I then cleaned the old grease out (although there wasn't much in there) and then I added more grease. I made sure to move the gears back and forth to really work the grease in.

Same here. When I had mine, I was able to open it up (4 screws), cleaned the old grease out and added some more. It made a HUGE difference and it sounded like a new machine. One gearbox was louder than the other, but I did both anyways.
