Just glad you’re playing

Me too Derek, me too...!

Slightly less crappy score before I hit the hay last night.

Still about a million shy of my best score. First game I got all 5 shots for fountain of youth wizard mode. Immediately drained after I hit last shot so still don’t know p2. Won I think 34 souls on liars dice. Think that’s how I got 79 characters collected. Had 2nd wiz mode qualified but did not get to start it. Pretty solid game overall. 3 balls, no special reward, extra ball at 1.5 million (ya I know I play too much)

Thanks zaphX for starting and running the event. It was a great idea and fun to participate! I'm sure it took a lot of time to put together all this data.

Also, thanks for the ideas on getting my auto launcher working. I plan to share info and some images of the before and after on the trouble shooting thread.

#57 4 years ago

Fun. I played a few games yesterday, but the pin gods were not on my side. I can usually throw up a few mill+ scores, but wasn't having it that day.

I'm up for doing this again.

#58 4 years ago

Ugh, I had a super busy weekend and didn't get to play at all. Hope you do this again!

#59 4 years ago

Great innitiative!

What about you select a character Derek , that we all play , and you get one shot at it. Like a real tournament , real pressure , and saves you a lot of administration

So be honest, get in the flow , and say to yourself , “ this is the game” , before you launch your first ball and post what you get , regardless .

We all have good & bad games, but some dont have time to fill 48 hrs with pinball , might even the competition a little

Thanks again!

Woops that would be Norrington could have swore it had his name on the one picture...guess not. Was fun we should do it again but with more specific goals. Like do a week long one for who can collect the most gold in a game or highest score with a particular champ.

Next time!

Any high gold totals out there?

Was playing this with epotech last week.

He was playing as Gibbs (we only play random select character games). Hit 8 upper loops in a row, then gold targets, it spawned 350/360 gold. Finished with 383 gold in total.

This may well become my default strategy now.
Hit consecutive loops into gold targets to spawn enough to light Tortuga.

What does additional gold get you? I believe it was 50 to light tortuga multiball? Then what?

First Tortuga is 50, then 100, then 150/200? So the ability to get massive amounts of gold is required later on.

The amount of gold taken in Tortuga also determines the jackpot values.

Gold is also a factor in bonus calculations (default 25pts per gold, but can go as high as 100 pts per gold, or as low as 10pts per gold depending on character played)

There are also 2 gold related highscores - 1 for most earned, and 1 for most cashed in.

Gold is definitely a valuable commodity worth chasing.

Too much gold.. 8 loops .. I wish !

Don’t know why, but 4 loops has always been the max on my game. Magnet grabs it and thus the loop champ has been on 5 since day one but I am sure I have the skill to beat 5 if it would let me

I wish I knew what was going on here. I know I get fucked on the skill shot if On Stranger Tides is lit and try to loop. But I've also had the magnet grab (or something happen to knock it into the BP) after some random number of loops. I don't *think* that is part of gameplay, but maybe someone with more knowledge can answer. It's a bit annoying when you're going for skill shot or gold and you just get interrupted.

Ooooh boy... stuff I don't have to worry about now is the gist of this post

I'm at about the "get 50 so I can get tortuga multiball" and that's about it. Good to know about the additional needs.

Yikes. My GC to 8th score range from 2.4mill to 1mill and those games felt great.

Well thanks much @wesman, always fantastic to meet folks and chat a bit. Appreciate the kind words, though I'm sure I'm well behind many others in my game play lol

My JJPOTC gameplay streams are almost always done via random character select as it just shows what a great job the team has done (and continues to do) with balancing and that Henry Turner game was no exception.

JJPOTC stands alone as my favorite pin ever...it's the only game I've ever played I don't think I'd ever get tired of playing.

So, what are people using to record this stuff? I guess I could search, but why not hijack this thread

Seems like you are using a DVI/VGA output from the PC (I think there is a spare DVI) to get the screen(s) and some sort of overhead cam (just a webcam?) to get the playfield. I'm not really interested in doing this (there is NOTHING to watch of my playing) but as a techie I am interested. Some sort of software to combine them (like wirecast or something)?

So, what are people using to record this stuff? I guess I could search, but why not hijack this thread
Seems like you are using a DVI/VGA output from the PC (I think there is a spare DVI) to get the screen(s) and some sort of overhead cam (just a webcam?) to get the playfield. I'm not really interested in doing this (there is NOTHING to watch of my playing) but as a techie I am interested. Some sort of software to combine them (like wirecast or something)?

There are whole threads on streaming pinball I'm sure, but I'm not much of a Pinsider so I wouldn't know where to point you for that . That aside, most people streaming a one-game pinball setup are doing it via Twitch with something the likes of 3 cameras (playfield, player, display) and a microphone or 2 cameras, a microphone, an audio mixer, and a capture card fed via DVI splitter (on POTC for example) to direct capture the display. These sources go through a program like Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) or XSplit to capture all of that and bring it together. Tournament streaming is a whole different ball of wax...

That's as simple as I can put it, but it's totally easy and cheap (spoiler, it's neither of those lol).

HAHAH... yeah, as you started listing the tech used I was thinking that wasn't going to be cheap or easy. Cool to know, that's about as much as I care about it Ah yes, OBS.. I think that is what powers Wirecast.

harryhoudini For my PotC streaming I have a DVI -> Hdmi adaptor coming out of the PC and feed that into an AverMedia Gamer Portable 2 Plus to capture the video feed to my PC, and then pass through the Aver back to Hdmi -> DVI to keep the monitor alive while I play. Interestingly enough there is an unused HDMI port on the PC in the backbox, but when attempting to use that instead of branching off the DVI the compass monitor no longer had any video. Additionally just splitting the DVI feed didn't work for me either. Pretty sure I didn't use a powered splitter though so that may make a difference. I have not tried to capture the vga port yet which I'm assuming is what controls the compass monitor but I'm debating on trying that out at some point.

As for the rest of the setup I'm using some Sony Handicams on stands to setup the playfield, face cam, and any other cam I might use for any particular game. Blue snowball mic for voice and game noise (aver can capture game audio though if that is preferred). And then I feed all of that into Streamlabs OBS to setup overlay, chat, alerts, etc.

When I started getting this all setup and working I used Dead Flip's guide as a starting point and that worked well for me.
