changing some of the artwork, may I suggest replacing the "Chelsea Clinton" face on the contortionist girl with something else?
